Tahquamenon is beautiful, nice pics!.  Hope you checked out the shipwreck museum at Whitefish Point.  I knew the guys who were involved in setting all that up years ago.

Any day in the UP is a good day 🙂

We did.   Some interesting facts about why there were so many shipwrecks in that area.  People think of the Great Lakes as just a lake, but they can be treacherous in a storm.

We also had the best fish and chips from a food truck in Paradise.  Lake Superior whitefish at its best.

Good morning all! Thank you Rich for the daily and thank you Roy for keeping up the Care List. So thoughtful of you to add me to the shout-outs. 🙂🙂

Besides gardening and counting down the days until we can travel again I’ve been working on this counted cross stitch the last couple weeks. It’s nearly finished. I have a Christmas themed one to do this winter.

Appears Oosterdam is heading through the Canal. Wondering what her destination is as no HAL ships moored in Caribbean.

Prior to this morning's change to the Suez Canal, Noordam was listed as having a destination of Limassol, Cyprus. I suspect that both Noordam and Zuiderdam are headed there.

Good afternoon and thanks for the update.

Its another humid day with thunderstorms expected later this afternoon. I hope the rain stops early, as we’re supposed to have an outdoor service tomorrow.
Dinner tonight is leftovers. Blessings and prayers to all on our lists.

Just an update on Jason, our young firefighter. According to a post on their FB page, they hope to move him to a rehab center on Monday, it is anticipated he will be there several months. He suffered a crushed vertebrae and other fractures. He can move his arms but has no feeling from the chest down.
Stay safe .

Captain's office on Volendam, located behind the bridge and adjoins his living and sleeping quarters. At the time of this pic it was Captain Pieter Bos, great individual to work for/loved by his crew, and now retired

Crew Bingo!! Always a popular event with some nice prices to be won. It is run by the ship's HRM (Human Resources Manager) and her senior HR clerk, and even the Captain (blindfolded so he can't see what ticket he is picking) takes part in the fun. The event is held in the A-Deck Crew Mess

They look delicious! I have never had a butter tart, in fact this is the first I am hearing of them and DH's father was from Canada! Is it a particular region "thing"?

Good morning and thankyou Rich and all who contribute!

@kazu the Swiss don’t export much of their wine, it is consumed there  so this may be why you weren’t aware of it.

@cat shepard  I’ll get him to watch for Mars, not sure it would help that much.

Love butter tarts and my former sister in law made a made a great butter tart Square!  Yum!   There is also a local bakery here that makes different varieties,  Maple, chocolate....  they seem pretty wide spread across Canada.

More  local photos,  we also had a porcupine eating the crabapples last night!

They are indeed delicious.

I don't believe they are a regional thing.

I think I used maple syrup in this particular batch.

A look inside Volendam's Bridge with Travel Guide Linda giving commentary inside Tracy ARm Fjord via the ship's public address system. A good look at the fwd facing camera and a couple of tropical birds "hanging around" On the bridge at this time were Captain Bos. a navigation (sr) officer, two Southwest Alaska pilots (mandatory) and two trusty quartermasters from Indonesia. House plants are another fav item on the bridge and they are taking care of by the QM's

Since this is also a "dog thread," this is HAL's Skagway, AK port agent Lynn and her dog Lilly awaiting Volendam's arrival from the Railway Dock. We were always glad to see both and Lilly frequently made it up to the captain's office 🙂

Maintenance does not stop with two sailors applying some touch-up on the superstructure from a rented cherry picker. The chief officer/staff captain usually picks the assignment via the bo'sun

DH and I were just discussing whether they are more popular in Ontario then any other place.  We have butter tart festivals, competitions,  routes etc.  Our granddaughter does not like birthday cake so it's butter tarts (not even sure she likes them) but we sure do!

Good afternoon Rich, Roy, and daily-ites.  None of the days appeal to me.  The saying is spot on....what a smell!!

Ribbon Salad with Orange Vinaigrette, not sure what it is.  Will have to google it.

The falcon is stunning and so is the water.

Never heard of Butter Tarts, will ahve to google that one too.

Hugs and prayers for both lists

It's hot, hot, hot here.  Was 95 at noon with equal humidity.  Takes your breath away.  Stay safe everyone and wear your mask.

Good afternoon, thanks for the Daily!  To paraphrase Elmer Fudd, it's vewy, vewy quiet here, as our family has departed for the 6 to 8 hr drive their home.  The timing depends on the little guy; the older one can sit in the car for longer, but the smallest one needs to be able to get out and "walk" (hanging on with 1 hand) for a while.  The morning has been spent changing linens, doing laundry,  cleaning up dishes, and putting baby items (high chair and playpen) into storage till Christmas.

I love using fresh herbs in cooking - they add a punch of flavour you just don't get with dry, and I'm all about Swiss Winegrowers Day!!!   Looking at  @Seasick Sailor's photo, it appears my garden didn't grow and now I know why - I only planted the corks, not the bottles!  Next year.

Ribbon salad to me is the disgusting tri-colour jello thing we used to have at Christmas - one aunt spiced it up with carrots in the green layer, and walnuts in the red.  Ugh.  I'll pass on that one for today.  Tonight will be leftovers from the past few days - Vietnamese noodles from yesterday's lunch take-out, as well as pulled pork, etc.  And wine.  Lots of wine.  LOL

BTW, I have a great recipe for Butter Tart Slice that I use regularly, as I can't make pastry to save my neck.  Let me know if you want it.

Prayers for everyone who needs them, and even for those who don't think they do.  Cheers and toasts for the celebrations, enjoy each one of them!  Be safe, stay well!

Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

Gerry
