Cruisinita Posted May 3, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 3, 2004 We are going on a cruise out of NY that leaves on a Thursday. Has anyone has any parking issues. Read that the secured parking may be full because of cruises that leave on the weekend. Any info is greatly appreciated. Crazy about cruising Posted May 3, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 3, 2004 I've cruised out of NY three times and parked at the pier twice. Never had a problem as far as getting a space. Sometimes there is a special event going on at the Intrepid the same day as cruise ships are leaving they will close off the enterance to the parking level to prevent non-cruise cars from parking. This happened to me the first time and I panicked big time. If that happens there should be someone from the NYPST nearby. Tell them you're going on a cruise and and they will let you up to the parking level. Remember also there will be people coming off the ship the day you are leaving and that will free up some of the parking spots. Have a great time on your cruise. pgmrdev Posted May 3, 2004 #3 Share Posted May 3, 2004 It's cheaper to park on the Jersey side at the NY Waterways Ferry and take the ferry across. It puts you off at 38th and 12th. You can walk from there or take their bus up 12th. When you return you can also do the same. I've never had a problem with their lot. Have parked their dozens of times.

Grand Princess 2-2001 Grand Princess 12-2001 Carnival Paradise 3-2002 Carnival Destiny 10-2002 Golden Princess 10-2003 Carnival Legend 6-8-2004

tlynnie Posted May 3, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 3, 2004 pgmrdev, we're planning to do the waterways ferry ourselves, it is a reasonable walk (with rolling luggage) from 38th St.? I think I'd prefer to just walk it rather than deal with a a bus, assuming it's not 100° that day! pgmrdev Posted May 3, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 3, 2004 We did walk it ourselves last October when we went out on Princess. It is not a bad walk, less than 10 blocks. And we wheeling our luggage. As you indicated, it was easier than contending with a crowded bus.

Grand Princess 2-2001 Grand Princess 12-2001 Carnival Paradise 3-2002 Carnival Destiny 10-2002 Golden Princess 10-2003 Carnival Legend 6-8-2004

[This message was edited by pgmrdev on 05-03-04 at 09:39 PM.]
OhioBeachBum Posted May 3, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 3, 2004 120 BLOCKS! Do you run marathons? Grab a cab or a bus or a limo - you'll be worn out by the time you hit the ship! Loved the Miracle 4/12/04 Great, now I'm hooked!
cometsmom Posted May 3, 2004 #7 Share Posted May 3, 2004 We parked at the pier last year in July and plan to do so again. I called the number listed on the NYPST website to ask the guy what happens if we get there and there are no spots. In what I would say was a typical New Yorker's sigh, he basically said that if I had a ticket to get on that boat, there would be a spot! They can't guarantee it but he assured me, "not to worry lady" - for some reason, I feel like he's probably right! If we get there and there are no spots, it's off to the airport and take a cab back I guess! That should add to the excitement of the day!
