O offers upsells, down sells, and move over to a completely different cruise offers. Conditions of offer varies widely.

Occasionally when things are overbooked they will offer to cancel and give you a bonus.  Varies.

Of course in COVID time all cancellations are move over.

So, there is potential for move over offers in order to achieve a reduction to 50% capacity on pre booked sailings?

Yes!

We received a move over offer maybe 7 years ago. Didn’t get it until about 60 days out. I believe that since Oceania has started managing Guarantees better, the number of move overs has declined considerably. In fact, since final payment isn’t due until 60 days out now, it may well be 30-45 days prior before any such offer might be made.

I don’t believe 50% is a hard and fast number either. A cruise might have been booked to 55% for example and still go as currently booked. FDR once used 50-60% as a guideline.

Also, if they were to start up cruising at 50% levels on ships which have already sold out, how do they decide which PAX to bump?

Superb question. Has this been brought up elsewhere?

Does O ever offer Move Over Offers?  If so, what do they usually consist of?

They used to   but  now cut back on overbooking

They would offer upgrades/cash/OBC  depending on what cabin you had  & how bad they wanted it  😉

Maybe if the sailing was overbooked  before last fall

They have not been booking full for several months now

I saw a chat with FDR back in the fall he stated they will only be booking at 50-60% capacity for  at least  the first 60- 90 days when cruises start back up

maybe longer depending on the guidelines of the authorities

It is the great unknown  at this point ..do not think the major cruise lines have  been shut down by a pandemic  before  🙂
