Who goes sailing? Thoughts on how Princess (and CCL) will decide?

Not allowed by USA law from USA ports.

Not true. They could do cruises to nowhere, but would have to get much more expensive work visas for the crew. The cruise lines are not willing to take on that expense. Cheng has explained that several times.

You are correct, as long as the ships had been built in the USA.

Here's something of interest and somewhat on topic: https://www.cruisecritic.com/news/5969/

But that's a cruise not from a USA port.....I think we will learn more about who goes sailing once CONUS cruises start again.....hopefully in July (2021). I know there are smaller ship cruise lines sailing before that, but I'm more curious about the larger ships from Princess, HAL, RCI, Celebrity and the like.

From Royal Caribbean about this:

This is your chance to switch on vacation mode.
Adventure of the Seas® heads back to the tropics this summer,
unlocking seven-night getaways from Nassau. Double up on
thrills and even more time to chill with two days at the
top-rated Royal Caribbean® private destination, Perfect Day at
CocoCay. You’ll also get a chance to venture into Maya history
during a visit to Cozumel. And unwind on Grand Bahama Island’s
beautiful white-sand beaches. Island time is now.

At this time vaccinations will be required for adult guests
to sail on Adventure of the Seas. Guests under the age of 18
will need to provide a negative RT-PCR test result.

I suspect that when cruising resumes, there will be limits on the number of passengers....somehow. Either by total ship, or deck, or category or something else. I have no idea how they will decide who gets to go.....does anyone have any insight on that? I booked our future cruises with the guess than "earlier booked" will have priority over "later booked". But that might not be the line's criteria. I am also assuming that cruise lines are filling ships, and not limiting future bookings. Why would they? They get a feel for the demand, which I think is high, and of course they have your deposit for a period of time. I do not fault the cruise lines for their rational since they, like us, have little idea of what is to come when cruising resumes from USA ports.

Just a thought Princess will have a new Perk added to the Elite status.
Elite’s get to go first. 😳😳

Just my opinion but I think inside cabins will be bumped or upgraded.

I've been saying that for a year, based simply on how they had to deal with folks with insides at the beginning of the pandemic.

I didn't notice that you said, "bumped".

Since they are in the biz of providing accommodations, I think they will strive to upgrade folks instead of bumping them to another sailing.

Celebrity is showing pricing for their St. Maarten departures from $1999.00 for Verandah staterooms there is no mention of inside or outside staterooms.  I booked a Club Mini Suite on Princess in January for a January 2022 sailing and there was wide open availability.  When I checked that same sailing the next week, the Club mini suite category was totally unavailable to purchase.

I think it was mentioned above, but once ships get rolling, I do wonder why there would be capacity limitations.  Please don't flame, but after the logistic trial cruises are complete, what is the point to limit a ship's capacity?  I mean so there are 2000 passengers instead of 3000.  How does that make a difference wrt this virus?  I mean one can social distance, wear a mask, or whatever in either case.  Maybe they'll have a few more performances, but other than the theater, none of the other venues are all that large anyway.   Just something to think through (and I hope CDC et al does as well)

If they have to limit capacity, I am betting they will book the passengers which have a history of generating higher revenue.

Well, I don't think it's the frequent cruisers that generate the higher revenue.  If I were to bet, the higher revenue generators are first timers.  I say this since they rarely know the tricks and or what they might value more.  I know it was that way for us as well as our friends.  Excursions, drinks, dining, etc usually are less for the repeat crowd.

I reached elite status  Dec 2019. Haven’t sailed yet to get that mini bar set up or free laundry.
I believe they will control capacity by requiring vaccinations , mask wearing. Those on here saying it is their right to not follow these requirements won’t be cruising, for awhile.
on my next cruise they are selling excursions with a 50 person capacity hmm

I am ready to cruise again. And I am vaccinated!  But waiting for original itineraries and destinations I want.
So decided to move everything once again. Forward to 2022. I have lost track what was meant for 2020, moved to 2021 and now moved to 2022!!

I want to let things settle out once they get back operating.  Read the RCI article today about cruises in Caribbean starting- but if I have to fly to a Caribbean port and then fly back home - sorry..not worth it to me. I live in GA.   For my money it has to be flying to catch a cruise in Rome, Barcelona, Southampton- Caribbean is Ok for some but I prefer Europe and beyond.
CDC in my opinion has not done a very good job helping to start back a billion $$ industry.

Is this a Princess cruise? What tells you that this is the limit?

Yes, a Princess cruise  details/ description when you go to book. Some excursions show limit of 20 available , but that is not what I mean. In the details ie: number of steps, how long ride is etc it says 50 for some. Now this is for March 2022 & can change. Also, May mean multiple vehicles. Just don’t know. I will go for small group excursions if they are using full size coaches.

Unless there are less than 20 spots left, it will always show 20 available even if there are hundreds available.

The 50 in the details may be the capacity of the vehicle.  However with Covid in mind, they may actually assign less than 50 on each vehicle.

Yes, I am aware of this.
I do expect changes over the year.

I don't think that is true; I think you are confusing two different things.

No foreign vessels shall transport passengers between ports or places in the United States, either directly or by way of a foreign port, under a penalty of $200 [now $762] for each passenger so transported and landed.

As a result, all vessels have engaged in the coastwise trade have been required to be coastwise-qualified (i.e., U.S.-built, owned, and documented).

Had that exact question for PVP last week.  She said as far as she knows Princess has not put capacity limits on any US cruises and has no idea how they will decide who sails if limits are required by the CDC.  She had asked her boss and was told just keep on booking.

Interesting...

Pretty much as I figured. I cannot blame the cruise lines; like us they have little idea what will happen in the next 6-12 months. So little is up to them, but dependent on our ponderous government agencies. I booked our cruises back in December 2020 with the understanding just about everything was iffy and subject to drastic changes. I don't even know for sure they will sail with less than capacity, but I'd put money on a bet the ships sailing from the USA would not be full, by government mandate for at least the first couple of months. But then my luck, or lack thereof, is what keeps me away from the casinos! 😎
