Life after cruising. AKA Who is realizing they don't miss cruising that much after all?

I go to many more dog shows than I cruise.   The last dog show I was at my puppy was 4 months old.  Now she is over a year old.  Puppies really need to be exposed to the atmosphere of dog shows as they mature.  I still train almost every day since it takes about 3 years to get a dog ready for the obedience ring.   But sometimes I think I would be fine not to ever enter another trial..  

 

So I do understand about getting accustomed to not cruising.   Coasting for a while is a lot less frenzied.

I miss cruising terribly and I think about it every day. I work many hours as an accountant (and I’ve had to work in the office this entire time), so it’s super-hard to keep that up without the promise of real rest and time with my family away from all of the stress of life.

We typically sail 15-20 times a year.
Starting to realize I dont miss it as much as I thought I would. Anybody else?

20 times every year must be the world record for any paying passenger.
Only the crew have done more than you.

if you do it for over 50 years you will easily cross 1,000 Cruises.

Super Mario has that record for RCI - he typically cruises 50 weeks a year.

We've practically were weaned off cruising when the pandemic hit. We only did 56 total days in the last six years compared to averaging 47 days per year for the previous five years. Of the 291 days, 14 were on HAL, 28 were on MSC, and the rest were on Celebrity and Royal Caribbean. We no longer see the value in the product being offered. The final straw will probably being we are in the high risk age group for the virus, unless an effective vaccine is made available.

I miss cruises a lot! The excitement of sail away and meeting new friends, but I just can't get excited about wearing a mask all day while on vacation. Hopefully one day we can return to the old normal!

My new pastime instead of the anticipation for my next cruise is the anticipation for my next cruise CANCELLATION😇  I even made another booking for Feb so after my December cruise gets cancelled I will have another cancellation coming up to look forward to.😇  I miss being able to go someplace .  Going to try again to make it to the Keys end of November.

Sadly, the cruising experience, as we knew it pre-March 2020, might not ever come back in its entirety -- if it ever does, it won't be until a very long time.  Sure, there will be alternate versions and hybrids of cruising as we are seeing coming out of Europe with TUI, MSC, Costa, etc., but they are far from what we've grown accustomed to.

 

This said, I think I can adopt to different forms of travel for now and wait until there is a semblance of the way it used to be before I cruise again.  And yes, I will miss it but at the same time it will give me an opportunity to discover new ways of traveling and vacationing I would not have otherwise experienced.

Sometimes overdoing things make it seem old and monotonous. Having the ability to vacation that much is nice. For others that get 1-2 vacations a year, cruising or any other place is sorely missed.

We only cruised about every other year, and while I'm not home pining away about not being able to cruise, I WAS looking forward to cruising more often with just my husband (last kid going off to college next fall), trying new ships, itineraries and finally being able to be flexible and not pay spring break week premiums!

 

Like others, I love the planning process almost as much as the cruise - but we won't be back until masks aren't required and I'm confident that we won't held prisoner in our cabin.

For the first time in my cruising career, I have 4 cruises booked for a single calendar year (2021).  

 

Only thing I don't miss are the flights to and from the port city.  That's why I wish Royal would alternate an Oasis and Quantum class ship in Boston.  I would probably cruise 6 times per year if that were the case.

Unfortunately the case numbers are starting to creep back up in Florida.  May not bode well for the resumption of cruises. 🙁

I have to agree. We bounce around the lines and it's getting harder and harder to find the same value from even 8 to 10 yrs ago. Little things like uncomfortable balcony furniture and shortened production performances along with the cutbacks on the MDR menu have us rethinking our vacation destination. The itinerary is really the only draw now and since we are limited to the Caribbean and US coastal itineraries it's starting to get old.  A trip to nowhere if it were allowed would be a prison sentence, especially during covid.  There is no way I'm willing to cruise under the same conditions that we have to live now. I wear a mask 12 hours a day at work and I'm not willing to walk around a cruise ship wearing one.

I miss cruising but not the packing and unpacking.  In 2019 I did 10 cruises so a lot of my free time was taken up with planning, packing etc.  Now I have been knitting!  My son is getting a new apartment and he has graciously been allowing me to help with the picking out of furniture and all the stuff needed for a new place.  He is helping his Mama keep from getting more bored! My check book is a lot healthier, though, than it has been in years from the lack of cruising.

 

John - I get you and Laura have been very busy with your new experiences in Ocala.  New things to do during the pandemic has helped us all to prevent boredom.  It will be interesting to see how many cruise addicts go back to their former cruise habits when all is back to “normal”.  Katherine

I don't really miss cruising, but I do miss international travel. The idea of getting on a cruise ship with masks, social distancing, and all the new procedures keeps me from desiring a cruise. I will change my mind when the COVID rates go way down and the signs to wear a mask disappear.

Where I live the numbers are back down.  Although cruising may not start back up soon and I am sad about that we can go to the beach and eat out.  Even the casinos are open in a neighboring state a short drive away.

We miss it a lot. I retired last year and moved to Florida, looking forward to the 4 cruise ports.  The last cruise we were on was in December 2019, the  2020 ones were canceled.  We have 4 scheduled for 2021, let's hope for the best.

That rate I used was for last 3 years, we wete closer to 4-5 previously.

 

New philosophy will be 'less is more'
