ACL Ohio River Cruises

Good Day,

We are interested in doing an Ohio River cruise and are interested in any information this group may be willing to provide.

If all had gone according to plan, we would now be aboard ACL's Constitution doing the Grand New England cruise, but alas, that cruise was cancelled by ACL, due to "complications" stemming from the Covid 19 virus.

We would appreciate any first hand (preferably) information on this itinerary, that folks are willing to share.

The sail-date we are considering is September, 2021.

Thank you for whatever you can provide.

Ray, we did this cruise July 2019.  We did it westbound, Pittsburgh to St Louis.  Loved the free pre-cruise hotel in Pittsburgh; we went an extra day early at the same hotel (Drury) to maximize our sightseeing opportunities.  Had great on-board entertainment and lectures.  We love the Queen of the Mississippi, because it, like America, has both the main lounge and the paddlewheel lounge down on the 2nd deck, where the relatively cheap cabins are (AAR).  (On these newer ACL ships you have to go way up to the pricier level to be close to the main lounge and the sky lounge; it's a long ways down to dinner, and they don't even have a lower lounge.)  I highly recommend this cruise.

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your comments

We chose to sail from St. Louis since it meant being able to start our cruise on Janet's birthday, instead of leaving the ship on "her day".  We have not been aboard the Queen of the Mississippi, but have sailed aboard America, which we enjoyed very much.  The travelling between decks doesn't bother us (at least not too much).  We almost always use the stairs, even on the "big" (ocean-going) ships.

We decided to skip, the pre-cruise "up-graded" hotel option (Four Seasons) especially at $285.00 pp.  We have found the hotels that ACL has used to be very satisfactory and convenient.  We may well spend a day or so, at Pittsburgh, post cruise, before returning home.

Thank you for the feed-back.
