Quartzsite Cruiser Posted January 24, 2021 #51 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Being optimistic. Just booked five nights in Las Vegas for November. Hope by then, we really will have all our shots and things will be a little more normal. It's amazing the deals you can get just playing the penny slots with very little money each night. Just have to find the right machine. Lenda
Dismomx5 Posted January 24, 2021 #52 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Thanks Rich and Roy! What an interesting group of days today. I'm not a beer fan, though, so we won't celebrate that one. I think everyone is needing the belly laughs after a year of tension and uncertainty. I think that is one reason the Bernie memes took off. He is such a good egg and I love that he made money for a favourite charity! . I've taken pork chops for dinner so that's what I'll have. I think that I'd be good with either the drink or the wine today. Prayers for everyone on the prayer list and kazu's nephew as well. Happy Birthday @cruising-along! Blessings for a wonderful day to start a fabulous week! Be well. Stay safe. Be kind. Wear a mask! 😷

It was about four inches tall. This one was taken last October and it was 16 inches then. Lenda Love your Sahuaro! Does it bloom yet? We have an Ocotillo in our front yard but it rarely blooms because we don’t water it so it only gets rain water.

We were here until the middle of May last year, and it didn't bloom even though some in the desert were blooming. I'm guessing it has to be older and taller before it blooms.
cruzn single Posted January 24, 2021 #55 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Interesting days! Compliments to all who keep this wonderful place "alive." Thanks Roy, for including our rain on your shout-out list. Now, rain here today is in the form of white flakes. Very wet, and not sticking! Prayers for all who need them for all the bad illnesses. Wish this horrid virus would die a quick death, but guess that is why the shots are so essential! Went to Mass this morning which was wonderful. Very social distanced and very masked up! Haven't watched NFL in over 4 years (with DH it wasn't fun), but may break down today. Interesting group of teams vying for the SB! On the last cruise DH was on, they ran out of Amstel Light, and Heineken. Imagine that for a HAL ship. (And they couldn't re-provision in the middle of the Bering Sea in a horrible storm). I am enjoying the actual "live" pictures of our blue-hulled beauties. At least it is nice to know that they aren't "figments of an imagination." Have a great day everyone.

Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 24, 2021 #58 Share Posted January 24, 2021 I compliment richwmn on a nice collection of days, quote, and our updated maps every day, and I compliment all who post here for building a little community. Also in my thoughts are @kazu and @rafinmd and all who have friends and family affected by COVID. @65 Gator your efforts are surely appreciated by many. I'd never heard this, before, Thank you, Rich, for bringing it to my attention. I have to say, however, that this botherened me a bit, because it seemed contrary to my experience in a 40-year career. With some internet help I learned that this quote is attributed to "Oxford professor C.A.R. Hoare, in a 1984 article for the journal The Pentagon." The article goes on to explain more. What too many people think it means: Big problems are really small problems. Why it matters: Finding a small problem at the center of a larger problem isn't enough to solve the larger problem OK, that seems a bit more cosistent with my experience which can be summarized by this quotation from H.L. Mencken: For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong. 7 hours ago, richwmn said: Meal suggestion for today - Feta Tomato-Basil Fish That sounds so good to me. durangoscots Posted January 24, 2021 #61 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Yesterdays light snow turned to rain/snow mix in the afternoon and reduced the piles around the parking lot but today we added about 6 more inches. It is supposed to slack off again this afternoon and Monday morning and then another storm moves in late afternoon and evening. So far the forecasts are right about snow but not about timing. It is the time our local forecaster says "just look out your window". I hope this is right since I have an appointment with the dermatologist tomorrow. Had to cancel the last one because of the snows. Our local ski areas are very happy. Best wishes to all on the care list ... covid and otherwise. I was notified yesterday of the passing of a long time friend in Oregon. She had been ill for some time and moved into hospice last week so not unexpected but sad. Sadder yet was that none of us had been able to visit her while she was till in the nursing home.... Zoom and phone just don't cut it. Now out into the snows with the dogs.... the scottie loves it, the shih tzu hates it. And both boys are getting very picky about finding the correct spot. We all can use both a compliment and a good belly laugh, especially now. We finally have some snow, but it is very fine and forecast to turn to rain shortly.😔 DH talked me into making a gingerbread house yesterday. Actually, the baking was the day before, and assembly was yesterday. It’s the first one I’ve done totally on my own gluten free recipe and template, so I’m fairly pleased with it. A year ago today, the Amsterdam’s Grand World Voyage took us to Buenos Aires, Argentina. We took the shuttle into town, as there isn’t anything near the cruise terminal, and took the Hop on Hop off bus. We wanted to add a longer loop, but weren’t sure we would make it back in time. As a small comfort though, Buenos Aries was a segment start port, so we did a little shopping in a local store and brought two nice bottles of Argentinian red back aboard for the cabin without being charged a corkage fee! The view from the ship, and why we needed a shuttle to town. Passing beautiful old buildings, and shiny new buildings, that are kept clean and sparkling. The pedestrian street of Florida Ave. An orange juice vendor on Florida Ave, the ones that squeeze the juice for your cup while you stand there. Delicious! And fancy churros to go with it, if you want. A wonderful day ends too soon, and we watch Buenos Aires slip away into the sunset. And of course, the Amsterdam wishes you Happy Sunday! Love Buenos Aires and we were able to "live like locals" after departing the ship. 😄
Happily@Sea Posted January 24, 2021 #63 Share Posted January 24, 2021 The only thing I can appreciate about beer can day is - we used my dad's steel cans for playing 'kick the can'. A nice satisfying loud clunk and it lasted for a good long time. I'm glad aluminum cans came out after I grew up. They would be useless in that hide and seek game.

This is a horrid, horrid disease. @ger_77yikes, that is cold. We lived in Montana for a couple years and it got down to 30 below F several times but at least there it never seemed to last long, the temps would bounce around all winter. @65 Gatoragain, thank you from all of us for your hard work!! I'm just popping in quickly this morning, we will be leaving for the WA coast and some Vitamin Sea for a couple days to celebrate my birthday today. And best of all, on our way home Tuesday night we will get our first vaccines in Seattle. Best present of all. Stay safe, wear your masks. We will get through this! Rich and Roy, thanks for the Daily news and everyone for sharing. What a great group we are! The eagles are busy today. Dad brought in a lovely fish, and took a few minutes to persuade Mom to get out of the way so he could feed the babes. Now they are resting. https://www.dickpritchettrealestate.com/eagle-feed.html Sleeping beauties: We are watching the eagle cams as well. Fascinating to say the least to watch the parents looking after their family. So far, so good. I hope both the little ones survive.

Overhead Fred Posted January 24, 2021 #72 Share Posted January 24, 2021 Late again today. We were off visiting our son and SO to share the trifle. It was a hit! Angel food cake drizzled with creme de cacao, dark chocolate ganache, raspberries, angel food drizzled with creme de violette, creme patissiere, blueberries, whipped cream, madeleines and berries on top - I definitely appreciate beer cans, especially full ones. I appreciate them until they are empty and then go look for another one to appreciate! Here are some I never did open, a couple Iron City classics and two from a short-lived Saint Paul brewery -
