Skagway, Alaska has been a popular stop for cruise ships since the 1980s and the crews of those ships seemingly wasted no time adding their graffiti to the massive rock wall rising over the Railroad Dock as did freighter crews before them since at least the 1930s. The quality of the artwork ranges from angry man with a spray can to detailed graphics worthy of a billboard. Last week’s visit to Skagway by the Celebrity Millennium was the first ship to arrive in Skagway since last year’s shutdown and the crew put together the materials necessary to commemorate it on this trip. We saw a boom lift on the dock as we went into town and by the time we got back, the breaking of the long cruise drought had been officially noted with a shiny new graphic on the stone face of the cliff.
