Technically 'threads' and not Tweets (Twitter might get in a snit) but I'd think the Mods could monitor which ones are actually being viewed and how often and possibly un-pin some that haven't been visited in a while.

I don't really think there are too many but I agree with Wendy that we don't really have room for more...

Sorry, yes, 'autocorrect' got me.  Threads is what I meant.  They are all helpful in their way, even if there aren't new posts for a while.

Oh no, I was the one at fault here. You were quoting off my error. My apologies, Ms Wendy.

And as to the pinned thread about posting hints, a lot of those were based on some earlier version of the software, so it really should be cut loose and left to float away into the Cruise Critic ether.

Yes, you're probably right, hadn't thought about that.

I also agree with picking out two or three things and sticking to them.  That might mean taking a "Rome on Your Own"-type excursion, where they drop you off and pick you up.  You could spend the whole day doing the Palatine Hill, Forum and Colosseum, for instance.  Or the whole day at the Vatican. Or do the "touristy" stuff like the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps. Think about your interests--art, history, antiquities, shopping, grandeur, ...

We have been in Rome several times but never managed to get into the Colosseum. We are booked for a cruise in August 2022 now and have booked the Colosseum this time early enough to manage to get a tour inside. Taking the train from Civitavecchia, the connecting metro will get us straight to the Colosseum. Watch out most cruise-tours will have small print saying you will only get into the Colosseum if it isn't too busy - and you can count on it being too busy.

Has anyone had any experience flying Emirates Business Class? Considering giving them a try....

Yes we have.  It's a lovely experience.  We flew London to the Maldives on a 380.  The seats are flat beds. Stewards put a mattress down and make your bed when you're ready to sleep.  There's a bar in the back of business class where you can have a cocktail or tea and scones (London route) with others, and a big screen if there's a game to watch. The cuisine is excellent and plentiful.  Over 100 channels on your large screen (15-17 inches??) TV, and alcohol is top shelf as well as wines.  If you layover in Dubai the lounge is phenomenal. Best we've ever been in.  It's truly a wonderful experience. Excellent service. You're in for a treat. Enjoy.

FYI, flights on a 777 are similar but the plane makes a difference. Theres no bar on 777 but the rest remains the same. If you have miles upgrade to first class and you'll experience the ultimate, especially if you layover in Dubai!  First class passengers enjoy Dom Perinon upon entering plane and a shower on board if you're so inclined.  First class passengers also receive a massage at the first class lounge in Dubai (make sure you reserve a spot though), and the lounge is only for first class passengers. Both lounges in Dubai have direst access to your gate so you may stay and enjoy the (huge) lounge until just before flight departs.

Emirates has finally upgraded their angled business seats in the 777s to a lie flat configuration. The 777s still have drawbacks imo, like lack of privacy. Check the equipment; and be aware you could be put on something else at the last minute.

We have had better flights and service on Qatar and like the Doha airport better. When a choice is available, we would choose Qatar over Emirates.

This is a lists of books and series I have maintained for several years.  Periodically someone will request it or give suggestions and I post it again on CC.  It has been requested to be posted as a thread and in the Watercooler so I am doing both.  I have hesitated to post it previously for fear of not being able to maintain new suggestions, but will give it a try.

if you have suggestions, please use @GeorgiaPeach51 so I will receive a notification and will know to update it.  Many books and series listed are mysteries, but not all. So feel free to suggest anything you enjoy, and we will all give this a try!  This is for all of us who love to read and have great anxiety when we get to the end of a series with no idea what to read next!  🥰

@GeorgiaPeach51 I loved the Century Series by Ken Follett and was utterly bereft when I finished it. The history lesson was better than any I had at school!

Can I suggest:

  • The Clifton Chronicles series by Jeffrey Archer - several parallels with above mentioned Ken Follett series .
  • The Nathan McBride series by Andrew Petersen (shades of David Baldacci).
  • John Milton series by Mark Dawson, fairly easy read rogue/off grid MI6 agent but quite stark - there are LOADS of them, some, predictably, are better than others.
  • Matthew Shardlake Mysteries by CJ Sansom (historical fiction time of Henry VIII)
  • Marc Dane series by James Swallow
