Odyssey cancelled through July 25

Are you just hanging out to tell everyone how wrong they were for booking cruise vacations?  You have mentioned multiple times that you don't have anything booked, and IIRC, you prefer Princess.

~ So we where able to Lift & Shift our cruise date ... took canceling our stay in Florida at the Embassy / as Well as having to Reschedule our Flights !

 

However ~ Adventure of the Seas . Here We Come

I also saw that even if you are vaccinated some island/ports may still ask for a negative test as with the Adventure of the Seas sailing.  
 

I don't believe that. They would not have been allowed to board the ship if they were not fully vaccinated.

I’m not sure the message is that people are “wrong” for booking a cruise, but rather if you do so in a process that continues to be in flux that refundable air, hotel and other expenses is advisable. Also a realistic viewpoint that cruises will continue to be disrupted, canceled or changed is essential. No one should really be surprised by cancellations and changes. It’s the name of the game these days.

I'm sure that the hotel /resort industry is seeing more demand since cruising is an uncertainty. My SIL and BIL have been canceled by Princess a few times along the way. They live in Florida and were able to book an airBnB on the water in Ft Myers. They live on the east coast. The place looks beautiful. They go to the Keys at least once a year but they were out priced this year even for an airBnB.  All these people with canceled cruises and flights to Florida are going to feed the Hotel industry.

Thank you.  I'm amazed how some think that the cruise lines should cover the added expense. On that note I also think that it was wrong that Royal didn't honor the cruise planner prices for those who were transferred over from one ship to another. One change was just the ship and not the embarkation port or itinerary.

They received the one-shot J&J. Most of the crew was vaccinated on June 4. There are also first-hand reports of some arriving later, getting vaccinated on June 11 and then boarding that day with a 14 day quarantine onboard at first.

Third-party insurance likely will not cover air fare because the airline will give you a voucher or allow you to re-book. In the eyes of the insurance company, you have been compensated. No claim.

 

I’m not familiar with Royal’s insurance, but I expect it to be similar. Others have said a2s is refundable. Royal may be willing to pay your re-booking fees if they are the ones to cancel.

This is a REALLY good point and one that travelers often miss. Even though in the eyes of a passenger, a FCC or voucher is "second best," in the eyes of an insurer, you ARE getting a refund, and they likely won't pay out. Ask me how I know this. Hint: it's happened to me before, albeit with a satisfactory outcome.

So in reality if you know the airlines will give you a credit you really shouldn't include the price of the flight when purchasing from a third party insurance company.

The good news:  For those who have casino comps for these cancelled Indy/OY cruises, it seems that they are offering some cruises for us to move our cancelled bookings to.

 

The bad news:  They are crappy 3/4/5 night cruises and my only options appear to be inside or OV rooms.  No thanks.

 

Has anyone had any luck getting any other transfer options ? I'm hoping that b/c we upgraded our comps to suites that they will let us transfer to a suite...but I don't know yet.

 

To check your transfer options just put in the cancelled reservation number instead of your C&A number.  This is the FIRST time this has ever worked for me.

Probably so except that some cancel-for-any-reason clauses require you to include all non-refundable expenses. I have not pursued that, but it sounds as if it might mean air as well.

 

We usually book with miles. There are a number of policies that will reimburse the fees for redepositing miles if you have to cancel.

Since we live within driving distance to Galveston we decided not to fly this fall.  We already will be losing some airfare this year as SW only extended our credit out so far for cruises canceled in 2020.  While it’s not the cruise we wanted it’s a cruise.  I will book a refundable hotel or at least up to a few days prior refundable.  It’s the way it has to be right now.  
 

Anyone who chooses to travel for the next few months had best be prepared to be flexible.  Last fall we had 2 trips planned for the same week of vacation.  When our cruise was canceled we had a back up planned. We too can’t change vacation dates with work.  It’s almost impossible to get in the first place. ( I get 4 weeks but guaranteed only 2 weeks per year and yes it’s time to retire. Only 1 year, 10 months, 17 days to go.)

 

Hoping the Odyssey goes off at the end of July!

I agree, cash refund. I looked at the replacement cruise offers from Club Royale and they are less than my original offer and also many are on cruises I have already booked from other offers.

Just watch Chris Wong's latest vlog. He was vaccinated on his second day onboard. While under quarantine they took  those that needed vaccination off the ship into the port building.  He got J&J.

I don't think taxes have anything to do with your cabin. Port taxes and fees are simply based on head count. It isn't like a sales tax linked to a percentage of the cost of the item.
