Genoa - A 78-year-old man, a French citizen, landed on October 14 in Naples from the cruise ship Costa Diadema in conditions defined as worrying by the doctors. The man reached the Irpinia hospital in the late afternoon, around 7 pm .

He had been swabbed aboard the ship, which tested positive. The Costa Diadema left the port of Naples on the evening of Wednesday 14 October to head to Genoa.

Costa points out: «With the gradual return to operations, Costa Cruises is rigorously applying the guidelines for the protection of the Italian Health Authority , through the Costa Safety Protocol, whose prescriptions go beyond the existing requirements. In accordance with the provisions of these provisions, all guests aboard Costa Diadema in the cruise dedicated exclusively to French passengers which departed from Genoa on 12 October last, underwent anti-Covid-19 tests ».

According to Don of Don's Family Vacations, a youtube blogger, the 7 passengers that Costa had isolated in a hotel in Palermo tested negative with the presumably PCR test.  The one elderly passenger that Costa had sent to a hospital in Naples also tested negative.  So, Costa dodged a bad situation, but apparently all their protocols worked unfortunately these quick tests have a high incident of false positives which is not helpful to the cruiseline or its passengers.

That's why I'm glad we have multiple sources of information in this world. The mainstream news media in the United States has been, in my experience, overwhelmingly negative in its coverage of COVID-19 from the beginning. I'm glad we have sources like Don who can give us the real story. Yes, there will be some who try to shut down the cruise industry by pointing to this incident and saying "see? Cruising will never be safe again." Which is complete BS, especially when initial positive cases turn out to be false alarms. The industry is doing a spectacular job. Perfect? No, because perfect doesn't exist. Like every facet of life, the tourism sector will have some cases and will deal with them, and life will go on.
