What’s for dinner?

We graze on the wonderful rolls while we wait for our meal. The Raisin Walnut Rolls are particularly scrumptious.

We both decline the starters, but DH orders the Snapper (as usual, he chooses the fish!) and I order the Medallions of Beef Tenderloin, with my usual baked potato and steamed vegetables. Both are delicious.

As it is Formal Night we are treated to one of the gorgeous Chocolate Journey Desserts, and this evening it is a Moist Chocolate Cake with a Raspberry Creme Brûlée and Bittersweet Chocolate Mousse.

Wow you must not have traveled too much. Many countries require proof of vaccination even to enter their country. I couldn’t even get on a plane to Manaus Brazil without proof.

I have had all the vaccinations available throughout my life, as well as those required for travel to other parts of the world, and thankfully I also feel just fine.

As a teenager we could not sail on a cruise without the smallpox vaccination, as it was required by the cruise line, so we accepted that as part and parcel of being able to cruise.

Indeed, it may become a requirement from the cruise lines that only those vaccinated against Covid-19 will be allowed to sail. Who can tell?

After a lovely meal we are just in time to join in with the Movie Music Theme Trivia at 9.30 pm in Club Fusion.

We wander round the ship, and then make our way up to the Horizon Court for a late night cup of decaffeinated tea, and to our great surprise, we see before us a veritable feast of amazing looking gateaux.

Princess never cease to please with beautiful pastries and gateaux.

Tomorrow is another day.......

Where has the day gone? Day 2 of our Hawaiian cruise is over and we wend our way wearily back to our stateroom, and that wonderful new Princess bed. I have been wondering how I can take it home with me, but sadly it just won’t fit in my hand luggage.

As usual, our room has been carefully prepared by our wonderful steward. The lights are dimmed, the curtains drawn and there is another chocolate on our pillows. And best of all, the ocean is ready to rock us to sleep. What more could we want?

So goodnight, sleep tight all you lovely Cruising Adventurers.

We have two more days of relaxation and fun to enjoy before we hit the ground running!

Thanks for the great treat of reliving a Hawaii cruise Ellie.   I have to agree that South Pacific on MUTS really sets the mood as you are steaming towards the Islands.  But the can’t miss mood setter for me is Elvis in Blue Hawaii.  The scenes of him and and his girl friend tooling around 1960s Honolulu in that red MGA  really set my mood.  Waikiki-what a place back in the day!  Still is.  Can’t wait for 2022😄

We are planning on going on the Hollywood In Hawaii - Movies & Waterfalls excursion on Kauai, see where that movie was made: Coco Palms (destroyed by Hurricane Iniki in 1992 - Iniki also let loose all the chickens roaming loose all over Kauai).  The tour host shows snippets of the movie locations where we are going with all kinds of trivia.  We're going to the beach where the Minnow landed on Gilligan's Island, near the hotel for Blue Hawaii, Jurassic Park, Fantasy Island, Hanalei Bay for South Pacific and see Bali Hai!  We might meet an actress who played one of the nurses jogging down the beach with Mitzi Gaynor, she is taking the tour with us to revive her memories of her much younger life.

Missed my weekly sometimes twice weekly swimming since lockdown and the tiers ... so looking forward to getting a swim onboard! I'll keep to "my side"  of the pool so I don't disturb you Ellie!

Not sure my husband would enjoy the rough seas he's not got good sea legs, he's quite hapy on the Med or Caribean but cant see him enjoying the more choppy seas you have encountered! I love sea days but he prefers port days! At least in  cruising you get both.

You are most welcome, LawDog61. It’s been a pleasure to do it, so glad you are enjoying re-living happy memories. I hope you will enjoy our visits to the islands too.

I can see that I will have to watch Blue Hawaii, now. Although I’ve never, personally, been a huge fan of ELVIS (no don’t shoot me! 😉) ever since we purchased the wonderful CD of his music accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra I’ve been hooked. We were lucky enough to visit the ELVIS exhibition at the O2 which was absolutely fascinating. We learned a great deal about his life there.

Like you, we can’t wait for this pandemic to be over, but it’s sad that at our ages (DH and me) we are wishing away the time we have left.

Hope you enjoy the rest of the cruise.

Well, Winifred, it sounds as if you are much braver than me. I’m afraid that I do the ‘toe dipping dance’ followed by the ‘inch by inch immersion dance’ when I go swimming, so for now you are very welcome to the pool onboard.

And of course, should I decide to dip my toes in the pool you are very welcome to join me. I will tell you though, that the only pool I tried was the one outside the spa, The Lotus Spa Pool, which is adults only. Although I love children and teach them, I do not like them jumping on me and splashing me! 🙀

So I will be looking out for you when the temperature reaches a warmer level. 😉

As for the choppy seas, I hope your husband is coping with the movement of the ocean. I have to say that Ruby Princess is very stable, and although it looks pretty rough she rides the waves superbly. It was only on the first day that we all looked like drunkards! 🤣

That sounds a wonderful tour, Papa Yoda. How fascinating to see where all those movies were filmed. It would be great to meet one of the actresses who jogged down the beach with Mitzi Gaynor. It’s such an iconic scene.

I hope to give you a preview of one of those places, but more of that later......

Going off Topic!

Forgive me for this little interlude but I thought you might like to see what that most iconic of streets in London is like today - Oxford Street, which is usually crowded with people and tourists. .......

This morning, and this evening ... an extraordinary sight.

We stayed in the Coco Palms on our honeymoon back in the 70's.  I love seeing it in Blue Hawaii.  As for Bali Hai, that is a mountain on Bora Bora.  Don't know where they filmed the land portion but the mountain they all look at with the fog around it is Bora Bora.

‘All happiness depends on a leisurely breakfast.’

As usual we wake early, having slept like a teenager (well, my babies never slept, but my teenagers had to be hauled unwillingly out of bed).

Today, Ruby Princess is following a south-westerly course across the Pacific Ocean, towards Hawaii. The wind has lessened a little, but is still a strong 25 knots. It’s partly cloudy and the temperature has risen slightly to 21 degrees C/70 degrees F, but at the moment there is no sign of sunshine.

As I peer out of the window I can see that the sea is still pretty choppy, but Ruby Princess continues to be very stable, and it causes no problems for us.

By just after 8.00 am we are sitting in the Da Vinci Dining Room, where we enjoy a hearty breakfast. Sea days present the perfect opportunity to take advantage of being served breakfast, instead of wandering round the buffet trying to find a seat. We will save the buffet for when we reach the islands.

That is such a sad sight to see! 😢

London and indeed the UK is one of my favourite places in the world (well, I am half English) so to see so graphically how this awful pandemic is affecting you there is heartbreaking. I spent Christmas there a few years ago and know just how busy Oxford Street should be at this time of year. While we in Australia are doing so well with all restrictions to be lifted on December 1 (fingers crossed) my thoughts and heart felt best wishes are sent to you in the UK and in fact everywhere in the world that is suffering so badly. May 2021 be a much better year with all of us coming out the other side safe, healthy and able to cruise again! 🚢
