We do need a vaccine, but if they come out with something by the end of the year I wouldn’t get it. Way too soon to trust it. Think of how long other vaccines have taken. Again there is still too much they don’t know about this virus and so much conflicting information, would you really be first in line?

Yes, I absolutely would be first in line.  Scientists have addressed this topic specifically and said that faster does not necessarily mean less safe.  How long other vaccines have taken has some relevance but there is SO much more to consider.  In the beginning, scientists said that due to the structure of the virus (I am not sure of the technical terms) a vaccine would be fairly easy to develop, as vaccines go.  Keep in mind that flu vaccines are developed each and every year - and each and ever year they are different than before.  This virus is very deadly - I would rather take the risk of a new vaccine than the much higher risk of what would happen if I caught the virus.  Unfortunately, way too many people are afraid to take the vaccine, or feel they don't need it,  which will keep the virus around a lot longer and put other people at risk who for whatever reason are not able to get the vaccine.

Yes, it’s a very uncertain time. Thankfully we live well below our means and can weather the storm! LOL I do try not to preach but sometimes is necessary. I hope they get back to work SOON, Harvest Caye sounds amazing!

If cruising does open up sooner and things return back to normal,  prices might be lower to attract cruisers back on board...

With a .3% death rate? Yes. Whine at me all you want but at some point we have resume. Everyone says listen to the science, but they don’t want to.

 

diamond Princess had passengers averaging about a thousand years old: 750 with covid but only 14 of them died. As far as numbers that’s the most truth we’re going to get. I’ll take those chances any day.

Also the cruise line cannot require passengers to wear masks, the crew perhaps but not the passengers. Not at these prices.

Interesting. I filed via the phone with CapitalOne and received credit within 24 hrs, Was also given choice of either using up the credit as I used the credit card or a check for the credited amount. I used some to pay off current credit card charges and a check for the remaining amount.

We bumped our March 2021 11-nighter to 2022 as well.  I still believe that a lot can happen between now and March, 2021 but I'm not convinced that a return to normal will have occurred by then and I am not willing to pay tons of money for a substandard cruising experience.

 

However, if we do see a normalcy restored, I will look for a shorter cruise to take in 2021 just to test the waters.

We're clearly of the same mindset.  As much as we love to cruise, we are willing to wait until it is both safe and enjoyable.

* New normal needs to at least include Celebrity being able to refund money paid in 30-days or less for cancelled cruises.

     * Staff will wear masks when in direct contact with guests.

     * Guests will wear masks when walking to any public destination in order to pass safely.

     * 100% enforcement of not refilling water bottles in water dispensers.

     * provided plastic straws

     * Theater will require 1 open seat between family members (family can sit side by side, strangers must leave one open seat)

     * Walking

It's simple-- Either go with the many restrictions to follow,  which doesn't include the 100's of Sr Protocol Enforcers onboard  ( Guests ) shouting " orders " at each other, or don't go.

How much " fun " could it be seeing 1000's of people all wearing face masks ?

Seems we will be spending next winter enjoying ( ??? ) minus 38 degree weather , again.

They absolutely can.

Just like they can restrict bringing liquor onboard.  Or prevent you from walking around the ship nude (except for certain charters) or spitting in the buffet food.

Their private corporation.  Their rules.  You aren't required to book.

Thank you for all your thoughts, much appreciated. We had our Summit 9 day cruise on 05/28/2020 cancelled, are due to go on 10 day Equinox 09/25/2020 and Sky Princess 10 day  11/05/2020.

We are in the process of lifting our January 2021 to another in January 2022, we're still deciding on the one we prefer. We both work from home in our personal business and know how fragile our income is. And really, January 2021 isn't that far off in the grand scheme of things.

I guess we are in the minority. DH and I discussed the things we enjoy about cruising, and most we could still,do with masking. If there’s no cabin service that might be a deal breaker... We cruise to relax on the ship, and avoid crowds. We do enjoy meeting new people, but I would bet money that there will only be short cruises for the first few months?weeks? My deal breaker is what happens when I come back, can’t be quarantined.

Of course they are a private company. That’s why I wondered why everyone freaked out about Carolyn Goodman in Las Vegas who essentially said the same thing in casinos but just ridiculed by cooper Anderson.
 

 But I don’t think someone paying $4K a pop for that Aug. transatlantic on the Summit is going to want draconian rules on their cruise, I just don’t think it would go over well. However I could be wrong and by your account I’m sure I am.

.3 is way to high. CDC has lower number. In the US a person who commits suicide and is tested positive for Covid is counted as a Covid death. LOL.

The cruiselines seem to be currently debating themselves, to either start up operations earlier meaning August or September however with more restrictions or to wait even longer. Like all other hospitality industries the cruselines also can't wait forever and eventually will begin operating rather sooner than later, even if this involves a lot of restrictions at the begining.

Which honestly is fine. I’m fine with restrictions fit the first 3 months or so as long as the ship sails
