Why would carnival need a police escort? I liked the bus ride. Good thing I didnt come here first and read it seems to some to be a bad thing.

To discourage bandidos. They also taped shut the luggage space under the buses I assume to keep anything from added or removed from the buses until they got to the destination.

Mmm Barbados..sea dream..might want to see

how they handle folks at airport and Covid

Barbados has been doing such airport-to-seaport transfers  for years now!

By Winter 2021, eleven months away,

with vaccines widely circulated by then

the wretched Covid situation should be well under control

and we'll all have little Covid Vaccine cards to carry

along with our passports.

Not many Caribbean islands open for visitors yet.  I found the following article for U.S. travelers.  It's not cruise specific, but if the restrictions are tight for general travel, I would think that cruise travel would be even more tightly controlled.

Where can you travel in the Caribbean? We've mapped it: Travel Weekly

If they are cruising in May, I would expect that missed/canceled ports will become sea days. Vaccines/immunity will not be widespread by then, and who knows when the island nations will have access to vaccines.

I'm guessing that the first few months of cruises will be cruises to nowhere (all sea days).

It might be easier and faster to obtain a covid vaccine in the Caribbean than at home. Some islands have access via association with other countries or organizations like WHO - eg Cayman Islands has access. Development Banks have made over a billion dollars available.

Cuba has 4 vaccines under development and China is also a source.

This is just speculation but

I can see a social vaccination point (50% of everyone?)

- by about Summer 2021 sometime? ..when you will need

a vaccination certificate/card/stamp-in-passport/whatever

to board and cruise.

By then

a mere Negative PCR test result wouldn't count for much, would it?

and cruise lines will not accept such.

So get busy getting vaccinated -

as soon as the opportunity presents itself!

Airlines are requiring a negative test, saying vaccination isnt enough.

Someone on my roll call claims to have insider connections who think june carnival might resume.

Yes, some islands will have access to vaccines sooner than others (like your example of the caymans), but the caymans will still likely not accept cruise passengers this year. More vaccines are coming, but it will be a long time before we can travel freely like we once did.

I agree that tests and masks will reign.  I am reading reports that the vaccine is basically pointless.  Here is a quote from one article:

“At a virtual press conference held by the World Health Organization (WHO) on Dec. 28, 2020, WHO officials warned there is no guarantee that COVID-19 vaccines will prevent people from being infected with the SARS-CoV-2 virus and transmitting it to other people.1 In a New Year’s Day interview with Newsweek, Anthony Fauci, MD, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), reinforced the WHO’s admission that health officials do not know if COVID-19 vaccines prevent infection or if people can spread the virus to others after getting vaccinated.2 According to U.S. and WHO health officials, vaccinated persons still need to mask and social distance because they could be able to spread the new coronavirus to others without knowing it.3 4

I think one point of the vaccine is to reduce the chances of dying if you do get the virus.

Fauci said he didn't know because it had not been studied - there was no data for or against. The drug companies were not asked to collect data on that. It is now being studied.

Remember, the vaccines only have emergency approval for use and are still being studied.

In any event, at a 95% effective rate, 1 in 20 vaccinated people might still come down with the virus. I'm okay with those odds.

If it hasn’t been fully studied or tested, there isn’t a 95% effective rate.  That’s fake news.    They don’t even know if it is effective at all.  The placebo worked almost as well in the one small trial I read about.  There are also reports that in all the places where they had trials, those are the places where the new strains have emerged.  UK, South Africa, Etc.  Could be a coincidence.  But it seems like the safest way for cruises to operate is for testing.  Like they are doing in Hawaii.

I guess you wouldnt be getting the vaccine. Seems like a lot of conspiracy theories you believe.

If what they are doing in hawaii worked well, their positives would be lower.

One small trial in a land far away from reality.

I hope the vaccine is effective, but the fact is we don’t know that it is because it hasn’t been around long enough.  The trials, if you actually read the details yourself, are very inconclusive.   That’s why Fauci and friends keep saying mask up.  Why mask up if we have a vaccine?  Good question, right?  The flu vaccine isn’t very effective either, but it makes people feel safer.  Hopefully this vaccine will have that same psychological calming effect, but the reality is that coronavirus is a cold virus.  And they’ve been trying to figure out a vaccine for the coronavirus for 20 years.  Everything they’ve come up with had side negative side effects.  So yeah, I am not optimistic about this vaccine, but I also don’t think the virus is anything to worry about, so I don’t think we even need a vaccine.  It doesn’t really matter to me if it is effective or not.  I get the flu shot and I know it is basically pointless.  My kids get the shot every year and they’ve all had the flu, at different times too.  I just hope the vaccine doesn’t have negative side effects.  But I do think they will continue with the masks and testing, because the vaccine isn’t reliable.  Not sure why you think that’s a conspiracy but whatever floats your boat lol.

It isn't rocket science. They say to still mask up because you can still be exposed to covid and possibly shed it, even though you have immunity and don't catch it. That is what is being studied now. The vaccine is effective at preventing vaccinated people from getting sick, much less dying. Not sorry if that doesn't work in alt-reality worlds.

It is fascinating to me that your approach to someone with a different opinion is to say that they live in “alt-reality world.”  You might find you get further in life if you actually engage in discussion with people in a sincere way instead of with ad hominem attacks.

First of all, cruises to nowhere will not happen when revenue producing cruises start back up because you need to have a foreign port stop.  That's  why Alaska cruises stop in Victoria BC and California coastal cruises stop in Ensenada MX.

RCI and Celebrity have already cancelled through April 30 and of course Carnival will soon follow.  They need to do test cruises, followed by 60 days and then finally short 3 or 4 day revenue producing cruises can start, hopefully by August 15.

What malarkey, whatever floats your boat. You are entitled to your own opinion, you are not entitled to your own facts.  One way to get further in life is to not waste time on the ridiculous or deny reality.

Cruises to nowhere were stopped because the crew doesn't have the type of visa that allows it and not because of the Passenger Vessel Services Act which identifies foreign port requirements.

Of course Carnival may or may not follow, we have no way of knowing at this point. Carnival is allegedly waiting on the CDC for clarification.

Does stopping at a foreign port without disembarking count?
