did Royal do away with late main DR seating?

it may be that late has all been pre-booked already. Try calling and see if you can at least waitlist.

Agree. We always do late dining. I can't imagine they would do away with it. We've had to do waitlist many times so it actually may be more popular than early seating.

It might be that they just do not want to duplicate the information for menus as they are the same at all traditional dining rooms.

The dinner menu doesn't change, regardless of the time you go to the MDR.  

And as far as I know, you can't change your dining choice from the app -- just from calling (or having your TA do it).

I eat dinner at home at 4:15 so I like early dinner on a cruise.

I also like early dinner because you can finish dinner then catch the 7: 00 show and it's  still early to do whatever you wish.

It may just depend on what each MDR on your ship actually serves.

 

For example, on my Harmony sailing the app shows the American Icon Grill menus for early and my time but not late, whereas the Silk and the Grande show early and main but not my time.

You need to seatings in addition to My Time for capacity reasons. The timings for early and late just can vary on different cruises.

I can see this actually going the other way, and a third seating being introduced to enable social distancing around the tables.
