**** THREAD TO DISCUSS SEPT. 16 CRUISE CANCELLATION NOTICE*********

On the last cruise that was cancelled for us, Carnival would not allow us to apply the balance from a canceled cruise to a different cruise.  But I'm gonna try again for this cancellation.  Fingers crossed.

I had no problem transferring my deposit and balance to my next cruise.  When THAT one was also cancelled they transferred everything to my March '21 cruise.  Never had to put another deposit down.  I work with a Carnival pvp, not a TA, if that makes a difference.  If you don't get the answer you like when calling CCL, try calling again.  Sometimes some agents are more knowledgable than others!

But does the carnival PVP give you OBC out of his commission? TAs do that.

We are scheduled to sale Magic out of NYC in June 2021 after cancellation of 9 day NYC Radiance June 2020. It hardly seems like something to even get excited about. I received  a refund from the prior cruise- with the exception of $500 which I had transferred to new booking along with a tiny cash deposit. I do not dare to make further payments. I do not feel bitter- I understand entirely. But boy, would I ever love to cruise!!! Anyone thinking they’ll pull the ships out of NYC for 2021?

I certainly hope not.  We are scheduled for July 2021 on the Magic after our 9 day Radiance out of NY got cancelled in July 2020.

I am also booked on the Magic out of NYC for June 2021. The only thing i fear is they might be some dancing of the ships again between now and then. I wont be surprised if there is a ship change for these cruises

That’s a real possibility.

Ugh...if they pull out of NYC for the 2021 season I'm giving up.  I have the spa balcony booked for 9/2021...after starting off in an interior spa...then going to a balcony....then going to the spa balcony.  I don't care about the price...I don't have the fortitude to deal with 2022.

Our large group is all requesting refunds this time. I have to call though as the last booked cruise was $500 cheaper for the same trip when rebooked. They rolled that 500 into cruise credit. I don't want to lose that 500. I'm not going to roll my credits to a new cruise yet again so I guess if I lose it I do but get the other 2800 back. I know it's not in anyone's control but we were so disappointed our March 2021 was cancelled. We will go again when it's smooth sailing again.

I have never gotten "extra" obc from any pvp I have worked with.   I don't use a TA because I find it easier to access my booking or make changes when using my pvp.  Otherwise I have to work through the TA with all changes, and it sometimes takes a while for them to get back.

I agree.  I'm working with a TA now, but for the little bit of obc, just not worth it.  And if I call with a price reduction, my obc gets reduced anyway.  It's much easier without the middleman.

I just booked my first direct cruise. It was only 4 day so the extra OBC was not worth the hassle of using a gift card with a TA.  They have to call Carnival and it takes hours. Also, I have never once received a price reduction even though my last cruise there was a large price reduction.

We have a March 13th on the Magic.  So I wonder if it is still on for now?  I have not gotten anything from Carnival on it.  Final payment is not until DEC.

I did find this:

https://abc13.com/carnival-cruise-cancels-2021-trips-cruises-canceled-due-to-pandemic-travels-during-sells-ships/6431670/

That's supposed to be the first cruise after the dry dock.

I tried a travel agent a couple of times, and I'd rather go direct - even if that means less or no OBC or a higher rate.

Why would you throw away free money?

I'm accustomed to it.. after throwing away well into 6 figures at casinos over the years. I finally decided to just PAY outright for our suite, drinks, meals, etc. It's a lot less stressful as well as being less expensive!

I'll pay (or not take extra OBC) so that I can skip the inconveniences of having a TA again. As I said, I've tried it a couple of times and had some bad experiences.

At least people booked on those ships listed in the article have a definite answer & can plan accordingly.  Those of us with cruises booked Nov-Jan are still waiting for a definite answer.  At this point I don't care if we sail or not, I'd just like to be able to know whether to cancel/book our flights, hotels, shuttles.

Banditswife, feel the same way, we are November 2 out of Miami, at this point in time either way is okay, but would like a definitive “yeah or nay!” (We live in Florida so do not have the additional planning such as flights, etc. to handle.) Supposedly at this point in time we are a go, want to believe it, love the anticipation of a cruise, it’s wait and see.

It's "free money" if you count pennies.  Upcoming cruise is $3600 (this is before a generous casino budget and the tradition overpriced jewelry)...TA obc is $200.  If there's a drop, or I want to change....I have to call TA (and wait for his call back)...spend about half an hour on the phone talking about "how little he makes on the booking"....and then he adjusts cabin, price, obc.  It's not like he follows the price for me and let's me know of a decrease.

Yes I know it is tedious job for both you and the travel agent.
It should not be done unless the price drop is significant.

But by how much does the travel agent reduce his gifted OBC in proportion to the price drop.?
for example, for a price drop of $100, how much OBC will your travel agent reduce?

I know how you feel.  My January cruise was finally cancelled.  I prefer that than finding out two weeks before the cruise is supposed to happen.  I never did book the hotel.  I received a credit for my flights.   My next cruise is in April, so I am hoping for the best.

Lucky you living in FL.  We have our flights booked using air credit we had from a previous cancelled cruise, so if this one cancels we will have a limited time frame to book a different flight using those funds.  But like I said earlier- I hope we do sail on Nov 1, but I w won't be surprised if it doesn't.   Just dislike the uncertainty & waiting.  I sure hope they don't wait until last minute to cancel.
