I received an email which I’m sure many have from Carnival giving the drink package if you are a VIFP. We decided to take the family and called Carnival and requested 3 balcony cabins for 6 adults and 6 children aged 7-16. We told her the cruise we wanted and got everything we wanted except the drink package. I asked why we didn’t get the drink package and she informed us because it is only for cabins with double occupancy, so even if they are children under 21 you lose the perk. I don’t understand why Carnival would do this, you take an extra 6 people and it seems you get penalized. What are your thoughts why they would do this.

So only two people can occupy the cabin, even if there are children in the room, you will not

get it, I am looking at a Vifp offer, of a free ocean view, with drinks anywhere on the ship for

200.00 per person, but also get 400.00obc, but were thinking of taking our grandson,

who is 11, so we would not get the drinks package?

Many vipf did not get it so be happy at least it was offered to you.

I'm not worthy. There is another long thread where 4 or 5 of us said we want it. I'm not booking carnival anymore right now over it. People said carnival doesnt care about you, you arent their target pax, maybe you would like rcl better. I was attacked for saying I'm mad I didnt get this offer.

I expect to be attacked again but my feelings havent changed.

Yes its specific and says double occupancy.

Don’t feel attacked. I started that thread, and we still haven’t received that offer.

I think it is good for any one that has a VIFP number. It is code RU2, sure it has exceptions but I just can’t come up with a reason why they take it away for taken your family?

I called and they said the offer isnt listed in my offers I cant have it. You cant just book the code yourself, but thanks. I had a couple of the codes from the last thread.

It's ok, I will continue to not book carnival as I consider it unfair. My choice. But I've tried to call and get it.

Among other things I got told when I complained last thread, oh they know they have you, this offer is to get others to come back and book.

Well, not true, they shouldn't take me for granted.

WRONG.   Have cruised on Carnival since 1986.  Have been Platinum for over 10 years.  Since I am not part of Carnival's marketing strategy, similar to Firefly333, I was not worthy of receiving the offer.  At this point as I get ready to retire and increase my cruising from 2 to maybe 4 or 5 a year, I will be going away from Carnival over this.  I have 2 cruises booked on their Excellence Class ships and enough gift cards to cover part of a third.  Unless I get this targeted promotion in my offers inbox, the proverbial straw will have been broken and Carnival will be in my rearview mirror.  I know their emphasis has been on the blues, reds and golds to increase loyalty but some Platinums have received this offer and I haven't.  It's a bitter pill to swallow, but other cruise lines will be happy to receive my hard earned green.

If anyone has a better email let's write. If it has nothing to do with anything except having a vipf number it should either be for all or none.

Guestcare@carnival.com

Maybe if others besides me write and fill up their mailbox they will change this unfair marketing of only some get picked for free cheers on us. I'm not even hardly a drinker, I just think this shows poor management of the company.  If you have another email please post it. They refused to let me talk to a manager on the phone.

After 27 CCL cruises I am also unworthy with no cruises less than 6 days, mostly 7 or 8 dayers.  I will shoot off an email - let's see what they say.

It's not poor marketing. It's target marketing. They have algorithms that indicate which cruisers are money makers. They are the ones that get special offers.

I have NEVER gotten any special offer and most of my cruises have been 10 day or more Journey cruises to Hawaii,  Europe, etc. The thing is, I don't spend much money while on the ship.

Feel free to be upset. Feel free to book elsewhere. Please don't waste your mental energy stewing over this.

will the lucky ones who got this offer kindly inform us how much they spent on their last Carnival Cruise /Cruises--

1. Overall expense

2. Expense on alcohol alone

In my case, the cruises I booked have already gone up by 25 to 30%.

So it doesn't make sense for me to request for the RU2 code price for my Cruises already booked.

And I expect that the RU2 code is only valid for fresh bookings.

Please dont imply how much you think I spend or how I should feel. That's a personally directed comment.

Yes I've done the journey cruise to alaska, and would have maybe done radiance next year to panama but it's been pulled. Not that that should have anything to do with this.

You are probably the 10th person to say it's a targeted campaign. Exactly, and not toward keeping my business. Each person who says its targeted I guess thinks I didnt read the last thread where it was repeated over and over and we dont know it I guess.

I dont need posts telling me personally how I should feel. Telling a woman to calm down almost always has the opposite effect.

DH and I both have been getting the free Cheers promotion and a similar Casino promotion (free drinks and OBC) several times a week for the past few weeks. We did go ahead and book an 8 day cruise in 11/2021 for the free Cheers promo. We are gold and generally cruise 1-2 times/yr.

Normally, our onboard expenses are minimal. We have never purchased Cheers. Occasionally, we buy a 3 or 5 bottle wine package. Other times we've purchased a bottle of liquor from room service. Rarely do we order individual drinks. As far as playing in the casino, DH doesn't play at all and I will spend $10-$20/day on slots.

I'm not sure if this will give any insight into who is getting these offers. I assumed everyone was, in order to entice people back to cruising. Even though our cruise is still a year out, I have about 70% confidence it will happen. I sure hope the vaccine and it's distribution are successful so we can all cruise safely soon!

1. We did read your response.  Yes, it is targeted. Yes, you are not the target. Same with all those free cruises given to the casino players. Do you get upset over those offers?

2. You have every right to take your business elsewhere.

3. Feel free to waste your mental/emotional energy raging against this. You're hurting yourself more than  you are hurting Carnival.

4. Have a great day...I guess.

I personally don't care about any casino promotions since I do not gamble.  But I am perplexed at the algorithm that they are using that is only targeting certain cruisers. Between 1986 and 2013, I cruised on Carnival 17 times.  Since then, only 3 in 2015, 2018 and 2019.

Right now Carnival is hemorrhaging money because of Covid.  Why on earth would you limit a promotion and only target specific people?  If I was offered it, I would  push back my Mardi Gras cruise a few weeks and turn it into my first B2B adding money to the coffers that Carnival so desperately needs.  Without it, things remain the same.

My Sister in law received this offer and has been on only one previous cruise and only spent the cost of one soda delivered by room service!  Our last Panorama cruise we spent $1200.00 approx. on board!

As you have said, you already have a future booking.  I see that is planned for August 2021.  Pushing it back a few weeks won't work if they aren't allowed to offer B2Bs in 2021.  Your current booking is "value enough" for them.

If I were programming such an algorithm, I would target past-guests who have had a few drinks on their tabs, who don't have a current future booking, and who typically don't order Cheers!

We buy Cheers every time.  We have two future bookings.  Carnival is probably very certain we're going to order Cheers for our next cruise.  So why extend the offer to me?

Add to that, the email / offer wouldn't necessarily go out to everyone who passes that initial filter.  They might randomly cut it back to 30% of the target group, to test for how positive the campaign succeeds.  Then offer it again, perhaps to a tweaked target group.

It is unfortunate (for me) I didn't get the offer, but I am not surprised.
