Hi,

I have a question about Suset beach. How secluded is the topless and nude beaches at this resort? What will be in view from the regular beach?

Just wondering.

We are considering going here in April.

We were just there last week, so I'll see if I can answer (or confirm) everything posted so far.

The beach is great and the property is fairly expansive. The nude section is definately set aside and they won't even let you venture into it if you don't intend on disrobing. The topless area is just the last stretch of beach before getting to the 'au natural' section. We didn't even realize we were in it at first. Just a small sign up in the grass saying "no cameras" separates it from the rest of the beach. If you have kids and don't wan't them catching an accidental eyeful (although it really wasn't a problem) head left along the beach as you're facing out to the ocean. This is also a nice little cove area guarded on either side by rock walls...a good barrier to tell the kids to stay between.

The new pool/water park area they added is pretty cool. Definately not a full blown water park, but they have two large water slides, a big pirate ship for kids, lazy river, and lots of hot tub areas...some of them are more private ones half-way up the tower to the slides. (You'll know when you're there).

$40 per person ($20 for kids) gets all food, drink, and water toys (snorkeling equip, kayaks, etc.). Also beach volleyball and I thought I saw a miniature golf course.

Just wondering...

I've seen that food and drink are included in the $40pp at Sunset Beach. Can you add some information regarding what food and drink is available? Is it a buffet or actual menu dining? How's the quality of the food? Also, are there lots of selections for the drinks or only a few included in the AI price?

It looks and sounds like a great day at the beach. We are considering visiting during our cruise in June. Thanks so much for your help!:)

We are going to MoBay in Oct and are considering doing the Sunset Beach as well. Do I just show up at the hotel and pay the $40. Did you take the cab there?

We just told the workers at the port terminal that we wanted to go to Sunset Beach and they got us a cab to go there with some other people. I think it was $3 per person each way and they dropped us right at the hotel gates where we just showed our cards and they directed us to the front desk where we paid for the day and got color-coded wristbands.

As for food and drink, there were at least 3 different bars along the beaches and pools, and maybe more inside the hotel areas. They have about 10-15 caribbean themed drinks posted at the bar, but made and served pretty much anything I heard anyone ask for. They had two different flavors of slush machines going for smoothies or virgin daquaries and also used these to make some of the frozen alcoholic drinks. (I think they were strawberry and lemon/lime, so if you drink stawberry daquaris or frozen lime margaritas, I guess they'd make them using the slush.) They also had some fresh fruit behind the bar and I saw quite a few people getting banana daquaris. They had brand name rums and tequilas, and a lot of other liquor and flavored mixers, but I couldn't tell you exactly what. At each bar there was also Red Stripe & Red Stripe Light beer on tap.

In addition to the alchohol, there was self-serve fountain soda, ice-cream, and popcorn machines right there. The open-air grill had jerk chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, grilled cheese?, fries, and possibly some type of cheese sticks or something. The buffet near the beach looked to be winding down when we ate there (possibly just before they were getting ready for dinner) and had salad, various pastas, some chinese food (noodles, chicken, etc), soup, breads, and a lot of desserts. It was about 1/2 full, so I don't know what they cleared out of there.

There are at least 2 other themed restaurants, which I beleive require you to reserve a seating time, but you'll want to check to website to verify that info. We didn't venture into those 2 because we were there to hang out by the water in our swimsuits. (As I said before, though, the buffet has posted that sleeved shirts are required, with no swimsuits, but there's a section to eat outside on tables, so I don't know if it was enforced.)

I think I answered about everything. The buffet wasn't great, and we didn't eat at the restaurants, but after all of the food on the cruise, what we got at the grill was perfect. I though the jerk chicken was pretty good. The ice cream machines were a welcome site (I miss them from the ship a lot...wish I could get one installed at work!) I'm not a big drinker at all so I didn't request them to make me anything special at the bar, but there was definately more than just a few drinks available. Some people said they were made very weak, but if you're sitting out in the sun all day, would you rather have 5 strong drinks and be hammered, or enjoy 20 different fruity concoctions and still be able to snorkel in a relatively straight line?

Have fun!

just got back from sunset beach...the price was well worth it. the drinks are strong...Im a light weight so I had to ask for wimpy drinks....have the dirty banana...it is a banana daq. and a mud slide swirled together....oh so good. The food is awesome. the jerk chicken is wonderful and the meat pies are great...had never had one before but they were good:)

the water slides were so much fun! I thought I would just hit the beach the whole day but spent lots of time at the waterpark as well. The staff was very friendly and the entire day was very enjoyable. Hope everyone has the same experience.

When we were at Sunset Beach Resort they were still building the waterpark. I'm thrilled at how nice it sounds. Our city just built up it's public pool into a small waterpark and the waterpark at Sunset sounds like it's just like the one the city built. It's not very big but big enough to still have lots of fun. I actually like it better than the larger water parks because it's easy to find each other and you don't get lost. I'm really excited about going to Sunset Beach Resort again!:D

Load Option, jerk chicken is chicken that's slow cooked in caribbean jerk seasonings until it almost falls off of the bone. We liked it so much that as soon as I got home I went to the store and bought a bottle of caribbean jerk seasoning so I could make some of it at home. :p It's delicious and a little spicy but not too spicy.

Pisces, yes you can snorkel from the shore at Sunset beach, the snorkel gear is even free to use and included in your price. We didn't snorkel when we were there last time, we were too busy on the kayaks and paddle boats, so I can't give you a report on the snorkeling. But I did see people using the snorkel gear they had available there.:)

Winmo concur with everything you said. We were there for 2nd time in Dec 05 and enjoyed the day but will probably do something else when we are there again in Dec 06.

I didn't like the buffet as much as the previous May but it was okay. Of course we went in just before they stopped serving so maybe some of the "choices" were gone. Plus I had filled up on jerk chicken earlier.

No complaints on the drinks. Just ask if you want more alcohol in a drink and take your own insulated mug to cut down on trips to bar. Those flimsy plastic cups drive me crazy!

The Lazy River part of the waterpark was ice cold and refreshing.

The outdoor grill/bar was being either expanded or rebuilt. Don't know.

Also, there is a large bathroom, shower area along the walkway by the small casino in the main part of the lobby. It was very clean the day we were there. Lots of room to change clothes if you need to.

Didn't care for the swim-up bar too much. People kept walking across the bar and one thonged-lady had her naked cheeks perched on it. While a visual feast for the men, my concern was what was left behind (no pun intended) on the bar.

The hot tub near the swim-up bar was filthy in Dec., clean the previous visit.

Also, my daughter-in-law paid with a credit card, no problem.

All in all, the resort is pretty good and a pleasant way to spend the day relaxing. The staff was friendly, food pretty good, drinks better and water cold.

I would definitely go back again and felt very safe the whole time inside the resort. No one selling anything inside, other than in the hotel shops.

With all the stuff to do at Sunset Beach, would taking a camcorder get in my way of having fun? I wanted to take some video but I also want to have fun without worrying about where I leave the camcorder.

What do you do with your belongings if you plan to do the pool or the slides?

Stunned is what I am, at the thought that you can get several hours at an all inclusive beach resort for only $40 per person. I know that excursions purchased through the cruise line are always a little more expensive, but the beach breaks RCCL shows on their site cost more than that and some are not even claiming to be all inclusive, much less offering a waterpark, a beach, lunch, etc.

This is as cheap as an all inclusive beach park in Cozumel.

So, just for clarification, a $3 dollar per person taxi ride (ask to go to sunset beach resort) gets you to the gates of the resort, you show your sea pass card (I guess cruise ship passengers get a discount) pay your $40 per person and all bar drinks, food at the buffet and water park and beach activities (Except, presumably motorized beach toys) are included for that price. Are any sort of reservations required? They accept credit cards? Cash in US Dollars? Pinch me and tell me that I've got this right! I was expecting to have to spend at least twice this much per person in Jamaica, based on everything I read prior to this thread.:D

Theotherchad,

Yes, it is true. We were just there a couple of weeks ago.

You just go thru the terminal at the port and tell the cab driver that you want to go to Sunset Beach Resort. He will try to talk you into somewhere else. It is 4o per person . Drinks, food, and a pretty decent set of slides. We felt totally safe and had a great day.

Does anyone remember who owns the hotel at Sunset Beach (Hyatt, Ramada, etc)?

Looking foward to our Conquest trip in September, and seem to be zeroing in on Sunset Beach for the Jamaica stop.

Thanks in advance.

I thought I remembered seeing somewhere where kids under (10-12??) are a little cheaper than the $40 bucks....Anybody know?

$40 bucks sounds like a good deal to me for the stuff you can do....

I had decided to take my group of 7 from the Conquest to Sunset Beach Resort for a day-pass after reading all of the great comments here. When I emailed them directly to verify the price I was told it was $60 for the pass. BIG difference. Does anyone know what gives with the change?:(
