mamaofami Posted June 26, 2021 #26 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Good morning everyone. Thank you for the birthday wishes. My daughter came last night with cake, balloons, birthday centerpiece and lots of love. It’s shaping up to be a nice day . Although there are showers predicted elsewhere, it has never ever rained on my birthday, wherever I am, so I’m looking forward to my birthday lunch outside. We visited Key West a few years ago on Sam’s birthday when we cruised to Cuba. Incredibly, it did start to rain that day and we hailed a taxi to return to the ship. The driver grew up in our new home town in NJ. Such a small world. And , now the sun has come out. I’ve been told that Sam ordered flowers for me with a bit of help from my daughter. Mtn2Sea Posted June 26, 2021 #31 Share Posted June 26, 2021 We’ve been to Key West a couple of times while on the Ryndam. Spent the day just walking around town. One time we stopped at the Hemingway House and another time we spent an hour or so at the Fisher Museum. 32

cunnorl Posted June 26, 2021 #35 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Good Morning Everyone from a warm and sunny day at the beach Love boats of all types so a canoe will be just fine! Been to Key West many times only once on a cruise. It is a different type of place. Strange thing was I did not enjoy it as much from the cruise, better as a land based trip. Just returned from dropping my niece at the airport. She was only here for a couple of days but it was so much fun. She is scheduled to work tonite! Youth.. I will see her again in August when I go up to Massachusetts. @mamaofami A very Happy Birthday to you. Hope you enjoy your special day! Stay safe and enjoy today
Cruising-along Posted June 26, 2021 #36 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Good morning all! Sitting with my iced coffee and fan at 7am -- heading for 93 today, 100 tomorrow and 106 on Monday 😞 This heat is breaking all records here in the PNW. I'm so happy to see that the Eurodam is in Piraeus, where we will be boarding in less than 3 months!! I think beauticians were probably the most appreciated of anyone when we could finally see them again after months of salons being closed. Forgiving is necessary but sometimes difficult. Haven't been in a canoe, but have kayaked a few times -- once on our first cruise (Alaska). @mamaofamiHappy Birthday! @kazuI'm chuckling over your gardening tip. When I send DH for gardening supplies I have to send him with a photo of what I need. 😉 He's learned a lot over the years, but still needs help lol. We've been to Key West only once, in 2017 on a BHB. The main thing I wanted to see was the Hemingway House (the cats, of course). Not being beach or bar people, we just walked there, and then took a Ghosts and Graveyards tour. It was as funky as it sounds. A little blurry, it was hard to catch him sitting still. We visited this museum as part of the tour "Robert the Doll", supposedly haunted 😉 Our guide, in costume and makeup 29
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted June 26, 2021 #37 Share Posted June 26, 2021 (edited) Good morning from central Texas. I'm not sure what the weather is going to do, but the clouds are moving in and there is a strong south wind. We could get some rain next week. 🤞 I tried paddling a canoe once at summer camp, way back in the dark ages, but I found the canoe and I were not meant for each other. Beauticians are definitely to be celebrated, except the three that gave me the worst haircuts ever (worse even than the ones I gave myself this past year). Those three I forgave, but did not go back to them. My beautician, who retired last year, had a sign on her station, "I'm a beautician, NOT a magician". The meal sounds good, but it's hard to get good lobster in central Texas. I think it will be the salmon I planned for yesterday. I'll pass on the drink, but the wine, for the price, might be good. Joan Rovers was good with one-liners and had a quick wit. @mamaofami 💐🌹 HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎂🎈🥂 Enjoy your lunch. We've have been to Key West several times by ship and once on a land trip. We visited Truman's Little White House and the Fisher Museum, and walked by Hemingway's house. Of course, we've also gone to see Sloppy Joe's Bar. Our go to place, is a key lime pie company for a slice of pie and some to take back to the ship. Our last two visits were by cruise ship, both in 2002. For some reason, I did not take many pictures when we were there on the old Noordam, and I did not take any later that year when we were there on the Rhapsody of the Seas. The rest of my pictures are pre-digital. @summer slope, @Mtn2Sea, @Cruising-along and @sailingdutchy Thank you for posting your pictures. Here are the pictures I took in 2002, and all but one are from the ship. Lenda Edited June 26, 2021 by Quartzsite Cruiser
grapau27 Posted June 26, 2021 #38 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Thank you for the daily and care reports. This is a unique and lovely thing to do every day. It is 57°F cold, misty and wet day here. Happy birthday to Carol @mamaofami. Nice selection of meals and drinks. Pauline has been to the hairdresser's today. We have been to Orlando many times but never been to Key West which was a haunt of Ernest Hemingway. As regular churchgoers we try to be forgiving people. The church in my avatar is our church where we got married 40years ago in August. Paulines late mam and dad got married here 68 years ago. Both Pauline's parents funeral services were here and our Reverend David did the funeral services for my mam and dad. We are sitting having a snack at the beach car park and the sea mist is making it difficult to see the sea. WIshing everyone a lovely day. Graham.
JazzyV Posted June 26, 2021 #39 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Good morning. Thanks for the Daily. Good days. We need beauticians and should try to always forgive. I've never been in a canoe. The meal sounds good. I'll pass on the drink, but take the wine. I have not been to today's port, although I've been in Florida several times. The heat and humidity is starting up, although not as bad as out west. I've already been out to water the plants. @mamaofami Happy Birthday! Prayers for the care list and cheers for the celebration list. Stay safe everyone.
Rare puppycanducruise Posted June 26, 2021 #40 Share Posted June 26, 2021 @kazuI totally understand your dilemma with your DH and gardening. A few years ago, my husband thought he would help me out and weed a small patch of the garden for me. Unfortunately, he dug up up a bunch of strawberry plants that I had planted the summer before and hadn't matured enough to fruit. Now he sticks to mowing the lawn and weed whacking along the fence.🙂 14

Rare POA1 Posted June 26, 2021 #43 Share Posted June 26, 2021 When we went to the gym (actual one with weights and stuff) yesterday, we saw a bunch of banners and flags arrayed on the security desk at our building. They were supplied by PE and the FTL Chamber of Commerce. There were two different sizes of flags and 7 colors. Big canvas banners were also available. These banners were serious, heavy plasti-canvas, UV resistant banners, with grommets*. By the time we finished our workouts, the banners were gone, but we got a sweet, sweet, selection of flags. (Photo to come later. My professional hand model is at the beach.) This is probably really boring for all of you. But, to those of us who wave at departing cruise passengers and ships, it's a godsend. We used to stand up and wave at people on the ships as they passed by. Now we stand up, waving flags, at people as they sail out of port. Game changer. You might think to yourself, "Self, this man is easily amused." To that I say, "Absolutely! But how dare you assume my gender." Don't know if you could hear it on the webcam, but there was an all-ship hornfest** at 10:45 AM EDST. The Edge's captain started and everyone else followed. ================== * Grommets are always cool. ** Get your mind out of the gutter. These are ships' horns. 28

kplady Posted June 26, 2021 #46 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Good morning! Happy birthday @mamaofamiCarole - your balloons and flowers were beautiful, and I hope your day is a very special one! It's been a busy morning here - had to sign some papers for a loan, and then went to Lowe's to pick up a new drill for DH (his old one died). Not much else planned for the day, it's kind of gray and damp today. We've been to Key West in 2017 on the Oosterdam. We took a tour of the city to see what was there, and of course went to the southernmost point of the US. We drove past Hemingway's house but did not go in. We did enjoy the Butterfly Conservatory, Sloppy Joe's and a slice of key lime pie on a stick dipped in chocolate at Kermit's! I can see why a vacation here would be good as we didn't have time to see very much. Have a great day today, stay cool as possible! StLouisCruisers Posted June 26, 2021 #49 Share Posted June 26, 2021 Hi to all! Busy day already. The game was first of the day, windy day with sunshine, mixed with dreary clouds. Rain will appear later. Today the Tigers won 3-2 with one goal scored by DGS. These teams are tough to beat since they are all champions in their state. Yesterday's team was from Nebraska, today's was northern Ohio. Tomorrow will be a nail biter because the Kansas team they will play is winning easily. My blood pressure may not be able to take it! Today three of my late sister Nancy's kids came out to watch DGS play. They are all sports nuts and enjoyed it, but I think that is so sweet of them to do that. DGS is lucky to have relatives living here to add to his entourage!😉 @mamaofamiHappy Birthday wishes to you. Nice flowers and balloons! Enjoy your special day.🌷🎈🎉
