True, but you also get compensation if you get CV19 during the course of the cruise as well. Its certainly more generous than anything proposed by P&O.

I agree, this further isolates the P&O position.  It is difficult now for P&O to either say that they are following the CLIA guidance or industry standard.  It's also harder for them to say that they are doing all that they can within what is in their control.  This would include, at least, matching the FCC offer, paying for the tests, and reducing the prices of guided excursions.

 

It's going to be interesting to see how strong the advance sales are with the new brochure. 

 

Will people assume Covid-19 is sorted by April 2022 (I pray it is), therefore "book with confidence" and ignore the refund debacle and financial resilience concerns...or will people's doubts about the current position, plus the daft protocols cause them either to delay or look elsewhere? Interesting.

An interesting question.  If you can't get your actual money back and wouldn't wish to accept a FCC, then an insurer may be obliged to cover this, depending on the wording of the policy.

The leisure and tourism industry worldwide, and particularly cruising, are in such a difficult position.  I feel sorry for those planning for the future - I think they are fighting for their lives/livelihood.  
 

This article, saying Covid-19 will never be eradicated, isn’t very joyful but all parts of society will need to adapt.  Personally, I think it’s health workers who need the greatest protection; if they’re not safe how can they look after others.?  If they can be protected, by testing, or prototype vaccines, or specialised treatments, then everyone else can make their own decisions about the risks they are prepared to take, and cruising, restricted or not, might be one of those risks.

The other issue is with regards to consequential losses, such as pre and post cruise hotels, flights, tours etc. Obviously the cruise company would not pay for these, but you would need to be 100% certain that your insurance cover would include CV19 cover for these expenses.

We took the plunge and booked a September 22 cruise, not with P&O,  thinking that if things are still bad by then, life really won't be worth living, so nothing to lose.

We are meant to be flying to Lanzarote in 11 days time. We are in a state of limbo, as Jet2 have only cancelled to October 31st - we fly out on the 1st.

We are assuming the flights will be cancelled, but are having to prepare as if we will be going. A real state of limbo.

I read a report by Van-Tam saying that he expects a vaccination to be ready by the Spring, however it will be most likely have to be done yearly with the flu one, and that the only disease  ever to be eradicated by a vaccination was smallpox.

Smallpox is eradicated apart from samples in a few very bio-secure labs.  No cases ‘in the wild’.  How many years since Jenner, and the shy Dorset pioneer, Benjamin Jestey, pioneered vaccination?  (About 200)

 

I do hope this thing can be hammered down.  In the meantime I don’t think any of us can be cavalier with other people’s health.  Be reckless/make a judgement for yourself - fine.  Be reckless & endanger others?  No.  That’s like drink driving etc

There have been some confirmed cases of bubonic plague in Inner Mongolia and China, reported as recently as this September.

I  think you'll find that there is no vaccine for bubonic plague, as it is spread by rats, but it is curable with early use of antibiotics.
