Guides to Ports

Hi, please can someone remind me of the name of the man who writes the excellent cruise port guides I have seen referenced on the P&O board several times before.  We used them on our last trip I recall, I thought it was something like Pete's Cruise Ports Guides, but I have obviously got the name wrong and Google is not helping me here!  Thank you.

I think you mean Toms Port Guides.

However his website seems corrupt but there is some reference on Facebook although not recent.

I've used Peter Dagnell's cruise guides before - very useful. Contact him through the social network that cannot be named!

I have used 'Tom's Port Guides' a lot and have links saved for some ports.  Are you suggesting their is a problem with him running the site (it always seemed up front to me ), or that there are issues and the site is not working properly at present?

Like you, I have used Toms guides in the past but the link I have used before does not work. This is the link I have used in the past.

Would appreciate if you can find out what has happened.

See the links I posted earlier in the thread, these seem to work.

I see your point and I found his FB page which seems to have had no activity, even from other posters since 2019 (I think middle of that year).  I hope Tom is ok and in good health.

That is a useful link to Peter Dagnall's port guides - thank you.

"Tom's Port Guides" are a different thing though and not P&O based.  He is American if I remember correctly and had an extremely comprehensive website for many ports around the world, which does not now seem to be working.

Thanks, I know of both them, got them muddled up, I've used both and are very good I think.

I didn't realise that Tom's Guides were no longer available

Thanks everyone, yes, it was Tom's Port Guides I had forgotten the name of.  I'm sorry to hear they may no longer be available and I hope all is well with Tom.

Thanks for the tip re Peter Dagnell, I will take a look.

Well I found a page on FB which was his and even had his picture, but otherwise could not access any of his guides apart from sites which had copies of various pages from his website, but they could not be used to access his site.  As Brian said if anyone can turn up any more please let us know.  It would be worth paying to access some of his guides for some ports as they were very good, with lots of details/maps.

Is this what you were looking for?

Thanks for the link, I have bookmarked it for future use.

I have used Toms Port Guides many times and found them very useful.  I had the ones I needed downloaded on my tablet and was able to share the information with people on our dining room table.

I hope all is well with Tom and thank him for all the work that has gone into the guides.

Ooh very good for a newbie! 😉 It took me a couple of years to find that site!
It does seem to be laid out differently to before. I’ve bookmarked it, thanks.

I'm used to my mum using me as her own personal search engine 🤣 I like a challenge

I know what you mean! I often say to John ‘I suppose I’ve got to organise all this’ and he replies ‘but you love it’ and mostly I do 😊

That could be a conversation here too! I do love organising although I have to say my husband is a right one for holiday itineraries.

My mum will phone me from a traffic jam to ask me if I know what the hold up is 😄

Tom's Port Guides

Solent Richard also has a comprehensive blog giving details of quite a number of ports worldwide.

Thank you for that. I'm friendly with Tom Sheridan on facebook. He does very detailed guides at...

If anyone can't find what they want, or wish to do something different, then yes, mine are also available...

There is a search engine if you don't immediately see the port you require. My latest review was for Port Elizabeth, South Africa...

Thanks again @Britboys

Tom's complete website, including all the PDFs is available from the web archive.org site:

https://web.archive.org/web/20200507004112/https://www.tomsportguides.com/port-guides.html

They are simply the best guides available for practical information about ports.  Hopefully, Tom's real site will come back online soon and that he will continue making these guides, now that cruising is slowly resuming.
