Rare NutsAboutGolf Posted August 14, 2021 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2021 (edited) You're supposed to wear pants but its rarely enforced. I was on the 7/24 Edge sailing, on Chic night you'd see a party dressed to the nines in gowns and tuxes then behind them a guy in a cowboy hat and shorts, all got seated. Same on my 2019 Solstice cruise, no enforcement of the dress code. Edited August 14, 2021 by NutsAboutGolf
Rare Jim_Iain Posted August 14, 2021 #4 Share Posted August 14, 2021 FAQ -- What is the onboard dress code? Formal Night gets a modern reboot. Say goodbye to Formal Night, and hello to Evening Chic. It’s your time to shine—your way. Get glamorous. Get chic. Be sophisticated. Now, on up to two nights on every cruise, Evening Chic activities have been introduced, and Evening Chic attire has replaced Formal attire. While dressier than Smart Casual, Evening Chic is intended to be less dressy than Formal attire. Women should feel comfortable wearing: A cocktail dress Skirt, pants or designer jeans with an elegant top Men should feel comfortable wearing: Pants or designer jeans with a dress shirt, button-down shirt or sweater Optional sport coat or blazer Evening Chic means that you can get glamorous and be sophisticated in your own way. If you would like to still wear a tuxedo or formal gown on Evening Chic nights, you absolutely should. All cruises that are 7 nights or longer will feature two Evening Chic nights. Any cruise 6-nights or shorter will feature one Evening Chic night. All other nights of the cruise will feature Smart Casual attire. Celebrity Xpedition will continue to feature casual attire for the entire cruise. Smart Casual attire can be enjoyed every other night of your cruise. Women should feel comfortable wearing: Skirt, pants or jeans with a casual top Men should feel comfortable wearing: Pants or jeans with a short sleeve sport shirt. Note: T-shirts, swimsuits, robes, bare feet, tank tops, baseball caps and pool wear are not allowed in the main restaurant or specialty restaurant at any time. Shorts and flip-flops are not allowed in the evening hours. The dress code will be enforced at all restaurants. And guests are asked to follow the Smart Casual or Evening Chic dress code in the Celebrity Theater for all evening performances. The daily program, delivered to your stateroom and available at the Guest Relations Desk, will be your guide to the correct attire each evening.
Cg52 Posted August 14, 2021 #5 Share Posted August 14, 2021 We’ve always been told no sandals for men and I’ve seen men turned away for wearing them . We’ve also been told no shorts. Our fellas always follow the dress code. But to each his own.
dkjretired Posted August 14, 2021 #6 Share Posted August 14, 2021 (edited) Respectfully disagree, I’ve been sailing Celebrity for over 25 years and seen many turned away for shorts or sandals. They give a little leeway first and last night and special circumstance like not getting luggage but they have always enforced the no shorts and no sandals. I’ve even seen people refused entry in shorts in Bermuda where shorts are like the national dress. Edited August 14, 2021 by dkjretired
Fouremco Posted August 14, 2021 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2021 OP, that's fine for the Oceanview Café if you wish to dine there. 1

retired dude Posted August 14, 2021 #9 Share Posted August 14, 2021 forgive me for asking, and i don't need to be admonished, but i was raised in a home that my parents taught me that wearing a hat inside of a restaurant or similar place was the height of rudeness....Perhaps that has changed??????just asking, as my wife and I try to be respectful of others. 2

As stated I was just on the Edge's 7/24 sailing and on the second Chic night, the MDR Tuscan, they were letting folks in with shorts and a cowboy hat. I did see one other in a baseball cap and lots of T-Shirts that night

I’d personally not wear shorts or sandals in any of the restaurants (other than in Cafe) . But it does not bother me one lick how anyone chooses to dress on board or in any venue. To each their own! Rare markeb Posted August 14, 2021 #13 Share Posted August 14, 2021 (edited) Reading the dress code above. It no longer says anything about sandals, men or women. Flip flops are a no, and I recall some significant arguments on the RC board, and maybe on X, once upon a time as to what was a flip flop. Tipping thread and dress code thread on the same day! Cruising may not be back to normal, but Cruise Critic is getting there! 😀 Edited August 14, 2021 by markeb 1
bEwAbG Posted August 14, 2021 #14 Share Posted August 14, 2021 People who have gotten away with it doesn't mean they're no longer enforcing the dress code. Just means they got past whoever was checking or whoever was checking was not doing their job. The dress code is stated on the website and also posted above. It is rare to see people in shorts at dinner on a Celebrity cruise. Unofficially, you can get away with shorts on the first night because your luggage may have not yet been delivered (often you receive a reminder about the dress code for the rest of the cruise if you do this). Speaking from personal experience. 🖐️On one of our cruise ( before the introduction of evening chic in 2016 ) we were leaving the MDR (SD) (first night of the cruise I was wearing shorts and a golf/polo style shirt ((like I also do the first evening)). I never wear sandals or flip flops, ever.) and the Maitre D pulled us aside and very politely reminded us that the rest of the cruise shorts will not be allowed in the MDR in the evening. The next evening was formal night and we were dressed formally. He had a huge smile on his face as we were walking toward him at the entrance to the MDR. He even escorted us to our table. We always joked and laughed with him each evening.

Agree. Way above my paygrade. I'll leave that aggravation up to the staff at the entrance to the dining venues that don't allow shorts to deal with it. Yeah, the military is the same way. Oceanview Cafe is a hat zone. I will wear a hat (baseball style) inside including the rare times we go to the Oceanview Cafe. One morning we were entering the MDR for breakfast and I was wearing a hat and was asked to remove my hat as we were being seated. No problem. But the woman in front of us was wearing a hat (baseball style) and nothing was said. Hmmm! And my legs were tanner and better looking than hers. 2
