Cruising has restarted

If we liked short cruises, probably would go if it was very cheap and very convenient. Would expect a lot of unforeseen problems with logistics and so on. Could probably bear being a guinea pig (or crash test dummy?) for a few days.

How would a willing American get to Germany?

Would you go if CCL offered something like that from Seattle? (too many cases in LA or FL)

I'm thinking that recently the ship is as important as the itinerary  ..... so I think I'm a tentative 'yes.' And future trips to Europe / Australia  / NZ / Middle East may be renting an apartment for a month

Absolutely.....

But, be serious u live in CA, so do I, look at r State....and the other countries no one wants Americans or Californians for that matter even in our own Country, there r 14 day quarantines .... even if you do fly.... I have 2 children that have changed their employers during this Pandemic and have moved or are moving to other States...regulations and  shut downs are so fluid....it has been a nightmare....

There is no doubt about it, I need a cruise!!!!!(my last returned on March 8th)...I would take one in a heart beat....When this started I had 2 summer land trips planned  to Germany, Oberamerau and Japan, Olympics.....only benefit of all these cancellations as I have been able to assist my kids....But when you start traveling thru the states and observing what people are doing...the logistics of getting people to comply with rules on a cruise ship...... really????? How long do you think it would take us to board???? I have 5 cruises booked...ports of departure L.A. and Sydney......one can hope....

NO!!!!   We cruise to see new countries and ports.

Hi Casofilia, what's the latest from NZ? Have they allowed you guys to travel to AU yet? How are your family members doing? We had another circumnavigation booked for this fall but that got scrubbed....Another one we have booked leaving from Sydney in April, it is a 21 Day | Papua New Guinea & Solomon Islands, but I doubt that will go....I agree with you, sea days are not my cup of tea....looks like we will be limited for awhile, so I am willing to take anything, just to escape....lol

@land lover

No bubble with Australia and while Victoria is so troubled with more Covid I cannot see one for quite a while.   Also the government still talks of keeping the border closed till there is a vaccine!!!!   They are also threatening charging returning NZers, my guess will be those who have left for a holiday, $3000+ for their 14 day hotel isolation on their return.

People want one with the Islands too; but I cannot see that either.

We are all well and hope you are also.

We have Southampton-Baltic-Iceland-Southampton and a River Cruise at the end of the northern summer next year so we are hoping things are back to "normal" by then!!!

We have had 4 cruises cancelled between December and March!!!

I went to a new dog park today. Everyone ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE wears a mask at the one in Walnut Creek and people leave if it gets over 10 (working age at that one). Only 2 of us did in Concord (everone was a senior). Go figure. Still I'd go to Seattle, Mendocino, or Monterey/Carmel if I could (not supposed to leave my city yet) and would take a cruise without ports

I can only think that the folks who would take a trip right now did not get put off a ship in Argentina on March 19th(The Coral Princess) and quite possibly get on the next to the last flight back to the United States on March 20th. Police escort to the airport, hundred + folks all sleeping on the floor, very small venue to eat, and so much stress. Yes, we did and while not being able to sleep for 4 nights after we got home, coming home was still the greatest thing in the world. So, if you do go, just hope you can return.

Well for starters we have to prove to the rest of the world that we understand Covid-19 and also that we know how to suppress the spread of the disease as a nation.  Sorry....but you are not going anytime soon to another nation that has been successful at controlling Covid-19 like Germany.....

Nope from me, too.  At my age, I have certain cruises, itineraries in mind, don't need to cruise just for the heck of it.  People talk about cruise withdrawal, but I take one long cruise a year, no short ones.  I like to cruise but it isn't a necessity.

Yes, I'm disappointed, end of Aug. was to be in Denmark for a Baltic plus TA for 26 days.  Four cruises were cancelled and I only have one booked for Oct. 2021.

Here is another cruise line recommencing operations.

"Explorer Dream, part of the Malaysian-owned Dream Cruises fleet owned by the giant Genting Group, is set to depart on Sunday on a "Taiwan Island-Hopping" itinerary. " Link

Genting owns Crystal cruises and also owns a shipyard in Germany (MV Werften).

And I can imagine it's getting ready to stop: https://thepointsguy.com/news/covid-outbreak-hurtigruten-norway/amp/

And the big question is how did the crew members get the virus since they had been isolated before the first cruise began and had been tested appropriately before the first sailing.
