Good morning, all.  We were glued to the TV yesterday, and really enjoyed the show!  Much nicer to have it all virtual and the fireworks were amazing.  And I'm happy the first international leader to be telephoned will be our Prime Minister.

Jacqui, that was the line that stuck with me, too.

Good morning everyone!  Thank you for the Daily Rich. We don’t see many squirrels in our area but do when we rent the cabin in the mountains. The owner actually wants us to feed them, which we do, and they are quite characters.  I prefer pajama pants to sweat pants and love the ones I bought in Alaska when we were on the Oosterdam.  Both meal suggestions sound good but I didn’t make my pork tenderloin yesterday because I forgot to defrost the puff pastry, so that will be tonight.

Thank you for your list Roy and prayers to everyone.  @VMax1700 I am so sorry to hear about your cousin, very sad. Praying for you and your family.

@Dismomx5 I totally understand about the parents/grandparents with remote learning and can relate. DGD was remote here with us for 2 months and it was a struggle to keep on top of everything. Thank goodness her charter school has in class learning too because her Dad finally realized she wasn’t doing so well remotely and placed her back.

Have a great day everyone!

Good morning. Thanks for the Daily.

One liners can be funny.

My yard is full of squirrels who hide and dig up acorns; not sure I appreciate them! They also like to eat acorns on my porch and leave a mess. In my first house they chewed through the fascia board and got into the attic; I had to have a wildlife specialist come and trap them for release in the woods.

I can appreciate sweatpants since I'm in them most days, lol.

The sun is shining and it's above freezing! But snow over the weekend supposedly.

Not sure what's for dinner tonight - maybe a burger.

@VMax1700 Prayers for your DW. Condolences on the loss of your first cousin; so sad.

Our state is only getting about 150,000 doses per week of vaccines. My county says they don't have enough to start 65 and over shots, and ask for patience.

Prayers for those on the care list and cheers to the celebration/shoutout list.

Be safe, stay well, and wear your mask!

Good morning, all! I’ll pick up Squirrel Appreciation Day, since everyone else is passing. The timing is good - as of yesterday, Rizu is taking walnuts right from my fingers. She’s very gentle and shy about it. She spent several minutes with her nose about half an inch from the walnut before she decided it was safe.
We’ve taken smoked salmon out of the freezer for tonight, not sure yet what we’ll have with it. Congratulations to all those getting their vaccination appointments! Distribution here is not going quickly, and a shot in the arm is a long way off for us!

Congratulations to my southern neighbours for a peaceful transition and a new day.

And of course, Happy Thursday with fond memories of our blue hulled beauties!

Good morning all!

Our backyard borders some woods, so we have tons of squirrels.  It's cute to watch them running along our back fence and up the trees, but they can be a pest.  Our neighbor had a bird feeder but the squirrels would hang upside down to get the treats, and leave quite a mess.  They don't seem to bother my garden, I have way more problems from the moles.  😡

Years ago our SIL gave me a gag gift at Christmas, it was a large hollow horse head.  The idea was to fill it with peanut butter and watch the squirrels stick their heads in to get the peanut butter....and look like a squirrel with a horse head....(it was a very strange gift, but the idea was to give gag gifts) so, I lined the inside with peanut butter, hung it from the arbor in the back yard, and checked it each day. Pretty quickly it was found on the ground, in pieces.  The squirrels had chewed the plastic too (!!)  I've felt bad ever since, apologies to squirrel lovers!

I love Mexican food but not burritos so much.  No idea yet what is for dinner.  We've had a few colder mornings when those sweatpants felt good before the house warmed up.  Apparently we may get some snow next week, so I'm keeping those sweatpants handy. 😉

@cunnorlI'm happy to see that your governor has finally closed off vaccinations to non-Florida residents.  I have so many friends and relatives still waiting to get theirs, and they live in FL year-round.

@VMax1700prayers for your DW and condolences on the loss of your cousin.

Roy, aren't you from Allegany County? That powerball ticket was sold from there. After taxes, lump sum would be about $360 Million. You can do like over 6,000 cruises with 9 friends in Neptune Suites for that!

Why hello there. Excellent figuring!

Good afternoon on this slow Thursday afternoon - well only up to post #21 so far today.

We are just back home after DW having her first Radiotherapy 'blast'.  Only 14 more to go 🙏.

We also received news that my first cousin succumbed to Covid 19 this morning in a UK hospital.  He had been taken into hospital on New Year's Eve and had been in a coma for the past 10 days.

So wear that mask and stay safe everyone.....please!

Keeping your DW in my prayers, as well as you & your family. I am so sorry for your loss.

Good morning and thanks all!
@VMax1700sorry for your loss!   Sending positive thoughts to your wife as she starts her treatments.
Love to watch the squirrels,  our local bobcat has thinned the population a bit.  We have grey, brown, black and the small native red ones that are very feisty!

Yesterday  was a day of such hope,  for the world and also in our family!
Stay safe!

Area I live in has very few squirrels, and I don't know why.  Used to love watching them when we lived in a woody area in Florida.  From what some of you are saying, guess I should be happy that we don't have them bothering things they shouldn't!

@VMax1700wishing the best for your wife during her treatments, and sorry for your loss.  This virus is affecting so many.  Wish it was under control.

Burrito day sounds like my kind of food.  Could eat one version of Mexican food or another every day!  Sorry I don't have a margarita to go along with it!  I actually changed my menu for this evening when I found out what day it was!

Again, thanks Rich and Ray for your wonderful attention to The Daily which brings enjoyment to so many!  Prayers for those in need!

Enjoy your day everyone!

Hola Dailyites. Todays menu, smothered burritos with a margarita hits it out of the ball park for me. Ole'

Not a fan of sweatpants. I live in Pajama Jeans and sweatshirts in the winter when it gets down to a high in the 50's or 60's here.

I registered for the Covid vaccinaation on 1/11, the day it opened for my Group 1B.unable to get an appointment and on 1/19 registration was opened for Group 1C. Couldn't even access the website. Thankfully a friend was able to get me an Appointment for me on 2/22 at 7:30pm. Not ideal as this is at State Farm Stadium, home of the Arizona Cardinals, and it is aproximately a 20 mile drive for me and I would prefer not to drive that far at night but I will definitely go.

Like a good number of you I was glued to the t.v. yesterday, watching the inaugration. Hoping and Praying for better times to come for my country.

I'm a little slow getting here today, but wanted to say I have a grudging respect for squirrels. Despite paying handsomely (twice) for extensive "squirrel-proofing" of my house, they seem to find a way into my attic. However, I don't hold it against them, they are only doing what they are programmed to do. They have provided some entertainment during COVID, as my computer set-up overlooks our back yard. We also have chipmunks. The neighbors' cat likes to stalk both, but I've never seen him catch a squirrel. (Our chipmunk population, on the other hand, has dwindled as he is a keen hunter.)

For anyone with 20 minutes to waste on a funny video demonstrating the aptitude and drive of squirrels to get hold of their favorite food, the video link below is hilarious in the classic "engineer tries to outsmart pesky varmints" sort of way. (Apologies to Rizu!)

You always have the most gorgeous photos,  especially the wild life. Is photography a passion of yours?  I'd love to see more of your travel photos, e.g., from Greece and Italy especially...

Good Morning Everyone!

Quiet morning here, no Grandsons to homeschool today (mom is off so they are home)  Just have the other Grands puppy who is playing with my puppy.  They are getting kinda rambunctious and need to go out, but we have had sleet and snow this am, so they have been inside most of the morning.  We will venture out shortly and check on the chickens.

We have several squirrels who visit as I have two walnut trees in the yard, they are always getting the nuts and hiding them in my planters, find them in the spring when I replant the flowers!  My old dog used to chase them to the fence line (the squirrels knew how far to go!) he never caught one!  Will see if Holly puppy sets squirrel boundaries as she gets older.

Would love to be sitting on deck somewhere with a Margarita....................but today is just too cold for one!

Take care everyone, time to take puppies out.

This reminded me of my sister.  She also had walnut trees and swore that the squirrels would throw them (shells?) at her if she was working in her garden. Thank you for the memory, she passed 10 years ago and I miss her.

Taken from our favorite place, the deck of a Hal ship. Any Hal ship will do at this point....we're not so picky 🙂

Stay safe and stay healthy, folks, so we can rescue and reinvigorate the cruise industry while there still is one.

Have a great rest of your day!

Lori & George

So sorry to hear of your cousin's death, @VMax1700.  What a sad time it is, and for your wife, a difficult time to be undergoing radiation.

Beautiful photos today, and hope for spring - when we were out this morning, we saw a lot of snowdrops in bloom.  Hope they don't get too shocked by the snow we are due to get this weekend.

Squirrels - rats with fluffy tails, my cousin calls them - I love watching their shenanigans, but they (or the local rats) have twice eaten through the wire coverings in the car that lives outside.  Evidently T****a uses a fabric around the electrics which is soy based, and very tasty.  It's an expensive repair.  Now DD tries to deter them by putting Irish Spring soap shaving around the engine, and everything is scented by it.

PS Forgot to say, it looks like the new eagle babies in Florida may be hatching any day now!

A couple years ago we received a phone call from our neighbor; she was looking out her kitchen window while doing dishes and said a squirrel was waving to her from inside our garage window. I got a 'Havahart' rat and squirrel trap and set it to capture the cute little fellow. A short time later I saw him in the trap, but the door hadn't closed; he chuckled at me and ran off. About ten minutes later I heard some loud squirrel screeching and went to check the trap only to find TWO squirrels in the trap fighting like siblings. Apparently the first squirrel went and told his brother, "Mom doesn't know what she is talking about; that isn't a trap, it is just another food source."

They screeched at each other for the entire ten mile trip where I released them into the woods.

I have a horse chestnut tree in my front yard which is a squirrel magnet. They start in the spring when the chestnuts are forming and continue right thru to winter. They run along the top of the privacy fence in the back yard, climb up to the roof of the house and cross to the front where the launch themselves at the tree from my canvas awning over the front porch, when they leave the tree they jump onto the awning and reverse the process. The lazy ones just climb the tree trunk. Fun to watch but I am sure neighbours are weeding out little chestnut trees every spring!
