Beverage packages

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to decide if I should purchase a beverage package.

I normally purchase the replenish package, since I normally only use it for bottle water, soda for during the shows, and coffees.  Would I still be able to purchase a regular cocktail of the day if I should desire?  I'm thinking the cost would just be added to my room.  How much do they normally cost?

Thank you

Mary

~$12-$14 per cocktail and they would just charge it to your room.

Drink of the day is usually $8. On most cruises they will offer a 10 voucher drink coupons for $75-80. Sometimes it is for certain drinks such as well drinks.

Beverage package also includes specialty coffees and juices.

If you get the dining package you will also get 40 percent off on bottles of wine. A nice deal for the wine drinking crowd.

The break even point is usually at about 5 alcoholic drinks per day.

That depends on what else you drink....

If you like barista coffee and fresh juice with breakfast, a few sodas during the day, and three or four bottles of water every day, then three alcoholic drinks per day is the break even point.

Coffee    $4.00
Juice      $3.00
2x Soda $ 6.00
4x water $ 10.00

That's $33.00. Pay as you go and you need to add 18%, or $39.

Now you have two cocktails at $12.00, which is $28.00 when you add the 18%, and you're up to $61.

It's up to everyone to decide if the DBP is good value for themselves.

What really annoys me me is people who say you need to be a complete drunkard to get value out of the DBP. My example above shows that with just two cocktails per day, the DBP is good value.

On the flipside, if you are happy with standard ship coffee and juice, don't touch soda or bottled water, and have one or two glasses of wine with dinner, then the DBP is not for you.

I wish people wouldn't generalise on this topic....

Itinerary also makes a difference. If you have a port intensive itinerary where you will be off the ship a lot and drink package may make less sense than a sailing with more sea days, unless those ports are Coco Cay and Labadee.

We always get the packages.

I get the alcohol and my wife who may have a 1 real cocktail with dinner (COVERED BY DIAMOND STATUS) but loves the MOCK-tails gets the replenish.

We book our cruises 10 - 12 months ahead and check prices when we can use the cruise planner.

We have 2 cruises coming up and as with all our cruises in the past we are paying $44 and $20 for our packages. I have been able to get them as low as $39 and $19 on occasion.

ALWAYS WORTH GETTING since we cruise the Caribbean exclusively and enjoy ALL the beverages included in both plans.

For ME anything under 70 a day is fine considering coffees, waters, sodas,  juices, wines, beers and liquors add up and besides it's a cruise and the card is just so much more convenient to use. Just an evening in the Theater and a few hours in the Casino will easily involve 3-4 drinks.
