MsTabbyKats Posted July 24, 2020 #1 Share Posted July 24, 2020 My June 2020 cruise: Canceled My Oct 2020 cruise: Canceled My Early Winter 2021 cruise: not booked because it will probably be canceled My Late Spring 2021 cruise: not booked because it may be canceled My Fall 2021 cruise: booked and hopefully "a go" So with at least 2 (and probably 4) cruises not taken, I've "not spent" a lot of money. I plan on indulging myself if the Fall cruise actually happens. Anyone else have such plans?
Rare ninjacat123 Posted July 24, 2020 #2 Share Posted July 24, 2020 I've been thinking about Spa treatments for our Jan 2021 cruise out of Charleston. We have a spa balcony room so why not go for it! 😉
MsTabbyKats Posted July 24, 2020 Author #3 Share Posted July 24, 2020 I have a spa interior booked for the Sept (to Canada) cruise. I was planning to upgrade to the suite but "balconies to Canada" are really useless, so I added on another cruise to make it a B2B in the interior. I plan on taking full advantage of the spa! I also will increase the casino budget and the overpriced jewelry budget. Keep in mind, I have the $600 OBC too. I'm ordering flowers for the cabin (DH is a romantic). Since we've been to these ports many times in the past, no tours. But we will be supporting the local economy. One super major splurge and I know I'll be laughed at! DH is always joking about buying a Rolex. Personally, I don't know the point. But he's been a very good DH, and if this cruise happens, he'll be 87. Maybe it's time to indulge him too.
sanmarcosman Posted July 24, 2020 #4 Share Posted July 24, 2020 We've been shopping online for NASA quality rated moon suits, if that counts. They are pricey 😉 We will likely add an extra shore excursion if they are available. 1
bury me at sea Posted July 24, 2020 #5 Share Posted July 24, 2020 No particular splurging. Some of it will cover grats, which I have always prepaid in the past, and the rest will come close to covering usual on-board expenditures.
Earthworm Jim Posted July 24, 2020 #6 Share Posted July 24, 2020 I imagine the fact that a lot of people have some FCC and/or OBC from cancelled cruises now, that will lead to some splurging when cruises resume.

Rare Saint Greg Posted July 24, 2020 #8 Share Posted July 24, 2020 When I get to my FCC cruises I'm probably going to have like $800 OBC. That buys a lot of steaks.

Joe817 Posted July 24, 2020 #10 Share Posted July 24, 2020 We will definitely pay for the steakhouse with the obc. I want a ceramic ship, suitable for putting on our L.R. bookshelf. And the usual t-shirts, an excursion, and several drinks. The wife wants to buy some Clinique items sold in the Fun Shops. The Dream had it, and hopefully it'll be on the Freedom. And.....whatever else strikes our fancy.

ZoeyVictoria Posted July 24, 2020 #13 Share Posted July 24, 2020 The cruise lines might be smarter than we give them credit for. If people splurge on their first cruise back, enjoy it and continue to make those purchases on subsequent cruises with their own money, the OBC will be money well spent by the cruise lines.
drsel Posted July 24, 2020 #14 Share Posted July 24, 2020 Only Carnival gives $600 OBC. I don't think the other Cruise lines give as much
Cruising_Addict Posted July 24, 2020 #15 Share Posted July 24, 2020 Yup, most definitely. When our Norwegian Fjords cruise for this June was cancelled, I rebooked the same cruise for next June and upgraded from a regular balcony to a Premium balcony room. And since I had to move out the 14 day Panama Canal cruise that I had booked for the fall of 2021 (I cannot take two 2-week vacations in a calendar year), to the fall of 2022, I upgraded our room from a porthole interior to an aft wrap. Talk about splurging! Lol, I'm getting more and more frustrated as time goes on, so splurging is helping me get over the disappointment a bit. I also had the Fascination cruise to St Thomas, Grenada, Dominica, Antigua and Barbados, that was replacing the 2021 Panama cruise cancelled just the other day. I'll never find an itinerary like that one again. Now I'm just waiting to see if my Thanksgiving cruise for this year is cancelled. The one where we were literally supposed to be in a cabana at HMC on Thanksgiving day. It's going to be heartbreaking to miss that. But I am racking up a lot of $600 OBC's in the process.

linz98144 Posted July 24, 2020 #17 Share Posted July 24, 2020 Summer and fall cancelled. Planned far out so it would be sure to sail. Our cruise for 2022 was just cancelled. Not splurging because we don't think we're ever going to make it on a ship!

I've had 14 cruises cancelled so far (!). They got four in one fell swoop yesterday. On each of the cancelled cruises, I've elected to take the FCC and OBC, so my wife and I have a LOT of OBC on multiple future cruises. Problem is, you can't use the OBC before you physically get on the ship...only those things in great supply will probably be available, such as alcohol, internet, gambling, etc. Compounding the issue is that we don't drink, so spending $ on alcohol is out. We don't gamble, so the casino is out. I guess, all-in-all, we're pretty boring 😏. We do take excursions, but am afraid that since we can't book the excursions prior to boarding, most of the good ones will be sold out before we even have a chance to book. In essence, I don't believe we can begin to use all the OBC that we have on our accounts now...and I'm sure a lot of it will go to waste. I know of the casino trick, but have to think that Carnival will tie up that loose end prior to sailing again given all the passengers who will have OBC's in large quantities. I guess I'll probably have to be satisfied with getting a souped-up internet package and Bottomless Bubbles 😉 First world problems I know, but a problem nonetheless. But, as far as splurging goes, we'll definitely splurge...assuming we can find something to splurge on. 😁 Garnett Edited July 24, 2020 by N7786W Flyer
Tjcalley Posted July 24, 2020 #20 Share Posted July 24, 2020 I think our December 5th Breeze (formerly Radiance) cruise is going to be canceled. So we’ll put that towards our May15th Mardi Gras cruise (hopefully that doesn’t canceled) we already splurged on that one by getting a balcony. Hopefully we can use the OBC by eating at specialty restaurants most nights and any excursions that are still available! We don’t drink or gamble either ☺️
naxer Posted July 24, 2020 #21 Share Posted July 24, 2020 Right now, with the price increases, just considering booking a cruise has me considering it splurging. What is going to be cancelled is now almost $2000 more expensive. The OBC might help.
stellarose Posted July 25, 2020 #22 Share Posted July 25, 2020 had to jump on MG. hoping winter will be ok.... fingers crossed. also might splurge on flights. hate to drive to Florida.
kona_wahine Posted July 25, 2020 #23 Share Posted July 25, 2020 I don’t think I will rebook until (For) spring 2022. I’ve cancelled 3 vacations since this whole thing started and tired of being disappointed. I have air I need to get booked no later than 3/31/2021, so probably will try for Hawaii in the fall 2021. No vacations for 2020. I hate 2020.
Rare MeganGC1983 Posted July 25, 2020 #24 Share Posted July 25, 2020 Definitely some surf and turf and some spa rub downs in the future. 😉
Rare Banditswife Posted July 25, 2020 #25 Share Posted July 25, 2020 We've been spending the refunded $$ on home projects... I do not think we will attempt to cruise in 2021, if our Nov cruise cancels. It'll be the 4th canceled cruise this year. I figure if I gotta stay home most of the time, I may as well enjoy my space, LOL
