chipperberg Posted April 29, 2004 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2004 I just booked the Valor today for April 17, 2005, (Ok I am an addict) and I think I got a great price, what do you all think? It was $428 pp plus 181.03 for port and taxes. It was a cat 4A. For such a new ship, I thought this was a steal. Any opinions? I would be really mad if I did not get a deal, but still about a year to change. LOL. Thanks for you help ALWAYS. Kelly The Victory is waiting for me. beachpeople Posted April 30, 2004 #4 Share Posted April 30, 2004 That sounds pretty good. We have our kids in a 4C (I think - Lido deck inside) and they are 699 each which includes all port and taxes. Have fun! halos Posted April 30, 2004 #5 Share Posted April 30, 2004 It's a great price...but don't forget to keep an eye on the prices until you sail. If you get the opportunity, if the prices drop, you could make it an even better price or get upgraded! chipperberg Posted April 30, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted April 30, 2004 That is what I am planning to do Halos. Thanks for the reminder. In April I was upgraded from a 4A to an 8I (balcony Lido deck) The balcony prices dropped, and I just paid about $50 more for the balcony. I will keep my eyes opened. The Victory is waiting for me. dsclark Posted May 1, 2004 #14 Share Posted May 1, 2004 I am looking at the Valor as well. If I like the Glory, then I'll book two cabins onboard for my credit. One thing I already don't like about it is the eastern itenary. It goes TO St Martin, St Thomas and yucky Nassau. So, you really only get two good stops. The western looks real good, with four stops :Cozumel, Belize, Grand Cayman and Isla Rotan. I lovce snorkeling and this route is a dream come true. smceown Posted May 1, 2004 #15 Share Posted May 1, 2004 dsclark, why is Nassau yucky? I am also looking at the Valor, the Eastern itinerary. We went to all the Western ports on the Paradise last year. I was under the impression Nassau would be a neat place to go?
chipperberg Posted May 1, 2004 Author #16 Share Posted May 1, 2004 NancAngel, you are sailing on my b-day! I booked thru cruisesatcost. Got the website throught this one. I have to still find Air from Rochester, NY to Miami, or maybe from Buffalo, usually quite a bit cheaper. I am hoping to find some kind of a decent deal with the air. The Victory is waiting for me. If you look at some past surveys, you'll see that Nassau was on the top 5 list for yuckiest eastern eastern ports. The place is dirty. You pull into a graffitti covered port and have to navigate a gauntlet of tour hustlers. I went to one of the private beaches near Atlantis and it was wall to wall people, so many, that it was hard to swim in the roped off swim area. If you need a beer or something, be prepared to pay big bukcs- it's not like St. Marten where they walk up to you and sell you a beer for $1. The straw market is a humid hot pit, hell in a warehouse. Lots of little booths all selling the same crap. The best thing about the area was the Senor Frogs by the port ( I had a good time there). St. Marten is a great stop, so is St. Thomas (if you take the ferry over to St. John). But, I think the Western Itenery is way, way better, a great deal. You can cave tube in Belize, swim with sting rays, see ruins, etc. Oh
Knights on the Beach Posted May 2, 2004 #19 Share Posted May 2, 2004 I don't remember seeing any graffiti the last time we were in Nassau, but I will admit that it's one of my least favorite ports. I think if you've never been there before, you may enjoy it if you take some kind of shore excursion, rather than just walking around. On our last cruise that stopped in Nassau, I wanted to to the Yellowbird, but it was cancelled that day. It was a rainy, drizzly day, so we ended up just walking around the shops for a while then headed back to the boat. Beth ~~~~~~~~~~~ Countdown to Glory Emerald Seas 6/86 Emerald Seas 11/87 S.S. BETSY DOLL Posted May 2, 2004 #20 Share Posted May 2, 2004 Kelly- looks like you will be traveling on the Valor the same time we are. I was just looking at the prices today. We are going to book a Cat 11 suite- (3 women need room) and the price was $1200 PP for it. We hope to get upgrade to Cat 12 due to frequent cruisers. Or, if price drops- I will pay the difference. We just got off the Glory, sailed April 17- what a wonderful trip! By the way, did anyone cruising that week see 3 crazy women with "Bud", our blow up doll we took with us for fun? He waved to many ships leaving St. Thomas.....
chipperberg Posted May 3, 2004 Author #21 Share Posted May 3, 2004 HI Betsy Doll. I am so glad we will be most likely cruising together. It is so far away, but I can hardly wait still. I am trying to get as many people as I can to go, the more the merrier. Kelly
tcsmithh Posted May 3, 2004 #22 Share Posted May 3, 2004 great to hear others are allready booking on the valor. my wife booked 5 rooms last week (3 days after we got off the pride). I think the price you got was a good one, we paid 650 inside 900 balcony, deck 6, on the day of their big sale!
chipperberg Posted May 3, 2004 Author #23 Share Posted May 3, 2004 I booked the Valor about a week after I got off the Victory. I think this is the best cure for post cruise depression. I am happy with the preice we got. Now all I have to do is find airfare. Should not be too hard. I am hoping to upgrade eventually to a balcony, but if not, I will be just fine inside. The mighty Valor awaits, let the PARTY begin.
