Hi All, just a general question. Can I go onto a beach for an hour and just lie on my towel without being charged. I wanted to do this at Harbour lights but the beach attendants insisted that I had to hire a lounger/ umbrella. Are beaches free to use or are some private access incurring a charge. many thanks

If you lay you towel out away from any bar/restaurant and do not use their facilites you should be okay.  If you want to use their facilites and order drinks from the bar, then you should rent a chair from the beach club.

Beach access and beaches generally are free on the island -by Law.

Guys renting chairs and umbrellas will do their best to insist...

but whether you succumb or not depends on you and you cajones, OK?

Some beaches afford shade trees: pick your spot carefully.

On the other hand, having a chair and umbrella are far more comfortable.

That sun WILL burn you! Be careful. Lots of SPF goo...
