Vacationv Posted June 1, 2021 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2021 Has anyone cruised Iceland in the summer before? Should we be concerned about heavy seas on the cruises that circle Iceland this summer? Thanks Rick
CruiserBruce Posted June 3, 2021 #2 Share Posted June 3, 2021 There can be heavy seas anytime, anywhere, and they are not predictable more than a few days in advance. If you have issues with seasickness, you need to be prepared every time you are on a ship.
IWantToLiveOverTheSea Posted June 4, 2021 #3 Share Posted June 4, 2021 I haven't looked at it yet, but windy.com was mentioned as a decent site to check in advance of, or on, your cruise.
Nitemare Posted June 8, 2021 #4 Share Posted June 8, 2021 Hurricanes that skirt the east coast of the US sometimes end up reaching Iceland. Probably 1/4 to 1/3 the chance of NYC having heavy waves. I wouldn't cruise to Iceland because Iceland is so easy to do on your own and much more fun to see with just a very small group than with a whole cruiseship full of people
IWantToLiveOverTheSea Posted July 4, 2021 #5 Share Posted July 4, 2021 Viking Ocean is cruising now. Nobody has reported any bad conditions. And it's (gasp!) been very sunny for the past week and a half! But of course, things could change!

The last week and a half's weather has absolutely nothing to do with the next week's or the next month's weather.
WriterOnDeck Posted July 4, 2021 #7 Share Posted July 4, 2021 On the 2019 Voyage of the Vikings we had heavy seas returning from Norway to Iceland -- lots of dishes went crashing in the Lido. About like a typhoon we skirted between Japan and China once. Just part of cruising, imho. I've never been concerned for my safety.

Bingo. It snowed heavily in about half the country in Mid-June (last month) and that "never happens". And last week folks were wearing shorts, which is also rare.
IWantToLiveOverTheSea Posted August 24, 2021 #9 Share Posted August 24, 2021 We didn't have anything the least bit rough on our 8 day circumnavigation of Iceland on Aug.
CruiserBruce Posted August 28, 2021 #10 Share Posted August 28, 2021 Just a piece of info...B-i-L and S-i-L are sailing around Iceland right now. First two days...windy, rainy, pretty heavy seas. They spent 3 days in advance in Reykjavik...cloudy, cool, some rain.
