Hair Straighteners

I know and understand why straighteners are not allowed on a ship, but are there any that would be permitted? 

 

I've always had short hair but during lockdown and no hairdresser it obviously has grown longer than I've ever worn it before.  I was going to get it cut but DH commented on how much he liked it this length and if truth be told, so do I.  It's a novelty.

 

However, because my hair is naturally very curly I've invested in a straightener brush (much easier for me to handle than tongs) and I'm going to miss it something dreadful while we are away.

 

What do other people do?

You can now get cordless battery powered straighteners or maybe gas hair straighteners that run on a very small gas cartridge they don't use any electric power and are effectively also cordless.

Gas should not be a problem on the cruse as the gas cartridge is very small but not sure about any flights involved, maybe buy refills locally after the flight?

Thanks for help. Not sure why it didn't occur to me to look for cordless straighteners. Can I blame the heat for being slightly slow this morning?  🤣

Didn't know hair straighteners were not allowed. Have always taken my curling tongs and never had a problem. Is it just certain cruise lines.

Just checked princess website and it doesn't say anywhere that hair straighteners are not allowed. Have you checked with your cruiseline. When we were on Cunard in 2017 and 2018 my niece had straighteners and she had no problem.

It seems to depends on the cruise line. Cunard don't mention straighteners but advise against hair dryers so by that I suspect the answer is no. Certainly irons and similar are a no across most if not all ships.  The problem is the fear of fire, one of the biggest concerns on a ship and that is why things like coffee makers and heat pads are frowned upon. The same with surge protectors.  We have a non-surge protector which we use on board to charge our kindles, phones, tablets. A quick Google search should tell you what is and isn't allowed. Personally I'd prefer to err on the side of caution.

Never had a problem with my electric curling tongs. Can understand irons as they do not want you ironing in your room. Watched Jane McDonald on sky princess and she had her electric curlers on the dressing table. Who are you sailing with, I know RCL can be strict but I took my curling tongs on a few years ago and they never said anything. If they didn't want you to use them why put electric sockets on the dressing table😁😁😁

When I go on a cruise I always take my GHD straighteners in my hand luggage (don't want them to be lost!) I don't try and hide them and never had a problem. 

Used them while cruising on Princess, P&O and Fred Olsen

I'm sailing with Cunard.  I think I might invest in a cordless brush straightener I've seen advertised.  It's smaller than the one I use at home and should, therefore, take up less room in my luggage.
