Is there additional information about Princess restarting their cruise schedule?

I wonder if the cruise lines will implement “Safety Plans” similar to what the large resorts in Las Vegas are implementing. Vegas casino resorts plan to reopen June 4, 2020. It will be interesting to see how things go.

The revenue in the Macau casinos seem to be down 95% for the first 10 days in May compared to the same time last year, even though they have been open during that time. Macau hasn't has a reported COVID-19 case in over 30 days. However there are still travel restrictions on people from outside Macau traveling there.

Will be interesting how it goes in the Vegas casinos.

Interesting.  One good thing, Princess has a leg up on other cruise lines with their hands-free Medallion. I bet others will soon copy them.

After the 2008 recession locals were the ones that helped LV casinos rejuvenate their businesses and LV casinos are betting on that again....plus a lot of Californians.  It should be mentioned that not all LV casinos are opening on the Strip until their companies have successfully launched a few.

We have family who lives in LV and visit there often so we have been following what will happening there pretty closely.

Casinos are gong too great lengths to make sure they have successful openings.  The will be really controlled from the time they allow patrons to enter until the time they leave.  Everyone will be monitored by thermal imaging.  LV has always been great at being flexible and innovative when times change and reinventing itself.

I am sure people will follow their rules or else.  I would not want to mess with casino security of the LV police authorities.  They have seen and heard it all and do not tolerate illegal activities of any kind.

On a cruise ship I doubt what little security they have will back up what they ask passengers to do with the threat of arrest.

Royal Caribbean has 'wow bands'.

I believe these predated the princess medallion.

Regardless, I don't think princess is ahead of the competition.

Rather, I think 'Princess' is the name most people associate with cruise line virus.

In my opinion, not until there is a vaccine. There is just no way to social distance on a cruise.

Still waiting for vaccine for SARS 1 and MERS and Aids. There might never be a vaccine. I don't think people should be pinning everything thing on a vaccine.

I think Australia might begin sooner than you think...many cruises don't need international travelers ...with all ports in Australia and all Australians on board, why wouldn't that work?...just sayin'...

I don't think so. Australia as not been through winter. Wouldn't surprise me if they say no cruising until 2021.

While I would not hold myself to be an expert, I have spent more then 1200 days cruising on over 75 different ships...so do have a little knowledge of being on ships, both mass market (i.e. Princess) and ultra luxury.  Social distancing on mass market ships is a near impossibility primarily because of the design of ships.   Just consider the elevator situation for starters.  Princess theaters are designed somewhat smaller then many of their competitors which often has the theaters full or near full.  If they were to limit folks to every other seat it would take 5-6 shows to give everyone a chance to see a particular show.   Many of the princess Lidos are designed with minimal serving stations which are crammed into relatively tight areas.  The new Royal Class does have a much nicer open design (which would help support some social distancing) but the seating it too limited.  Deck chairs/loungers are located within inches of each other.  The only way to improve that situation would be to sale the ship's about half full which would mean losing money on each sailing....so that is not going to happen.   And lets not forget the bars/lounges.  The business model for mass market ships is to maximize onboard revenue....part of which comes from booze.  Maintaining social distancing in bars/lounges would be very difficult to impossible.

The cruise lines have tried all kinds of mitigation measures to minimize the risk or Norovirus and yet, Noro was still relatively common on ships.  Like COVID-19, these bugs are brought aboard by passengers/crew and there is no effective way to guarantee that nobody is carrying those bugs.

What can Princess do?  I have no solution.  Even quarantining passengers to their cabins on the Diamond Princess did not stop the spread of COVID-19.  There are apparently several ongoing studies trying to determine how COVID-19 kept spreading on the Diamond Princess and we have read a few theories.  But they are just that....theories.   They will likely stat cruising again with only some theories on how to mitigate COVID-19.  But cases are still going to happen on some ships.  What then?

Excellent and informative post...thanks!

However don’t shut the rest of the world down when people want to get on and start working. The alternative would be subject millions of people to economic hardship and maybe ruin that they would take years to recover from.

Yes, the "elderly" and those with some pre-existing conditions are more likely to be seriously affected and will pass away in greater numbers than those who are younger and healthier.

But people of all ages do catch the virus, are seriously affected and do pass away, just in lesser numbers. Whether it is a child dying from an over-reactive immune system or someone in their 20s from a stroke caused by the virus or someone in their 30s who must be put on a respirator and does not survive, it is still a tragic death that might have been prevented by not trying to get "back to normal" too fast.

So the question is, how many people are we willing to sacrifice to get the economy going again quickly? Hopefully, it will not be anyone close to you or even yourself.

Exactly right.

Over here, we are down to a handful of cases per day. On May 19, the chain stores and malls reopened. Very light traffic despite the huge discounts. Even last Saturday. Where is everyone, wondered I?

IMO, the retail recession will continue for a while. Particularly for the places where community transmission is rampant. The tourism and retail landscape will be permanently changed by covid.

Not good for cruising in the western hemisphere where 57k new cases a day (WHO sitrep May 25). That's 57% of the global daily total, and rising.

Of course, Arnold Donald has to  be brave. He described covid19 as a 'once in a generation' event. How cruising 'live in the hearts of millions'. From what I read on the forums, large numbers of regular cruisers are choosing life over experience.

It's a matter of economics. The low low fares will cover the operating costs of a reduced-capacity cruise (F&B, fuel and wages). But, you can't expect much more.

Younger people will be the main clientele. Not sure how they will like the distancing and mask requirements. Not sure how we would like the noise etc.

Ultimately, physical distancing, testing and the occasional quarantine means the end of affordable and casual travel...

“The era of affordable travel will come to an end,” IATA’s director general and CEO Alexandre de Juniac said last week."

No but Arnold Donald seemed pretty upbeat in this interview this morning:

It bumped the stock price.

Now, we just have to hope he isn't another elon musk...

I stumbled over this:

"Buy Carnival Stock before It Makes Another Big Move"

I assume they mean a big move UP!

I saw your post so went to the Princess site and it let me check pricing for Nov 28 Enchantment cruise.  It even offered a courtesy hold until May 30.  Give it another try.
