MsTabbyKats Posted September 19, 2020 #1 Share Posted September 19, 2020 That's 9/18/2021.....one day short of a year away! I have a b2b booked that day...Magic out of NY. My official position is "cautiously optimistic". That means that I think it will sail, I will be disappointed if it doesn't....but if it doesn't, I won't be surprised. Also...if there are too many restrictions I won't sail. The big one is "needing to be on a Carnival excursion" to get off the ship in a port. I'm gonna resurrect this thread next September....just to see how right or wrong I was. Hope I'm packing my bags.......

Agreed, many times using private contractors, I've shared excursions with people who booked through the cruise lines, and ended up saving 100's of dollars. jmcancruise Posted September 19, 2020 #6 Share Posted September 19, 2020 We also are cautiously optimistic and booked for next September. For us it is after 2 cancellations. We have talked about what restrictions we are willing to live with and certainly restricting excursions is a biggy, but we are doing a b2b in a suite and then an aft Havana wrap, so we know we can really enjoy our cruise even if we seldom leave the ship. Yeah....we have a spa balcony. The balcony is "in case we're quarantined" insurance. The spa is "in case our options off the ship are limited" insurance. You gotta cover all the bases! jmcancruise Posted September 19, 2020 #8 Share Posted September 19, 2020 Yeah, I guess those of us who are really committed to cruising again will have to think outside the box. We probably would have cancelled completely after the last cancellation, but have $2000. in GC money tied up and weren't sure if it would be possible for us to cruise again down the road and don't want to lose that money. DH and I are not high demand people and can be quite content dealing with changes that might come along, so as I said we are cautiously optimistic about next fall. jmcancruise Posted September 19, 2020 #9 Share Posted September 19, 2020 As far as packing the bags go, I was just in my "cruise trunk" yesterday and was sad to see all things that I had ready to go for my original cruise in March. Can't complain though, we have stayed healthy and so far live in one of the safest places on earth. For that we are very thankful.

I don’t expect the three booked January thru May to sail, but I am hoping the cruises we have booked in July and September will happen. However, whatever happens with the future of cruising won’t surprise me, to include if the CDC doesn’t extend the no sail order at the end of this month, which I still highly doubt. I was realistic about "the early return of cruising". The data was "it's not gonna happen any time soon". "Cautiously optimistic" is my opinion, based on information I have today...9/19/2020. Things are looking much brighter than they did back in June/July....when people were "going to sail in August and have a great time". Obviously things can change....for better or for worse....overnight.

MsTabbyKats Posted November 10, 2020 Author #13 Share Posted November 10, 2020 Just an update: I've changed from "cautiously optimistic" to "optimistic" since the time I last posted based on "vaccine status" However, I went from: B2B Spa balcony...to first leg only interior a couple of weeks ago (it was a pessimistic day) Yesterday I resumed the B2B status....in a lido interior I dropped "Spa" because...who know if the spa will be available. I dropped balcony because I've done this route multiple times...and we never used our balcony (Canada in Sept...not sitting outdoors in the sun kind of weather). I didn't think it was worth a balcony just for "Covid Catastrophe" space. It turns out to be a very inexpensive cruise....between $$$ (not a fortune, but enough to cover most of the cost) I made on CCL stock and the OBC. Yay (I hope)! Sugar67 Posted November 10, 2020 #14 Share Posted November 10, 2020 After yesterday's announcement from Pfizer, I am optimistic that our October 2021 cruise will sail. It is our 15th anniversary cruise so we are really crossing our fingers!
MoreMouse Posted November 13, 2020 #15 Share Posted November 13, 2020 We’re set to sail in September as well. I feel pretty good about it. Crossing my fingers. We had to suffer through COVID last month, so I hope we can’t get it again. NOT fun. Enjoy your cruise! 🙂

I am not saying you are wrong because everyone’s tolerance, not to mention finances, are different. But I can’t imagine being forced to stay in an interior cabin for possibly several days on a cruise. It’s not a question of if, it’s just a question of when everyone on a ship is ordered to stay in their cabin due to a positive COVID-19 test onboard. Hopefully this doesn’t happen on your cruise or on any other cruise you book.

Hopefully this doesn’t happen on your cruise or on any other cruise you book. I beat you to it. I took a look at the Lido Inside cabins on youtube....and then I remembered that the Magic has Deluxe Oceanviews cabins. So, again...I moved our cabin "downstairs" and now we have a much larger one with 2 bathrooms (sort of) and a view! The thing with the balcony is that it's cool and foggy going north in Sept...we've done it...and never really used the balcony. It's not a matter of "can't afford"...it's a matter of "wasting money" on a cabin when I should be throwing it away in the casino!
pe4all Posted November 13, 2020 #19 Share Posted November 13, 2020 As NY is doing better than most of the country's other ports, I am hoping they open up cruising here next year. If so, jumping onboard! Gov. Cuomo is a tough cookie, and may not want cruising to open in NY unless covid is under control, as he will not want "hoards" of people from out-of-state coming in, possibly carrying the virus and overloading our hospitals. MsTabbyKats Posted December 9, 2020 Author #20 Share Posted December 9, 2020 I'll see you in Sept 2022. Both legs (actually all of NYC for the entire 2021 season) were canceled. I took the refund for the 4 day cruise. I wanted the refund for the 6 day cruise...but DH thought it was stupid to throw out the $600. So, I'm just about to call Carnival and rebook. Finally some communication ahead of time. Someone on my sept 11, 2021 roll call just posted their sept 8 day cancelled ... lol wondering if they know they are on a roll call for 7 day vista. So I came here to see who was cancelled to maybe figure it out.

I think of this cruise "like a stock". Invest the money, hold for 2 years, maybe a loss, maybe a gain. Also, used a PVP, not a TA. The whole "having to call the TA" whenever there was a change was very annoying and time consuming. In addition, because of all the changes my OBC was $0. My ta answers emails usually within 10 minutes, crazy dedicated. Even the night they changed us from allure to liberty, he first said he was busy and would contact me in the morning, but I guess he couldnt stand it and emailed ok what do you want, I'm on hold now, a hump or a aft, I said the aft corner if you can get it. Wasnt a month later rcl decided to cancel the 2nd week of my jewel b2b, and the options were to change it only one week. Hes gone to revenue twice for me alone, and I'm sure for others. My pvp worked days and business hours.,heck I swear he even answers in the middle of the night..meticulous record keeper. Those of us using him, I know I owe him a bucket of drinks for all the extra work hes had to do.. crossing my fingers he doesnt give up and quit. MsTabbyKats Posted December 10, 2020 Author #24 Share Posted December 10, 2020 @firefly333 The TA that I had booked the B2B with didn't even contact me about this cancellation. Other TAs, in the past, e-mailed me immediately when there were changes. I mean, he should be doing something for his money, right?

My 2nd leg of jewel b2b I booked neither of us ever got notified. Tbh I'm a bit put out at rcl about that. I came to cruisecritic and see a thread, feb 14, 2021 jewel cancelled. I'm like wait a minute, that's my cruise. I found out on cc I was cancelled and emailed my ta who called and confirmed it. He did take care of it, but I asked and he said no rcl never sent him notification either. Seeing it on cc isnt how I want to find out I've been cancelled, but i don't fault my ta for how he handled it. And was a big problem for him, as they only offered to move it one week either way, which obviously doesnt work for a leg of a b2b, so was another big headache for him to move both weeks. I had so many issues for a while I was afraid he was going to dump me. ...and we still have no idea when cruising will resume. As I've said even if sept vista doesnt go, I'm still going down to use the hotel on the beach. I'm ready for vacation
