bafinegan Posted October 27, 2020 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2020 Hot topic on FB is that Carnival has changed check in times from 90 days out to 45 days out to 10 days out. The 10 days out check in appears to have been changed today. Looks like it is for all cruises (as of now). baf
reeinaz Posted October 27, 2020 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2020 2020 and 2021 cruises. My 2022 and 2023 cruises are 60 days out, the same date that final payment is due.

Butterbean1000 Posted October 27, 2020 #4 Share Posted October 27, 2020 Yep, just checked my 2/27/21 booking and it changed to 2/17. Hmmm, interesting, I wonder what the reasoning is.

I don't know if "harmed" is the right word. I eagerly look forward to doing this check in for every cruise. Now I have to wait an extra 80 days!! Am I harmed?? I guess not. But I am disappointed. I would like to know the reason for this, how does it benefit Carnival??? Or if they are not benefited, why was this change needed??

joepeka Posted October 27, 2020 #12 Share Posted October 27, 2020 (edited) Could this have something to do with an anticipated Covid-19 testing lead time requirement for passengers? I read today that RCI is requiring passengers on Asia itin's to have proof of a negative test 48-72 hours ahead of boarding; there was also mention of testing 14 days ahead of boarding but I don't remember the exact stipulation (sorry). Just guessing, but maybe it's something along this line?? Edit: I found the article, it's on CC and it's only apparently for one RCI ship out of Singapore; the 14 day thing must have been my imagination. 😩 https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/5676/ Edited October 27, 2020 by joepeka

Maybe, but I don't see the fact that I've completed check in as problematic?? What does it matter?? If it stays at 10 days then you have everyone on the ship tying up the website trying to do their check in all at the same time!!
Tjcalley Posted October 27, 2020 #14 Share Posted October 27, 2020 I can’t imagine early check in times being available like they use to for FTF and VIP levels. How would they be able to clean the rooms etc with people clamoring to set down their luggage?

There is no reason why the old window was so long. I never do the online check in until the night before embarkation. Ten days is more than enough time. Check in is not there to feed anyone's excitement about cruising.

Well the reason to rush to do the online check in is to pick a check in time and usually everyone wants the early check in time ...
stellarose Posted October 28, 2020 #18 Share Posted October 28, 2020 so my December '21 cruise could mean we check in 10 days ahead not 90 , 45???
DGP1111 Posted October 28, 2020 #19 Share Posted October 28, 2020 I completed mine at the 90-Day mark, printed my stuff, and put it all aside. Another member recently posted that she'd been "unchecked" with a new date assigned. My online info still indicates Good To Go. I'll simply go with the flow, as the cruise is probably one of the next ones to get the Whomp Whomp news of cancellation. .

ZoeyVictoria Posted October 28, 2020 #22 Share Posted October 28, 2020 I think it might have something to do with rearranging cabin assignments related to lower occupancy. It would prevent people checking in early and printing luggage tags and boarding passes for what has become the wrong cabin.
Rare MeganGC1983 Posted October 28, 2020 #23 Share Posted October 28, 2020 I’m pretty sure it will have to do with the testing schedule. You will have to upload a negative test result before check-in is complete or be scheduled for testing at the port.
cruizinisthebest Posted October 28, 2020 #24 Share Posted October 28, 2020 All of my through 2022 have been changed to 10 days. It'll probably be changed back to further out once they resume sailing. 10 days is cutting it close for me, but I can live with it.
