Who else has one of these? Issued by WHO AND USPH

Recommended Posts

Back in the 1960’s I got one of these showing vaccine against cholera and 3 (!) smallpox boosters, and various other vaccines including polio.  I have now had my first Pfizer shot entered into this antique record and will get the second one written down there too.  Does anyone else have one of these?   I wonder if it will work for Cruising?

Oh, yeah! My dear uncle, Sam, gave me two of those over 30 years...

BTW, that is STILL the only internationally recognized proof of vaccination or prophylaxis by all member nations of the United Nations, and WHO...

I have a Yellow Card just like that.  Stanford's Overseas Studies Program had a very conservative view of the health status of France in 1967 and required a whole armful of shots [pun intended].

Edited to add:  I looked it up.  This is what I got in 1967:

Smallpox [revaccination – and I got a third in 1974 for some reason]]

Tetanus & Diphtheria

Typhoid & Paratyphoid [3 shots]

Polio [revaccination]

Influenza [2 shots - this was new then]

Typhus [2 shots]

Were there actual vaccines for the infectious diseases of concern? 😁

I added the info to my original post above yours.

This was a "must have" for travel following WWII.  Provided this card in 1949 for a trans-Atlantic from NYC to Europe.  Have used it since in places like Tanzania, Kenya and even Europe.  Carte Jaune was always asked fro first, then the passport.

I wish I could find mine!  I know it's in the house somewhere, crammed full of notations of so many different shots.  One did not travel very far without it.  Maybe looking further for it will be one of my quarantine projects.  Second covid in two weeks; I'd love to have it added.

I think he was implying that you might get exposed to some other diseases, of the social variety, for which there were no vaccines.  Yikes!

Only the concern they might be there, not that Host Jazzbeau would be at risk of exposure!

It would be interesting to know what Berkeley required in 1967...

BTW, that’s an interesting list for late ‘60s Western Europe. I’d have to look at whether smallpox even existed in France by then!  Unfortunately, DT cycled back and forth a few times if memory serves!

Sorry, just got the Moderna vaccine #1 two hours ago [yeah!] so I may be a little slow on the uptake.

We have our vaccination cards from the hospital where we had our vaccinations. Probably Registered with the State of Fla ...????

Would not want  to submit to authority of WHO...they are probably not bound by HIPA?????

But the administer of the shot is bound by HIPAA

Not sure why the question of HIPA came up.  I concealed my name and address.   That document doesn’t get registered anywhere, it is mine and mine alone.

Has anyone actually read their rights under HIPAA before signing their HIPAA release? Because it's pretty clear that no one but LGW59 and I'm pretty sure cruisestitch replying about HIPAA understand it at all.

HIPAA only applies to covered entities. Basically health care providers, health care plan providers (such as insurance companies), and health care clearing houses. So, as LGW59 said, the entity administering the vaccine is covered by HIPAA. There's a whole list of entities you'd think would be covered entities that aren't (schools, state agencies, law enforcement, etc.).

None of that really applies here. One of your rights under HIPAA is to request and receive copies of your health records. A vaccine record (which this is) is an extract from your medical records. It's shared by a covered entity under HIPAA with the patient. End of HIPAA. If the patient chooses to share that information, there's no HIPAA violation. Nothing in HIPAA prohibits you from voluntarily sharing your own health information.

The Yellow Card, (CDC 731. formerly PHS-731, or the WHO version) records information for the patient; there is no data sharing with CDC, WHO, a state health department, or anyone else on the form.

Nope. Born in 1984. Never seen or received one of these. I was hoping in 2021 we could do a little better than a hand written paper log, but since all they are giving out now are hand written paper cards, apparently not.

The Yellow Card was necessary to get into a foreign country – none of whom were covered by HIPAA [which of course didn't exist in 1967, but details, details...]

That was then.  Now is now.  If you are asking how the US Government will require proof of Covid Vaccine for travel, the answer is in your explanation of HIPAA:  health information is the property of the patient, who is free to disclose it if they want.  So:  You want to travel? disclose.  You want your kid to go to school? disclose.  You want a job? disclose.  You want to stay in home isolation forever? privacy intact!

Paper cards exist because historically the majority of WHO member states didn't have electronic records, and a paper card was the solution. The paper card pre-dates electronic records, or course. I could make comments about entrusting your electronic records to member states best known for telephone and internet inheritance and lottery schemes...

Yes, it's entirely possible that you'll ultimately end up inputting your vaccine dates, locations, and lot numbers into an airline or cruise database, and chose to disclose your health information. How that gets verified will be interesting. You can sign a release authorizing the entity that vaccinated you or that holds your health records to share your vaccine information with whomever you chose (United Airlines, Celebrity, Marriott, etc.). I don't know how that plays out.

All of my children have them and they were ALL born later than 1984.  However, we were military and travelling around the world, so maybe that accounts for it.
