Hotel in or near NYC

We've booked our cruise with Norwegian sailing end of 01/22! We're looking for hotel recommendations.  We want a hotel where we can leave our car, that has a shuttle to the port, and won't cost a fortune! Please help!

You're planning on driving down through New York?

 

I think one challenge is no one really knows what's going to be available for shuttles and the like in a year. One decent option is to find a place an hour or so upstate from Manhattan, spend the night, and then (sounds stupid, I know) drive to the cruise terminal the morning of your cruise. There are threads on this board where people go through directions for doing just that, but I'm not seeing any of them right now. If you look for member 138East, she had a number of posts going through just how to get in and our of Manhattan easily to the cruise terminal. Parking isn't cheap, but it's doable, and you're on your way out of town fairly quickly.

 

Otherwise, you're looking at staying and parking in Jersey, and dealing with getting to and from the cruise terminal. While there are hotels with shuttles, they're not necessarily the quickest in and out options...

What you are looking for doesn't exist.

Plan to just park at the port.

For good hotel advice we'd need to know:

Exact dates

Bedding requirements

Budget per day in USD (all in, including taxes and fees)

 

As mentioned already, parking at the port is likely your best option.  Be certain which of the three NYC area cruiseports you are leaving from, too.

Not true.

In the past there were some hotels in nearby New Jersey that offered stay/park/cruise packages including shuttle service to and from the port.

Whether any hotels will offer similar packages in 2022 is unknown right now but if cruising is starting to return to normal by then hotels may very well resume offering those packages.

Welcome to cruise critic , have not heard of any hotel in nyc that has parking that is even close to reasonable, so need to look at New Jersey or other areas close to New York. Loads of great hotels and restaurants in area without parking.

Do you have any option other than driving there?  Any train or bus service?  That is what we've found most satisfactory/least stressful.  We go the day before, get a hotel in midtown, then walk to the ship on sailing day.

Your best bet for lowest overall price is probably found on sites like

hotelnparking.com  - lots of north Jersey possibilities.  I doubt if any would offer free shuttle to Manhattan Cruise Terminal as well . I am not aware of any NYC (or adjoining NYState area) motels offering either parking or shuttle - certainly not noth.

For what it would cost to drive and park in New York City proper, even at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal which is a little bit less expensive than most Manhattan garages, its very likely that you would be able to fly from either Ontario or Montreal (going by where it says you are located) for the same, and most likely a bit less, and just leave the car at home. Even when you factor in the cost fo taxis/uber from the airport, the hotel nights you'll need to and from, plus gas I still think you might save money flying-- especially with how cheap airfare is right now.

Or drive partway, perhaps even to a point where NCL offers bus service?  Or if not NCL shuttle, a town with reliable bus or train into NY?

Good thought - and think about the ease vs. a winter drive across part of Canada and New York’s snow belt

I think flying makes sense, or finding a hotel an hour or so out and just parking at the pier. We live in NJ, 10 miles from the pier, drive and park.
