September 2020 Update: HAL Dry Docks, Charters and Groups onboard.

The charters and group sailings organisations have been slowly updating their plans, so the information listed here may change over the coming months.

The information on the HAL website is sometimes contradictory to the information posted by charter organisations (i.e. some dates which are shown as charters on the organiser's website is still available to book on the HAL website).

A couple of things to note is that some Charters/Groups have posted their schedules, however HAL have not posted theirs (eg Nieuw Amsterdam, Caribbean Winter 2021 sailings).  Also there is a 3 day gap in Zuiderdam's Spring 2021 schedule, between Sunday May 23rd (end of charter sailing in Lisbon) and Wednesday May 26th (start of new sailing from Civitavecchia).

I am missing a lot of Dry Dock information, perhaps @Copper10-8will have some relevant information over the coming months.

Please treat this posting as a 'Base Line' and it will be updated and amended as newer information comes to hand.  As usual if you come across any information please post it to the thread for inclusion in the next update.

(Nothing is in 'Red' this time as I have treated it as all 'New Information'!)

Nada as of right now Mate! The 2021 sched has yet to be firmed up, the ships have to get to their future embarkation ports, as do the full crew that will man those ships, so a lot of work still has to be done. There are also ships who have already missed there 2020 dry-docks and a lot will also depend on open dry-dock space at yards like Grand Bahama, Singapore, Esquimalt, etc.

I have a feeling a lot will depend on the experience of the two Carnival Plc Costa group branch companies AIDA and Costa who are just getting going with pax in Europe as well as their new protocols. There will no doubt be a lot of conference calls between Rostock, Germany (AIDA), Genoa, Italy (Costa) on one side and Miami, FL (Carnival), Seattle, WA(HAL) and the other branch locations on the other, as to those first experiences and potential tweaking of them

Dave Koz has cancelled all three chartered cruises for May 2021 on the Zuiderdam.  I saw his post on his site.

It will be interesting to see what HAL does itinerary wise.

My first thought was 'Oh No, the Zuiderdam won't be sailing Europe in 2021!'  But, reading his website, there is no indication that HAL had any input into the decision, apart from the mention of social distancing, which would make his prices unsustainable.  Perhaps HAL are closer to a return to sailings than we thought. 🤞

It was definitely his decision.

I was tempted on that TA if there had been another segment.  Kind of a blessing there wasn’t as I think it’s too soon to go and quite delighted with the one I have in November.

Is Botlek port in Rotterdam NL a drydock? Why has Zaandam been there for a week?

The yard is called Damen-Verolme, NV and is located in the area known as Botlek near the cities of Vlaardingen and Spijkenisse. Botlek itself used to be known as a stretch of the Nieuwe Maas River (New Maas/Meuse River - remember, HAL's Maasdam got her name from the Maas River - There is the Nieuwe (new) Maas and the Oude (old) Maas River)

Zaandam originally was scheduled for a 13-day dry-dock in April this year at the Grand Bahama shipyard. That was cancelled due to the pandemic. She appears to have found a vacancy at Damen-Verolme where she is receiving standard maintenance plus the ripping out of her Mix concept, to be replaced with a smaller version of Billboard Onboard, similar to what her only remaining sister, Volendam, received last October at Grand Bahama

Thank you for reminding me of Spijkenisse, John.  I spent a memorable few days there, many years ago testing marine products in the harbour.  Historically, it was the place that King William III (William of Orange) sailed to Ireland to defeat James and the Jacobites at the Battle of the Boyne 1690 (celebrated by Northern Ireland 'Orangemen') .  I remember noticing a memorial on the roadway which mentioned it.

Also it was the place that I discovered the 'other' dutch beer 'Oranjeboom'. 🍻

Thanks for the information John.  I suspected she must be in for either a dry dock or a wet dock.
