Cheers Tip Per Drink Math?

So, if CHEERS cost $51.95 per day plus 18% gratuity for a total daily amount of $61.30, right?  That means a daily gratuity cost of $9.35 no matter how many drinks you order.  If you get the just the 15 alcohol drinks, you are only tipping out 62 cents a drink.   Add in a few coffees or sodas and that per drink tip drops even more. Right?

Yeah it’s something like that. I almost think it may be more like 15% because I thought it came out to like 59.75/day after the gratuity. I doubt that many people drink 15 drinks every day. But that’s also why many on cheers still tip extra per drink.

The convenience far outweighs the small cost in my opinion.

 

They swipe your card and give you a paper receipt.....nothing to sign.

Your logic is correct.  Your automatic gratuity per day is $9.35 and is independent of how many drinks you order/consume.  It is a potential cost or savings that isn't talked about much in regards to the Cheers package.  It is an extra cost for those who don't consume $51.95/day in beverages with the Cheers package.  It is an extra savings for those who consume more than $51.95/day in beverages with the Cheers package.  As an example, let's say you consume 10 alcoholic beverages at an average of $10 each.  Without Cheers, the auto-gratuity would be $18.  With Cheers it would $9.35 on the same amount of alcohol.

 

This should give you extra incentive to tip additional cash for your drinks.  Pass that savings on directly to your bartenders/servers and they are very likely to make it worth your while.

Gratuity is fixed.  Drink one drink per day and it's a hefty gratuity, drink 15 drinks and it's not so much.

 

I managed 15 drinks just once, no way I could sustain that every day though.  That's 15 alcoholic drinks.  The bartender even looked at me funny, like you don't look too drunk.  

 

The nice thing about buying Cheers! is not fretting about the bar bill with every drink you think about.  You get to try different drinks, if you don't like one, oh well.  If you don't feel like finishing a drink for whatever reason it's not a big deal.

It isn't the convenience.  I didn't realize how little the gratuity was per  drink.

The web site said 18%.  I was considering getting CHEERS when cruising with a newbie who is an former bartender so telling him that's the per drink tip will require extra tips.

Looks like it is 18. I think I was getting the $59/day after tips from before the package went from 49 to 51.

Well... let's do the math -- I like doing the math...

CHEERS package is $51.95 + $9.35 (18% TIP - prepaid) for a total of $61.30;

Average priced drink is $9.95, so an 18% TIP would be $1.79, for a total drink price of $11.74;

 

If you drink 5 drinks in a day, then the total TIP is $8.95 -- close to the 18% you pre-paid. 

 

However, if you drink 6 drinks ($9.95 x 6 = $59.70),  you have still only paid $9.35 TIPS pre-paid. Your TIP rate effectively lowered to 15.66%, a $1.40 advantage over the 18% TIP.  8 cocktails reduces the TIP rate to 11.75% -- a $4.98 advantage over the 18% TIP.

10 drinks -- 9.4%, $8.56 advantage;  12 drinks -- 7.83%, $12.14 advantage;  15 drinks -- 6.26%, $17.52 advantage;    

 

So, you can see why folks using CHEERS may decide to TIP additional.

Keep a stack of $1's (you change out bigger bills at the casino or the customer service desk) to tip for those who actually bring you a drink. I still usually tip at the bar if it's someone who is hustling and getting drinks out fast or who has a friendly pour but don't always tip additionally if I have to go fetch my own drink. I always tip an extra buck or two in cash if a runner gets my drink for me; usually always two if I'm on a higher deck than lido and a bit more if it's multiple drinks (even sodas for the kids). I consider that a true service that should be rewarded. Plus I generally get great service by doing that (cup rarely runs dry).

If you got the free Cheers promotion offer are the Cheers tips included? If yes, you're saving even more some there's even a greater reason to give an additional tip to the server.

Correct.  If you get the Free CHEERS promo, you pay nothing.  Tipping extra is greatly recommended.

When we do Cheers, I  bring a stack of ones and tip extra  depending on the service.

I never have gotten to the 15 limit but every morning  I go to the Java Spot early and get a cappucino and then one about 30 minutes later. Of course after dinner drinks in the MDR of a Baileys and coffee ae a great ending to a meal.

I hate the way they do the Cheers gratuity. It should be 18% on each drink like it is for regular customers. I get the appeal of paying everything up front, but it just doesn't seem right. I still tip $1/drink on top at least, which means the program is costing me even more.

This implies that without Cheers you still tip $1 extra, which means you aren't paying more. You complain about this costing you more, but charging 18% per drink would cost you even more so why the complaint? If anyone should be complaining it should be the bar staff (and I don't believe that they are complaining at all because the Cheers program averages in their favor).

The bar staff don't complain publicly about anything.  Anecdotal evidence showed that the bar crew shows preferential treatment to non CHEERS drinkers which is why I asked the question.    Averaging .75 or so a drink on CHEERS is not in their favor.

We always get Cheers and get great service. Of course we tip well for that service. I don't think it really matters if you have Cheers or not as to whether you get good service. They remember the people that tip well either way.

Yup, I don't care about any of that. I hate the Carnival makes me wait to get additional drinks. Especially when bars or waiters are super busy, often requiring me to get a drink first, then my wife. Allow me to get us both our drinks at the same time.

 

And sometimes I want a drink and a shot.

 

Yeah, I could care less about any of that you listed.
