The decision of whether or not to get the drinks package for your cruise is always a tricky one. To further confuse matters, MSC Cruises has introduced five new drinks packages for 2021 and 2022 cruises. Plus, they’ve removed all of the drinks package prices from their website! They will adjust prices according to the season.

There are five different packages to choose from. So let’s take a look at what’s included in each, compare the prices and pick the best one.

MSC Cruises offers five different drinks packages:

  1. Easy Package
  2. Easy Plus Package (was called Premium)
  3. Premium Extra Package (was called Premium Plus)
  4. Alcohol-Free Package (was called Non-Alcoholic)
  5. Minors Package (was called Non-Alcoholic Child)

The new drinks package names apply to cruises departing in November 2021 onwards.

MSC Cruises no longer publish the prices of drinks package on the website. Instead, guests are asked to log in to see the prices for their cruise. This makes things tricky for people who want to know how much the drinks package costs before they book a cruise.

The pricing for MSC beverage packages has always been a little complicated because you will pay in pounds sterling, US dollars or Euros depending on where you live. There are different prices depending on where in the world your ship departs from. In the future, there may also be different prices for summer and winter cruises.

To give you a rough idea of the prices of MSC drinks packages in 2021 and 2022, I have included a table of the old drinks package prices for cruises departing before November 2021. New drinks packages for winter 2021 and 2022 cruises will cost about 10% more than this.

Old MSC drink package prices until November 2021

(Add 10% to these prices for cruises departing November 2021 onwards)

Mediterranean, Europe, Emirates, Antilles, Cuba Caribbean & North America South America
Easy £27 / $35 / €29 £27 / $35 / €29 £27 / $35 / €29
Premium £36 / $47 / €39 £45 / $62 / €52 £41 / $56 / €47
Premium Plus £51 / $62 / €55 £57 / $79 / €66 £48 / $65 / €55
Non-Alcoholic £17 / $23 / €19 £21 / $28 / €24 £18 / $25 / €21
Non-Alcoholic (Child) £12 / $17 / €14 £12 / $17 / €14 £12 / $17 / €14
For MSC Grand Voyages, the price is based on the port of embarkation.

NEW MSC drink package prices (November 2021 onwards)

While MSC Cruises hasn’t published any prices for the new drinks packages, cruisers with winter 2021 and 2022 bookings who have logged into their MSC accounts have reported that the prices have increased by around 10%.

How much are MSC drinks packages in 2021 and beyond?

MSC drink packages prices for European cruises in winter 2021 are approximately:

  • Easy Package: $38 / £27 per day
  • Easy Plus Package: $49 / £35 per day
  • Premium Extra Package: $69 / £50 per day
  • Alcohol-Free Package: $25 / £18 per day
  • Minors Package: $19 / £14 per day

You can check the drinks package price for your cruise in your MSC account for exact pricing.

Drink package prices for Caribbean cruises may cost more, please refer to the table above as a guide.

What’s included in MSC drinks packages?

1. MSC Easy Drink Package

Previously all drinks  up to 6 euros were included in the easy package. The big question is whether this is still the case because it is not explicitly mentioned. Who knows the answer to this?

MSC Easy Drink Package Menu:

  • Draught beer (Heineken)
  • Selection of house wines by the glass
  • Selection of classic cocktails
  • Mixed drinks and non-alcoholic cocktails
  • Soft drinks and fruit juices by the glass
  • Bottled mineral water
  • Classic hot drinks (espresso, cappuccino, caffe latte, hot tea)

Drinks can be consumed in all bars, buffet, main dining room but NOT in speciality restaurants or the Starship Club.

This package offers great value for money and is ideal if you’re on a budget and happy to stick with drinking draft Heineken, the same wines or choosing from a small list of cocktails.

2. MSC Easy Plus Drink Package

This package includes all drinks priced up to $9 or €8.

MSC Easy Plus Drink Package Menu:

  • Variety of draught and bottled beers
  • Selection of wines by the glass
  • Variety of frozen and classic cocktails
  • Non-alcoholic cocktails
  • Well spirits
  • Liqueurs and cordials
  • Soft drinks
  • Mineral water
  • Coffee drinks (latte, espresso, cappuccino, etc.)
  • Hot chocolate and hot teas
  • 10% discount on bottles of wine purchased on board

With the Premium package, drinks can be consumed in all bars (except the Starship Club on MSC Virtuosa), buffet and the main dining room as well as speciality restaurants. This is an important difference from the Easy package, which doesn’t allow you to order drinks in speciality restaurants.

If you plan to dine in a few speciality restaurants during our cruise, this deal is probably a better choice than the Easy drinks package.

3. MSC Premium Extra Drink Package

This package includes all drinks priced up to $15 or €13.

MSC Premium Extra Drink Package Menu:

  • Selection of draught, craft and bottled beers
  • Entire selection of wines and champagne by the glass
  • Extensive variety of frozen and classic cocktails
  • Premium brand spirits
  • Liqueurs and cordials
  • Sodas
  • Fruit juices
  • Energy drinks
  • Mineral water
  • Coffee (latte, espresso, cappuccino, etc.)
  • Hot chocolate and teas
  • 25% discount on wine and champagne bottles purchased on board

Drinks can be consumed in all bars (except the Starship Club on MSC Virtuosa), buffet, main dining room and speciality restaurants. It doesn’t however, include drinks in the onboard Lavazza coffee shops and other signature venues.

The old Premium Plus drink package also included drinks from your minibar. However, there’s no mention of the minibar being included in the new Premium Extra package, so be careful!

4. MSC Alcohol-Free Drink Package

MSC Alcohol-Free Drink Package Menu:

  • Wide choice of alcohol-free cocktails
  • Sodas
  • Energy drinks
  • Mineral water
  • Flavoured water
  • Fruit juices
  • Coffee drinks (latte, espresso, cappuccino, etc.)
  • Soft drinks
  • Hot chocolate
  • Hot teas
  • Soft-serve ice cream

Drinks can be consumed in all bars (except the Starship Club on MSC Virtuosa), buffet, main dining room but NOT speciality restaurants.

5. MSC Minors Drink Package

This package is for children aged 3 to 17 on European cruises and aged 3 to 20 on North American and Caribbean cruises.

MSC Minors Drink Package Menu:

  • Wide choice of alcohol-free cocktails
  • Sodas
  • Energy drinks
  • Mineral water
  • Flavoured water
  • Fruit juices
  • Coffee drinks (latte, espresso, cappuccino, etc.)
  • Soft drinks
  • Hot chocolate
  • Hot teas
  • Soft-serve ice cream

Drinks can be consumed in all bars (except the Starship Club on MSC Virtuosa), buffet, main dining room but NOT speciality restaurants.

I’m not sure that YC guests will get the new Premium Extra - they don’t get the Premium+ now and I don’t see MSC upgrading to that. In fact it will be a real downgrade (as are all the new drinks packages relative to the current ones).

Another problem with MSC’s drinks packages is that the items they cover differ according to the region in which you’re sailing.

MSC drink package prices have increased since they began to employ managers from other cruise lines, at one time they were real value for money but by reducing availability while increasing prices makes them less so, the Downgrade of Aurea to Easy drink package was the worst Backward step MSC have made so far in their quest to match the other cruise lines.

I've seen Aurea will be getting Easy Plus once the ships switch to the new packages.  Canadian FAQ:

What drink package is included in the Aurea Experience?

The Easy Plus Package will be included for all cruises booked with the Aurea Experience.

YC currently has a $12/€10 limit around the ship and gets a few better choices inside the YC.  So it's basically the Premium package with a minibar benefit.  As I mentioned above it looks like Aurea will be getting Easy Plus so I'm pretty sure YC will be getting the equivalent of Premium Extra with a $15/€13 limit around the ship and should still get the internal YC benefits.

What is notable is the loss of the very high end drinks from any package because Premium Plus will be terminated.  On the comparison charts of Summer vs. Winter there is the loss of an entire page's worth of drinks from the packages - all lost from the elimination of the high end drinks from any package.

For the UK premier drinks package , can you order  the theme drinks from the pub , tapas bar etc that are under the £10 limit without ordering food ? - can you stop for a drink in the tapas bar and or off their drinks menu but use the package ? Also , are any of the drinks in the champagne bar on the package or is the whole bar off limits or pay as you go ?
cheers

Interesting note on this one @Até. I checked my booking for my October 2022 sailing and it shows my Aurea experience as including the "Easy" package. I'll have to keep an eye on this on and see if it changes closer to the sail date. Thanks for the heads up!

I did a little math for our household and realized I'd have to drink like a fish for any one of these packages to be worth it for me.  Even the alcohol free package.

It's a better economic fit for us to buy our coffees, bottles of water and cold drinks one at a time rather than go the Costco route.

I always drink Prosecco and Aperol in the champagne bar so yes there are options under £10.

Great stuff Maikell, thanks. I do like to make a sort of cost comparison for the wife and I for the non-alcoholic pkg. But, the real decision is how much is it worth (or how much do we short ourselves dollar wise) to make it feel like an all inclusive. Her thing is specialty coffee’s so I guess we’re a go.  Bring on the Latte(s), and vanilla chocolate swirl.

I'm going Sept 2, 2021 to the Caribbean from Port Canaveral.   I'm having trouble finding the cost and what's provided in the drink packages on the MSC site.  I drink gin and tonics, manhattans, old fashions and martinis.  Well liquors are fine.  So, what package should I get since "mixed drinks" is ambiguous.

We are September 2021 from Miami on Mera and intend to purchase the Easy Package. If I go onto the site and pull up our cruise, across the top is a strip that includes "beverages" and from there you can choose what package you want. Unfortunately the "upgraded easy package" is not yet in effect. Other MSC cruises I have booked (February and April and September 2022) were do so with the "all in" choice and they do now say "Easy Plus." Hope this helps a little, at least where to find the Beverage Info.

September 2nd from PC would be Divina which doesn't switch over to the new packages until October 31st, so you would have the Summer package lists from my post #7 above.  In the past MSC used the term "mixed drinks", but now seems to prefer the term "Classic Cocktails" for describing the Easy package.  The difference is a little ambiguous but "mixed drinks" for the Easy package was defined as "house brand spirits with soda or juice" so some of your choices would officially be out of bounds for the Easy package.  Your upgrade choices would be to Premium or Premium Plus, Premium should easily meet your needs.

I'll assume you did not book the All-In rate that includes the Easy package.  So to purchase separately, if you pre-pay, the Easy package is $38 per person per day, Premium is $62pp/day and Premium Plus is $79pp/day.   If you purchase on the ship they will add 15% gratuity to the package total cost (not per drink).

How can you possibly justify $17.00 a day for a child's drink package. $29.00 a day for an adult. At $2.50 for a soda you would need to drink 12 cans a day. Prices for these are way out of wack. $8.50 per day on Carnival for an adult soda package.

Bottomless bubbles on Carnival is soda. It is not a non-alcoholic drink package like MSC’s which included coffee, ice cream, non alcoholic mixed drinks and soft ice cream .... big difference .

About to do my first cruise after upgrading to PPlus. I never usually bother but the £ prices are higher than usual and some drinks I like are no longer under the P ceiling!

Will be in YC in April so it definitely sounds like a downgrade to PExtra which is a shame.
