You’re going to be busy Lyle.

The new Canadyan  forum, and a regular on the Australia,New Zealand forum.

Hey my granddaddy was in the Edmonton tunneling core WW1 and 2 .

He used to tunnel under the German trenches and blow them up.

He didn’t like the beer there and moved to Sydney.

 I think I can stir the #hit .

Chili,

Cheers to your Granddad! We thank him for his service.

As for our beer, I'm sure it's much better now than it probably was then, LOL.

As for the Texas subject, I do like Texas, my SIL lives there, but those of us in the prairie provinces may be a majority of conservatives, at least according to the last election map, but we are vastly different then Texas style conservatives.

Anyway, welcome to the forum, sit down, stay awhile and stir the #hit, we will have some fun!

Having to suffer BC winters is also becoming tiresome, much prefer the sunshine and heat of Indio, CA.

I guess it depends on what part of BC 😁. I'm guessing there are some on here that will find that amusing.

lovely warm sunny day today, shorts, sandals and sun hat!!!

Yes, we expect another pleasant day, with temps in the mid 20's. The Tilley will get lots of use again today.😀

Hello everyone.

Cold and windy here today with a chance of flurries this evening.  I don't think it's spring yet.

Hubby and I got our first Pfizer shot last week, the second one is scheduled for August.  There are lots and lots of cases of COVID in Toronto and the surrounding area, not so much up here.

We have a cruise booked for August, but I think we will cancel.  Better luck next year.

Believe it or not, we here in Southern Ontario are expecting some snow tonight and through the morning on Wed.  April can be a tricky month in Canada but as we have already had some wonderful spring weather, this snowfall is just another cruel blow.

Back to the topic of interesting experiences on cruises with tablemates.  One year, my husband and I were seated on the first night in the dining room with two other couples from the States who were traveling together.  One of the men had a coloring book and crayons with him and after introductions were made, he continued on with coloring in the picture he had been working on.  We found this quite odd but came back for more the second night and there he was with his book and crayons again.  We thought about having our table changed but the rest of the party was interesting and pleasant to chat with so we stuck it out and after the third night, the gentlemen no longer had his crayons and participated in the conversations around the table.  By the end of our cruise, we had thoroughly enjoyed getting to know these folks and are glad that we didn't go with our first gut reaction.  More stories to share later.

BTW - we have met the nicest and friendliest Aussies on cruises and still keep in touch with many of them to this day.

All the best for your new forum.

it’s not the best time for cruise discussion as a lot of people have lost interest.

How very interesting to have heard about this from friends in Australia.

I see some familiar names here, don't be surprised to get the odd visit from the folks down under.

I'm glad to hear that some have gotten their vaccine, my wife works in health care so she got her first dose last month, I registered as soon as my age group was allowed but no word back from that. It is almost alarming that they seem to be opening up registration to everyone by the end of the week but actual appointments seem to be another matter all together. Oh well I guess I'll wait.

I am in regular contact with people on the ground in Australia and New Zealand and I have decided to proceed with the planning for our down under adventure from mid January to mid February 2022. I'm not fully confident that it will happen but hope springs eternal.

Are you doing an independent tour of Australia and New Zealand  or going on an escorted tour?

We are booked on Tauck's tour mid Nov 2021.  Like you we are unsure it will go.

Do they have a opera house?
Sydney is in New South Wales but I’ll google Cape Breton for you

Sorry Chili Sydney Nova Scotia (Cape Breton is part of Nova Scotia) was founded in 1785, 3 years before the one in NSW. The don't have an Opera House as such but they do have a giant fiddle 😁

The trip starts in Auckland for 2 days before our 14 Day Auckland to Sydney Cruise in Celebrity Eclipse. From there we have put together a road trip which includes stops in NSW and Victoria. We hope to meet with several friends we have met on CC. We have booked stops based on what is a comfortable driving distance and some are two night stays. We aren't keen on coach tours so the self drive for us was the way to go (even though they drive on the wrong side of the road😁)

I did a quick look ,looks like a lovely place. Especially the deciduous trees.

I will have to get there after all this is over.

Our Sydney Just has boring dark green gum trees, lots of things that want to sting you bight you plus extreme heat.

But we have some of the best beer,we need it to replace those body fluids on a 50C day. It’s usually us or the Germans that drink the most beer.

And we have the best cruise terminal on the best harbour.

Yes, part of being a NZer is that we are definitely not Australian.  Although most have cousins on each side of the Tasman.

😎Hi Folks,

Agree - it's great to see a forum for Canadian interests - regardless where/whom they are from.

We had a 37-Day SA cruise booked for last November.

We have rebooked a similar cruise for Nov/22. They are also offering the cruise for this Nov/21, but we felt we'd wait until 2022 - hopefully things have settled down by then!!

Sydney is definitely my favourite harbour in the World. Back in 1977/78, we used to dock at OPT every 2 weeks. Spent 3 days at White Bay last February.

With respect to beer, must admit when we were alongside for 3 days last year I noted a huge improvement with lots more craft.micro beers. Mind you, they still have a way to catch up with the West Coast from BC down to San Diego.

Metro Vancouver alone has about 100 craft breweries. Most places on the West Coast have great selections of breweries. Don't drink any of that yellow liquid from multi-nationals.

So I was told when we did east coast of USA and Canada on Aurora in 2015. Yes Sydney, Nova Scotia is pristine.

If you get down to Darling Harbour in Sydney there are several craft breweries, well worth a visit. You can catch a ferry there from OPT, not far.

Thanks for the suggestion. Most likely we will be at White Bay again in 2023, but only for 2 days this time. Planning a group tour to Blue Mountains day 1 and The Rocks/Darling Harbour pub/brewery crawl on day 2.

Hard to believe how Darling Harbour has changed from the 70's.
