I was entirely ignorant regarding African river cruises until rooting about to find the location of your photo @vada_9. In the process, I saw some beautiful photos taken along the Chobe. Who knew?

Are African river cruises popular in Australia?

I have no photo ready so I declare a WILD CARD.

I have no idea on their popularity. We booked this independently. I had seen them promoted in some of the Travel Brochures. I had originally contacted the Zambezi Queen re availability, but assume they held cabins for the bigger tour groups/companies as they wouldn't be able to advise till closer to travel dates. (I like to have my plans in place early). So we booked the houseboat. Funnily enough during our stay some SAfrican travel agents were onboard and they had just come from the Queen and they said it was virtually empty.

I'll leave you with a few extra photos

That looks amazing.  I'd love to get that houseboat info.  When the world was open, we tend to travel in a family group of 8.  That looks like a perfect trip for us.  I actually spent 6 weeks in Kenya while in college and would love to go back to Africa.

Search "Chobe Princess" and all will be revealed. (Part of the Zambezie Queen collection

Nice panorama @notamermaid. I do recognize where this photo was captured but will give someone else a chance to identify it. You cleverly omitted some spires that would have made identification even easier. 😉

Yes, the spires are missing and a few other "bits" of the original photo. Brutally cropped, it almost hurts my eyes. :classic_wink:.

P.S.: Bedtime for me, I will check back after breakfast.

We did the Chobe River cruise on the Zambezi Queen with AmaWaterways in 2018.  It was a great trip! – see the link to my blog in my signature.

AMA is part-owned by APT.  Between the two I suspect that Zambezi Queen is fully chartered most of the time.

Thanks for this. I had looked through some of your blog posts a few months back - I didn’t check out your safari link & wasn’t aware it was a cruise.

When I first opened the safari link, I spied two intrepid travelers posed with a big cat. Are these fearless cat lovers jazzbeau & jazzbelle?

Yikes!

Yes, that's us.  And those are real, live, lions.  A small group of tourists were paired with two young lions; we got to rub their bellies and also to take a walk with them.  [They had just had breakfast, so WE weren't on the menu!]

This was run by Lion Encounter, a program that breeds lions and releases them – to raise funds they kept out a small number of male cubs and used them in the tourist offerings in Victoria Falls [and two other sites].  But I believe they have ended that tourist activity.  A pity, because it was the absolute highlight of our trip!

I think it's Koblenz, Mosel side. Deutsches Eck would be on the left of the picture.

Correct! Here is the full photo: 1644627440_PICT00762015(2).thumb.JPG.2561e3ade7e8e7e1ee00e43d12fe6dab.JPG

To the far right of the photo you can see the statue on Balduin bridge. I was approaching Koblenz from the suburb Lützel when I took this photo. The divider in the river is an, I believe, artificially lengthened, island which is now the approach to the lock just behind the bridge and also serves as a waiting place and dock for barges. Most of the river cruise ships dock on the Moselle in Koblenz, not on the Rhine. Viking docks on the Rhine, a few others depending on the assignment by the harbour master. On my shopping trip there in 2015 I caught the Avalon Tranquility II when she was about to leave. About to leave? Yes, the sequence of my photos after this shows the ship going backwards out of the docking area and a later one in that sequence I chose as my avatar photo. This is the photo next in line:

I cannot say anymore which the ship next to the Avalon Tranquility II is, but the bright red one visible just behind is the Casanova.

Your turn jpalbny.

Here's one. Super easy if you've seen it - I think it's unique.

Where is this, and who is hanging out here? Both person and place, please. And the river if you want. Since it's a river cruise question... 😉

Sorry for the delay. We had Snowmagedden here today. Well over a foot and still falling. It took me 1h 40m to get 7 miles from home to work this morning!

I like that word, very descriptive. I would take some snow of you if I could. It is around 8 Celsius here and unlikely to get anywhere near a snowfall scenario in the next five days.

Stay safe.

This one I know from research on our hopeful trip on the Danube.

It's "The Man Hanging Out" , which is supposed to be Freud contemplating if he should let go or not.  It's in Prague Old Town.  I guess you could say the Vltava River, but you would see it on the Prague extension of the Danube cruises.

@jpalbny, seeing all the snow down your way.  We are looking out at green grass, although we don't quite have @notamermaid's warm temps.  We are feeling like -20C here, and that's warmed up from yesterday!  I do feel for you, I remember well a couple of years ago when we had a major dump of snow.  My car learned how to surf, but at least I made it 1/2 way down our lane.  It was a long walk into the house that day.  I was lucky where we were allowed to get out early because all of our office was rural living, and they knew we would have fun drives home.

Yes @Daisi, that's it! A most unusual statue, we thought. We visited Prague by land a few years ago, mostly on our own, but also we met some friends there. They showed this sight to us.

Here's the view of our deck this morning.

That pile of snow on the picnic table is really impressive! And yes, I raised the suspension on my Audi this morning to prevent too much surfing...

I guess the only good thing about all the snow is that people can't get out and socialise, except at the end of laneways as they shovel. Hope all stay safe.

Easy one for you guys...

I liked the conjunction of traditional buildings, church, and beer truck.

This next picture is from a town that is an excursion from a popular river cruise.
