On the really long post about new protocols, post #381 -

  • March 3, 2008

I’m on Vista. Captain just announced mask policy is effective immediately. There are positive Covid passengers and they are all vaccinated passengers with little or no symptoms. Smoking will be prohibited inside everywhere.

Just some observations….

I was on the Horizon July 24-Aug 1st.  Our Facebook group has posted over 10 cruisers on our cruise that have tested positive for COVID since they’ve returned home and many more have symptoms and are in the process of getting tested.  Everyone that posted that they or their spouse has tested positive all state that they were fully vaccinated.

The Horizon was pretty packed (I heard 80% capacity) and there was no social distancing at all.  The shows, buffet, MDR, bars, comedy clubs were all packed with guests side by side.

There were a good number of young kids on the ship and 99% of the time they were not wearing masks indoors (especially in the elevators).

In the MDR they would pack guests next to each other at the same table when there was plenty of open seats to allow for distancing and I’m sure this was because their wait staff would have too much room to cover.

This cruise was loaded with Casino guests and smoking was unbearable in the casino.

The ship had problems with the HVAC in many areas (buffet near Blue Iguana, the stateroom hallways on some areas, the casino) and there was inadequate cooling/ventilations.

There was no active encouragement of hand washing or sanitizer use.  A few machines hear and there but no workers encouraging the use.  And of course your stateroom had that horrible bar soap that is no fun to use after day 2 because it’s a sticky slimy mess so I imagine that doesn’t encourage hand washing.

The buffet was a free for all and you could serve yourselves with shared utensils (well except the bacon, cakes at lunch and the prime rib, they dolled that out).

I personally witnessed many guests getting off the ship and on the ship (in port) without abiding by the mask policy even when told to mask these guests ignored the staff.  I can’t imagine how the staff will have to handle mandatory masks in more areas.

I witnessed several guests on the ship actively coughing in the MDR and other indoor areas of the ship in front of staff and nothing was ever said.

I would bet my house that it started from unvaxxed kids and passed to vaxxed passengers. If there are no symptoms on the vaxxed passengers, there is no need to even test them to find out. Carnival is about to face the nightmare they didn't want by having to be far more restrictive and far less enjoyable. I know my place of work just put out a travel warning. The biggest part is if traveling to any destination that is Level 3 or higher on the CDC list, you have to self quarantine for 10-days upon return. This just went into affect Monday. I got home from FL on Saturday. The entire US is at Level 3 and pretty much anywhere people would vacation. This means everyone traveling has to self quarantine after any vacation.

I am starting to worry out cruise in November is going to force us to cancel. Carnival still has a chance to get things right: No unvaxxed, no smoking at all, limit capacity, explicit directions on masks and masks that are certified. If they don't do it soon (this weekend or next), they could be facing a shutdown again.

I knew they wouldn’t enforce masks for the unvaccinated. Now we all have to wear them. They should’ve gone 100% vaccinated.

Always remember, positive doesn't mean sick

Positive does mean you cannot fly. If you didn't drive, you have to quarantine for 10-days. You have to find a facility that will take you. You have to fight with your insurance company to get repaid. You have to assume all expenses. Good luck on any of that. The insurance company has it easy...DENIED!!! They have no incentive to pay and can drag it out for years.

You mean all those kids who had to be tested prior to getting on the ship...

Yes because the tests are not accurate enough and there is no need to test vaxxed passengers with ZERO symptoms. Would you put your house up that the spread started from vaxxed passengers?

Cruise lines have contracted hotels that will accept quarantine guests. Carnival will give you a list to choose from if you need it.

Insurance will cover it under trip interruption up to the limits of the policy, but it may not be enough to cover all expenses. The incentive is that they are obligated to pay valid claims. It depends on the terms of the policy.

I was on the Vista on the same dates as you were on the Horizon, and exactly everything you said happened on our cruise as well! Our FB grp is also reporting 9+ positives since returning.

I would in a heartbeat. What is more likely... kids making up less than 5% of the passengers who ALL got tested prior to boarding had enough inaccurate tests to start an "outbreak" or did it  come from the 95% vaccinated passengers who weren't tested prior to boarding. Vaccinated  people can still get and transmit COVID.

My husband and I plan to get tested on Friday even if we are asymptomatic just to be cautious.  I learned one person in our excursion to Catalina Island tested positive today.  We all took a bus to the excursion point and many on the bus didn’t wear masks even though all of the islands required masking indoors and on transportation.

Yeah, I am going by the facts of the person that is living this from the Breeze. Carnival handed them a list of hotels to call and most numbers have no answer.

I guess you never filed an insurance claim. Good luck with that. They may be contracted to pay you, but there are going to be 1,000s of hoops to jump through, delays, denials, arguments. If you file in 2021, you may settle on 50% of what you are due in 2023.

You realize that you can test everyone the moment before they step on a ship - and 12 hours later someone can be symptomatic, right? And the experts are calling this a "pandemic of the unvaccinated", right? I wouldn't bet that house so quickly.
