Good morning all!

I love crab however I can get it and cream (or jelly) filled donuts (not necessarily together). 😄 

Lol at the percentage who consider themselves above average drivers. 🤣  
 

We are heading home this morning, here are some photos from yesterday.

Just checking in to say that the fires seem to be getting slightly better and the evacuations are slowing down.  

The air quality is off the charts awful. Everyone is recommended to stay inside. Many businesses have closed to protect employees from exposure. Still waiting to hear from my employer.

Rustic Vegetable Pasta is today’s plan for dinner, using zucchini noodles as the pasta.

Although with the cold and smoke outside, a heartier pasta might be better.🤔

No real changes in the smoke fille skies here.

 

We will pass on the pasta suggestion as there is a roast beef to be cooked tonight, and yes I will make Yorkshire pudding with gravy.

 

Another forest floor wine.  Hmmmm.

 

It is amazing what one can find on the forest floor when out for a walk.  This salmon was a long way from the spawning stream.

Wow!  And I thought ours was bad - I think it got up to about 300 yesterday...  Today is a little better, but not much.  We were supposed to get some rain, but I think that has been postponed.  The sun is just peeping through the haze - we saw nothing yesterday.

 

 

 

We are at home this morning, waiting for the Maytag repairman (Is he still "the loneliest man in town"?) to hopefully fix the washing machine.  The laundry is piling up, and if he says we need a new one, I'll have to take some stuff over to a neighbour to tide us over.

@kazu, Jacqui, what a huge clearing up job!  Are you planning a vote?  I seem to think there was something about it on the news - and that you may relax your "Atlantic bubble" a bit?  I'm sure very few will want that to happen...

Thanks for keeping us on track Rich! Roy thanks for the Care List. I'm going to skip the days today-not that I don't like doughnuts, just that I don't need them. 🙂

I love the quote. DH thinks he is a good driver, but the kids have, for years, said "Don't let him drive, Mom!" Luckily we live in a small village and he occasionally gets to drive to get the mail.

I'm not sure what we are having for dinner yet. Might be omelets.

Thanks for posting the ingredients for the drink @summer slope I think I'd like this one.

Wow @kazu! What a difference. Great work! You've inspired me to consider my evergreen near the house. I think trimming the lower branches would be good.

@Overhead Fred What's the difference between a Bismarck and a Boston Cream doughnut? When I was a kid, my mom called the long raisin glazed doughnuts Bismarcks, but I realize now that that wasn't correct. I miss Tim Horton's Dutchies. 😞

Getting ready to close the pool. They come tomorrow to do that, so DH will fill the water bags, remove the ladder, do one more run of the robot and then clean/dry him off for the winter today.

Today was back to school with kids for my daughter. I know she's anxious, but very glad to be back in the classroom. She has packages of goldfish crackers to "O-fish-ally" welcome them to Kindergarten to take home this afternoon.

Roy - thank you for putting Bermuda on the prayer list. I've been watching the portcam there -- surprising that the cam is still working! According to the Royal Gazette, the eye of Paulette has passed over BDA, but she increased to a Cat 2, so the winds now are around 100. The residents know how to deal with these storms, but I still expect there will be a significant amount of damage.

For the Rugby World Cup in 2011 in New Zealand, Volendam was chartered out to rugby fans from Australia, New Zealand (the eventual winners) and South Africa. It was felt there was a potential need for a second security officer and staff so I was lucky enough to be that second. Two loooong flights (L.A. to Hong Kong + Hong Kong to Sydney) were worth it! My team worked the graveyard shift while Volie's "regular" SECO and his team worked the day shift. Volendam started out in Sydney, NSW and worked hew way across the always "interesting" Tasman Sea to her first stop in Kiwi land, that being Wellington where world cup games were scheduled. Other stops were Picton, Tauranga, Bay of Islands, and Auckland where the rugby final was held

Volendam's captain for the rugby charter was Dutchman Pieter Visser, like yours truly, born in Amsterdam, and he was one of only two captains (Pieter Jan van Maurik was the other) in the then HAL fleet authorized to fly his “own” flag at Volendam’s stern. Captain Visser, now retired, is a 32-year veteran of the Royal Netherlands Navy. After retiring from active duty, he joined the Naval Reserve and, with permission from the Dutch Minister of Defense, was entitled to fly the official tricolor (Dutch red, white and blue national colors with a foul anchor under the royal crown in a white disk in the center) of that service.

I’m not creative at all except probably with cooking. I don’t like filled donuts, just plain glazed ones. I love crab and it is so hard to get good crab here. My Mom probably loves crab more than I do.   Meal suggestion sounds good but we are either having muscles or carnitas. I buy the frozen muscles and they come out really good. One of DH favorites. But I have leftover pork to use so haven’t decided yet. 

Not sure why this photo uploaded sideways but this is my bougainvillea which has finally grown back after the yard guy cut it back too much. 

This is one of my pepper plants finally doing better now that the weather isn’t so hot and the nights are cooler.

Correct Ann, our provincial election is today.  I won’t be going to the polls today to vote as we already did it in the advance polls.  I was afraid today would be too “peopley” and didn’t want to be caught in that.  Turns out a lot of people thought the same way.  The advance poll turnouts were the highest ever, I believe.

 

I don’t think we are relaxing our “Atlantic Bubble”.  At least,  I sure hope not.  There was actually a poll done recently and the answer by New Brunswickers was a resounding NO.

     Good Morning Everyone,  Hope everyone is doing well. 

The Grands had "mini donuts" for their snack today, so I guess we were prepared!

 

     Love seeing the pictures of Yellowstone.  We were going to take a "road trip" to Yellowstone this fall, but it is on the back burner for now. 

       We are helping to school five grandsons between online, hybrid and part time in school classes.  It has been interesting as they were to go to school for the mornings this week, but now the air quality has closed their school.

      The northwest fires have our air qualities as hazardous and we have visibility  of 780 feet today, so no sending the boys out for exercise. 

       Our prayers to all who have suffered loss from these fires. (our closest fire is was 25 miles from us and is out now)  We have several friends who have been evacuated and are not sure what they will return too.

       Stay safe out there.  I really appreciate checking in and seeing what folks are up too.  One of these days we may just meet on a cruise!

Hi Ann; yes, I had an opportunity to attend my first two international rugby games ever, the first one in Wellington, Ireland vs Wales (you can see Volendam sticking out on the right in the first pic) and the 2nd one, Wales vs France in Auckland. Incredible atmosphere! Stay safe up there with the smoke and fires! No moments of tension/aggravation among Volendam's three big groups (by nationality) of fans. Everyone had a good time 

 

 

 

 

 

Never seen a military marching band doing the Haka before! Kiwis! 😉

That first photo brought back memories.  I've been by that stadium many times but of course never been inside.  If you hadn't mentioned Volendam in the picture I would never have associated it with the stadium I saw.

They look pretty similar to me. In Minnesota, Bismarks tend to be more rectangular than round. They are sometimes referred to as Long Johns.

Thank you Rich and Roy!   I am sorry for everyone dealing with the smoke, we have some but not at those upper levels.  In previous years we’ve been worse than Beijing.
