As the days go by, I have been reminiscing about the things I miss on board.  This is especially true now as cruising - at least for me - is still more than another year away.  How about you?  What do you miss?  Click on items in the list and add your own ideas in the comments.

Although I said that we cruise to see somewhere new, we also take a winter cruise to escape the cold weather.

The change of pace, the sunrises at sea, going somewhere warmer than New England in winter, coming home in a civilized way from a trip to Europe, interacting with previous strangers - there is a lot.

All except the casino as neither of us are gamblers.

Add the planning of the cruise itself, planning the payment of the cruise and excursions with different OBC options, planning excursions, planning the flights out and home, planning the hotel stay, planning wardrobe. So, in other words, all the planning that goes into it. Plus the execution of all of the above.

I miss all of it. Except the casino.

What I miss the most is not really being able to plan future trips.  Have one booked fo January 2022...not even sure about it.  Usually have 2 trips booked over 1 -1.5 years.

Even though I live in a reasonably warm climate, I really enjoy when the weather is warm on the ship as well.

But mostly the pre and post cruise touring.

Interesting - the cruise is almost just an excuse for another vacation!

I can't believe I didn't put down the whole notion of being waited on.  I enjoy this aspect as well.

Yes, add the planning part. And it presents a wonderful opportunity for DW and I to spend quality time together both on the ship and in ports while at the same time we can each do our own thing, for example I can participate in a lot of trivia competitions while she spends time swimming laps and lazing on a lounger.

Seascapes, landscapes, sunsets, and being unplugged. It's nice to have relaxing conversations with the Mrs. where we can really focus on being present and enjoying a truly relaxing moment. True intimacy is in short supply on land with so many life distractions but abundant while cruising. My kids also have a blast interacting with the other kids and aren't staring at their phones/computers/screens. All these things please me immensely.

My vote is the adventure of seeing somewhere new. I cruise to see new places that are not easy to get to by other means or lack acceptable tourism infrastructure. The same objective can in most instances be achieved without the higher risk of acquiring coronavirus that comes with being stuffed on a boat with thousands of other people some of whom may not take mask wearing and social distancing as seriously as I do. Therefore, I don't miss cruising that much.

I miss the delicious pizza on RCI ships.

I cannot help thinking that someone from New York would have a more demanding pizza taste than could be satisfied on a cruise ship.  Is RCI’s pizza really that good?

You should visit New Haven, CT if you are interested in superior pizza (more specifically: "apizza").
