I think that @drsel is saying that people were offering to buy ($) drinks for people who had a BP and could have the drinks for nothing. Generous but rather strange.

We had a man insist on buying us drinks at a Captain's Club party. He made a big deal out of it. I think he was trying to console me since he was convinced that I had been scammed.

Let's freshen this thread up a bit.  I am now asking the question "What is the Strangest Thing that you personally have done on board a cruise ship? 😀

First X cruise only our second cruise so really newbies. A Canaries Isle cruise out of Southampton on Eclipse. We weren't sure of the suitcase situation so had stuffed everything into 2 cases even though we weren't flying. To save room I decided to wear my new "dress" shoes for formal night to drive to the Ship.

Everything was going great we started to embark quickly but my foot felt a bit strange. We got through security and I had a look and the sole and heal were hanging off I took the shoe off and it fell off. So I spent the couple of hours waiting for the rooms to be opened firstly waddling around like Quasimodo with one shoe on and then just in my socks.

At formal night I had DJ etc on and bright blue deck shoes!

I guess this would qualify for one of the strangest things to happen to me and my family.  About 10 years ago we were on a Royal C ship and enjoying our nightly happy hour in the Diamond Lounge.  A very attractive forty-ish woman who had a drink or two asked if she could sit near us and take the empty chair.  This happens quite often and friendships are made.  She proceeded to tell us that the much older gentleman across the room (maybe in his 70's) was her husband who she married for his money and absolutely hated him.  She got quite angry and starting yelling at him across the lounge and told him that she was dining with her new friends (us) that night which shocked us.  He left.  We made an excuse and left without her.  Later that night my dw and I were in the casino and there she was but now totally inebriated.  She ran up to me and just draped herself around me and we both almost fell over.  The guest services staff came over for assistance.  She would not go with them and insisted that my dw and I escort her to another bar.  We agreed to take her to her cabin instead.  Honestly we did not even know her name! So we proceeded to her cabin and knocked on the door.  It was not her cabin.  She forgot where it was.  I asked for her Sea Pass which had the partial number but not the deck.  Then she said it was the next deck up, same number.  That was it.  Her husband obviously was sleeping but got up to answer the door and she stumbled in.  No thank you.  No apology.  Over the next couple of days we occasionally saw each of them separately on board.  Not together.  Neither even acknowledged us!

We were on the Connie during "limeaggedon", back when no one was carrying limes due to the high cost. We were traveling with a friend whose favorite drink was a Gimlet, and there were no LIMES! Our first stop was Key West, so we walked over to a bar right near the pier and asked if we could buy a lime. The bartender explained that no commercial establishments had them because of the high price.

We walked over to Fausto's to see if they had them. DH picked our 4 beautiful limes and carried them on the ship in his cargo pants. Each evening, he presented our friend with a lime, which she shared with some Brits for their gin and tonic. On the third night, the Brits insisted on buying all three of us drinks. We tried to explain we had the drink package.........

Strangest, most foolish thing my DH ever did when asked where we were from on a HAL cruise was to say tongue in cheek, "The Divided States of America". That unleashed a grilling from the two husbands of our tablemates to persistently demand to know who we'd voted for in the 2016 election. Luckily we were in select dining and made sure never to be seated with these couples again!

RCI out of Galveston a few years ago, our second suitcase did not arrive at our cabin. We looked up and down our hallway, no luck. Shoes, most of my clothes, and some personal items were in it. Went to Guest Services and they gave us free $150 OBC to buy necessities and 2 tooth brushes, small toothpaste and 2 large logo t-shirts. We were assured luggage made it on board and would be found. Nothing that night. Next day, went to GS manager who again assured me that luggage was not left at the pier. However, he did agree that if the luggage never showed up, they would provide transportation to the local Walmart at the end of the cruise so we could by some items for the second leg of our back to back. At this point I had only my sneakers for shoes, no curling iron and very limited undies. I had arranged to borrow a curling iron from friends who were also on board. After another futile search of various locations on board, nothing turned up. About 5:30 PM our steward brought the luggage to us. He found it INSIDE a cabin that had a Do Not DIsturb sign on the door since embarkation, thus no one had entered to clean since embarking. These people had to KNOW that was not their luggage, yet kept it inside their cabin for more than24 hours. Doh! But RCI surely took great care of us. They didn't rescind the $150 OBC, even tho' the luggage was eventually found.

There was a similar incident reported on the HAL board a few years ago. A couple's two suitcases were delivered to the wrong cabin, where the occupants simply shoved them under the bed to get them out of the way. It never crossed their minds that the owners might need them!

Yes, I have seen it being done on a neighbouring table once.

I guess many folks with the drinks package do it and it goes unnoticed.

Its exploiting the drinks package, but it shows them as being generous and the receiver probably appreciates their generosity.

It also helps them to make new friends, by offering one complimentary drink.

I guess the receiver would return the favour and reciprocate in some other way.

I see that most replies are what people have noticed not what THEY have done.

The " strangest " ( ?? ) thing( s ) I've done are:

1-- Ask the cashier in the casino " How much do you have to lose in order to receive a free Celebrity key chain ?  She replied with a straight face ----" Only the Cruise Director has them for winners of the trivia contest etc, etc, " . She thought I was serious .

2-- Ask a couple wearing red ball caps with letters ( 4 ) on them --- " Where did you buy those caps with the peak facing backwards " ?  To be " politically correct " ( I love that expression ) one of them replied ---" It's the same cap. You just turn it around ".

...👎 The BPs are not to be shared. Doesn't matter who they are or the intent. Of course now that will no longer be an issue as going forward those that were to cheap to purchase a BP in the past will no longer have that option with  Celebrity's AI.

We were in the Captains Club when it was very busy and staff were running around trying to serve everyone.  They had drinks set up on a table and guest were going up to it to get their drinks quicker.  One gentleman had got his drinks, one in each hand, and was walking back to his seat when his pants fell down, to his ankles!  He calmly placed a glass on a table next to him, gathered his pants up, picked his drink up and went on his way.  He had been relaxing and undone his pants and then forgot to do them up again.

This was probably about 10 years ago.

First night on a Bermuda cruise, wander in to the MDR for the second seating and we go through the ritual of being escorted to our table, which was a 10 top with two other couples already seated.

We sit down and one of the ladies said to us, "Well I guess you are going to get up and leave. "

I immediately replied, "You haven't done anything to pi$$ me off yet!" Which immediately caused two things to happen, my wife kicked me in the shins, and the lady burst out in a great big laugh.

It turns  out prior to our arrival the other two couples arrived, separately, which leads me to believe they were not traveling together, the first couple sat down and left within a minute or so, and the other couple  walked up to the table and just left.  No idea why, the people at the table were fantastic, we enjoyed dinner every night and had great conversation.

No idea why?

Ooh, tough call.  Not sure which I would have done first, pull up my trousers, or drink both drinks. Definitely, the third thing would have been to go back to the bar for 2 new drinks.

I would have bowed and said "and now for my next act". 🍻😎

I was on a Royal Caribbean cruise (Harmony OTS) waiting for the elevator.  It arrived, the door opened, and inside was a musician in a full clown suit playing a piano.  It took up most of the elevator but we squeezed in anyway and enjoyed the ride!

This is a mini-show across Royal Caribbean, not only on Harmony. You will find some videos on Youtube.

I have seen this on Spectrum of the Seas.

First night of a 75-day cruise on HAL.  Main dining room, second seating.  Mr Chew & I sat ourselves down at our table.  While we were waiting for our dinner mates, overheard a woman at a nearby table giving instructions to the waiter about how she liked her water every night, with lemon & a straw.  Finally our table mates arrived.  VERY old. The man sat next to  me.  He wanted to have a conversation with Mr Chew, who was sitting across from me.  The man had a very soft voice so I would have to lean into him to hear what he was saying.  then I would repeat it to my husband, and I would have to repeat my husband's response to the old gentleman.  Made for a very stilted conversation.  At one point, the man started mumbling something in my ear.  I asked him to repeat it several times.  His question - "does this ship go to Angkor Wat?"   The answer - No!  The unspoken answer - how can you not know where the ship goes?  That kind of killed off any further conversation.

The next morning, before I had a chance to arrange to change tables, we got a call informing us that the older couple was changing tables, and they were going to reseat us with another "lovely" couple.  The next night, we say the older couple enter and go right back to our previous table.  I guess they kicked us out!

But, the couple we were now seated with, was the lady with the lemon & straw for her water.  We all became very good friends, and we have cruised & traveled with them for many years since.

Here is a very stupid thing I did on Silhouette a couple of years back.  I was on a bridge tour.  I was at the Captain's station and briefly put my hand on a throttle handle so my dw could snap a picture.  Boy what a mistake that was!!  The crew reacted very quickly and reprimanded me among other things. My face was bright red.  I profusely apologized.  Very stupid move on my part.  Just not thinking!
