From Mr Bayley - NO buffet

Maybe the end of food hogs that eat 12 pounds of food and eat 6 ounces, the cost saving could be huge.

Did they ever cause you not be able to have something to eat that you wanted?

It really seems that the buffet lovers here are just worried not to get enough calories anymore, don't worry a cruisehip will never run out of food.

I don’t appreciate the judgment.  You need not concern yourself with how much food I consume.

I am for the most part out of patience with MDR served meals that takes 1.5 - 2 hours.  When eating alone, it is an unwanted waste of my vacation time.

it will prevent you from eating to much of it or from food wasting by having to much on the plate and not being able to finish it.

I don't need anyone managing what I eat. What you or others eat is no concern of mine. It's called liberty and that's why my ancestors moved to the new world.

While we seldom eat at the windjammer except when we have to for breakfast, it is convenient and readily available.  The hot dogs were better than the specialty hot dog place on Oasis.  The reason we did not eat there is because it was a buffet and all it entails.  As hard as the staff works on keeping it refilled and appealing, the volume of passengers using it doesn’t lend itself to a sanitary, appealing, fully stocked option.  The photo upthread of the “make your own caesar salad”. station kind of says it all.

Good.  The buffet is disgusting and we never use it anyway.

Another egotistical self centered cruiser only concerned with their preferences.

Just because you do not frequent a place you should not be happy if it goes away.  I will never utilize the rock wall or the flow rider, but I would not be in a state of euphoria if they went away.

You cant socially distance on a holiday....lets get that straight.

People go away to socialise, for one....to meet new people. Dance, chat, play games....have fun. You cant do that and socially distance.

As for no Buffets.....
No Buffet = No cruising for us.

There is absolutely no reason to remove Buffets from cruises.

Just think.......with no more Buffets.....all those people will now eat in the MDRs....shorts, bad manners.....greed.

MDRs will never be the same again!

Be careful what you wish for!

I hope you right. In your opinion, how will they manage this?

I preface this with these are only my musings, and nothing I have read anywhere from RC. The CK/SL, and Diamond Club all are venues that make social distancing a great challenge. Even when we sailed on Harmony, at half capacity after Hurricane Dorian, the SL/CK was still busy.

Since social distancing will be a must for the foreseeable future I suspect JS will be removed for dinner privileges, which lowers the volume a bit. If the ship sails at half capacity, I also see half the suites being empty.  It will effect RC revenue but I don’t see them being discounted for sale like in the past.

The final aspect of regular overcrowding in the SL/CK comes down to Pinnacles which does vary by sailing.  I envision them losing access for a while but getting the following instead. They could have breakfast and lunch offered in Chops, be limited for dinners in CK if there are many on board, and free drinks (equal to those served for free) on ships that have a CK/SL.  Perhaps once there are enough on board they get to take over Dazzles/Music Club for their evening gathering spot. If there are not tables open for dinner in the CK perhaps they get discounted specialty dinning that night.

An extreme thought, the Diamond Lounge becomes the Pinnacle lounge. Diamonds get drink vouchers (maybe 6?) to use all day and night.  When there are too many Pinnacles on board they get moved another location. The DL it crammed full on a normal night pre COVID, so something need to change regarding it. That’s a whole topic on its own.

As I said these are all my musings which are not meant to offended anyone.  I’m just thinking about logistics.  It could very well be a half empty ship, but some venues will still have issues with social distancing.

My crystal ball predicts some changes will happen.  It also says we will have to wait and see what they are.

Hey, I just realized. No windjammer = shorts allowed in the MDR. Hooray!

I wonder if they knew there used to be a buffet as well in the MDR, for breakfast and lunch. The horror, the horror.

Thanks. Similar thoughts regarding the SL/CK.

Pinnacles don’t get unlimited beer/wine on ships outside of Oasis Class (don’t know Quantum Class). Suites don’t either but Suites tend to be more expensive on Oasis Class for the extra amenities.

Likely  there will be less Pinnacle’s by the time we go back to cruising. No new ones that’s for sure. 😇

I thought I clarified, but I was going speaking of the ships with a CK/SL combo regarding meals and “all day” drinking. Other ships classes don’t offer the same level of perks, so I kept them out of the mix about when talking about it.  Diamond Lounges, on all ships, will have an issue, and the same for stand alone SL at happy hour.

Social distancing will bring about logistical changes to the C&A program, says my crystal ball, for the short term and possibly the long haul as well.

Just got this update on the iphone. Royal may no longer have a buffet. That is from Royal Caribbean. The key word is maybe. I would think that a cafeteria style would work just fine. 6ft apart while in line. Works for me. Tables set apart.

I agree with you but.....  lol

Suites come at a premium price on Oasis Class as compared to the ships without SL/CK. More amenities are offered to Suites.

I don’t think P’s in cabins other than those in Suites, pay the premium required of Suites, on Oasis Class.

My two and a half cents

Suites on classes other than Oasis and Quantum do come at a premium, just not as steep. It is somewhat comparable up until an OS, at a prorated price, but not above that category.  Not to mention other classes do not get the same added perks that Oasis and Quantum class get.
