What do you miss the most by not cruising?

I miss the solarium.  One of our favorite places on the ship during the day!

I think I miss the anticipation of a cruise most of all.  I just hope that my cruise clothes will still be in style by the time we next set sail...

Got my refund the other day...so maybe I can buy new...

I'm not worried about the style, I just hope they still fit.  😁

Easy fix... use money saved from refunds to get a cleaning service, stop making beds,  and do take out or eat out when things open up. Grill outdoors if you can so you  can share the cooking chore. I personally don't cook,  and we share doing laundry tasks.

That's not a bad idea. Thank you!

I miss the time my wife & I spend together, when we are in the solarium holding hands in our deck chairs, looking at her as she gets ready for dinner, seeing her smile when we walk around the deck. We had a cruise planned for late June to celebrate our 63rd annv. now I have to find somewhere else to hold this lady & not seem out of place.

I also miss planning my cruises. I miss the excitement of embarkation day. I miss getting on the ship and then not having to make any decisions except for what fun, effortless thing we want to do next. I miss not having to cook, clean, and walk the dog (even though I love and miss the dog when I'm on a cruise). I miss being at sea, on the water. I miss waking up early on port days to watch the ship come into the harbor. I miss watching people go crazy over "flash sales" of silly junk (what fun!). I miss walking by the Park West art gallery and marveling at the prices for such incredibly bad art (especially compared to the high-quality art by well-known contemporary artists that Celebrity owns and is displayed on the Solstice-class ships). I especially miss Cafe al Bacio--the best coffee and service anywhere. I miss looking at all the food in the buffet and figuring out what I want to eat--even if I'm disappointed by half of it. Who cares? We're on a cruise! (I do not miss the food in the main dining room or the specialty restaurants. We are eating much better food at home!)

Having someone else prepare, serve and clean up after me for every meal, and being able to walk up to a bar and order whatever I want, whenever I want.

Although my husband and I both enjoy cooking (and are quite good at it, if I do say so myself) and have a fully stocked home pub, having several weeks a year where we just request and are served wonderful meals and drinks with no effort on our part is heavenly!

63 years is awesome!   I also feel very fortunate in my marriage.  I won't make 63 but hope to celebrate many more.

I miss the ports.  We cruise for travel, not the ship.

We do enjoy socializing with friends at Elite happy hour and dining in the MDR later.

I miss meeting new people and being pampered by Celebrity's wonderful crew.  I miss seeing new ports and marking another country off of our bucket list!

Agree about the anticipation of the cruise and the clothes being in style by the next cruise!

I guess one can look at "cruises missed" in a positive way, especially if you are saving money from those missed cruises.  Anyway, my travel account has really grown with all the deposits and money returned from cruises not taken due to Covid.  My husband keeps laughing at me, saying that it is time for a new car too, but since I am not driving as much, and love my car, my travel account will keep growing by leaps and bounds, as we are virtually spending very little nowadays. However, in all honesty, I would much rather be cruising, as would most of us...we certainly can't take it with us!

Ditto what Miched said!

Not missing a damn thing about cruising, and happy to have our $4k back from our canceled cruise. Whew....

But you must miss it at least a little... otherwise you wouldn't be hanging out on a cruise discussion board.

we are also spending so little. I don't remember when we had such low credit card statement!

I miss the overall cruise experience on a " floating resort " .

The great food, the excellent service, the warm weather ( haven't seen that mentioned yet )  , meeting people from all over the world , and , that guy selling " real " Rolex watches for $125 in Cartegena .

I agree with many that the anticipation of an upcoming cruise is powerful.  We also like the 2-3 pre cruise days before boarding.  The day of boarding is special as we get to our cabin, unpack and explore.  I spend weeks practicing blackjack online until I'm playing perfect blackjack.  I look forward to the evenings playing in the casino and hope this will be the cruise I win big.  It has never happened but I dream anyway.  Unfortunately Celebrity's casino crowd has diminshed over the years and I like a full blackjack table.

I stopped playing black jack on ships long ago.

1- The minimum bet on our last cruise was $15 .

2- Too many people playing black jack on ships don't know how to play the odds. Dealer shows a 6, player has 14 and takes another card-- up comes a King. Happens all the time.

3- The Dealers usually look bored and are unfriendly.

I guess you enjoy reading about cruising on this forum though? LOL

T

I occasionally read the forum to keep up for the latest cruise news to see if anything will affect the cruises that I have booked.

i have lifted and shifted a cruise for this Dec as I am not ready to cruise again.   I have 5 more cruises booked into Feb 2022 and really don’t see any more cruises after that.

i am enjoying life at home and see more value in traveling around the USA and Canada by car doing road trips, and visiting friends and relatives.

we have done a few road trips the last few years and found them to be a better value with more options.

Our cruises have averaged form $500 to $600/day.   We can get a nice hotel, eat at a fine restaurant, have some nice drinks for less, plus many other things that aren’t available on a cruise.    We can be in a city as long as we want, cancel reservations a day before with no penalty, and etc.

Happy cruising 🌊🚢🇺🇸🌅
