Am I the only one that doesn't care about WiFi?

I think that it is hilarious when I read posts from Luddites who act virtuous because they don't use their phone or iPad or computer while on a cruise.  The pejorative comments about spending half your time glued to your phone just make them look even more silly to me.  Of course no one spends half their time glued to their phone.  Being able to access information doesn't impair my ability to enjoy a cruise.  Shooting a text to a buddy bragging about me being able to enjoy a cruise while he is schlepping at work is good fun and sport. My relationships are good and  important to me and I don't need to cut them off for a week to relax. Sharing the experience with those I love and who love me enhances the experience.  You do you but try to act a little less pretentious.  I pity the person that goes on vacation and nobody cares they're gone.

Those who are only reading emails and printing boarding passes either don't have the knowledge to use a phone to its fullest potential, or just have old technology.  If you are still using Windows 95 on a desk top at home or have a flip phone there is no reason to purchase internet. On the other hand those of us who use it in our daily lives for convenience will use it on the ship combined with the new

on board experience for menus and not having to carry around a piece of paper and a yellow highlighter to track ship activities.   You can't set a reminder  or book a reservation on the paper version of the Compass but you can on your phone.

I won't even order take out from a place that I can't order and pay for from my phone.  Love the Dunkin Donuts App.

When on Serenade, I loved this feature.  Have a specific thing you want to do, add it to your planner on the app and receive a notification 30 minutes before the activity begins.  It was helpful when you are doing unscheduled things that could cause you to lose track of time like the Casino prior to the start of scheduled activities.

Exactly and you don't need to purchase WiFi for that.

Nope.  As I told the OP "you do you".  I find it so funny that some are so judgmental about people using wifi when it literally doesn't impact them at all.

Waving hand here! :classic_biggrin: Some people don't have much in the way of family or friends. And since retirement, our work friends don't care what we are doing. I am hoping (not hoping) that the remaining cat might be gone by April. If that is the case, I will let the squirrels fend for themselves. Otherwise we will have to hire someone to feed them and give the cat his pills.

If we purchased internet for the whole cruise, it would just be a waste. The neighbor will call or text if there is an emergency.

How did people survive a cruise before cellphones ?

I have friends that never owned a cell phone, are avid cruisers and have yet to have a problem.

I don't know anyone who has never owned a cell phone.

Back in the early days of mobile calling a phone was used to make calls. I haven't read any post claiming that they use the phone to make a phone call except from maybe the people who lock them up in the safe. Everyone else is using them as a handheld computer for other utilities.

Are all of these people in their 80's? The world has changed since WWII.  My father who just turned 89 last month has a newer model iPhone than I do. He loves to tell me all about the things he was able to fix watching "The YouTubes". He also likes the preparing recipes using the Food Network app on his iPad.

Not so surprising for me now. When the covid vaccines first came out and people needed to register with the state and check in on a Smartphone or use the provided tablet I was shocked to see that some of these people who had flip phones and never used a tablet were younger than me. I'm 60.  It's getting more and more difficult to function in the world not accepting technology.  People would rather stand in line and wait for the only cashire to ring up their package of Depends or wait on hold for 45 minutes just to ask the pharmacy if their prescription is ready.

My wife and I had Flip phones until 3 years ago .Our children bought us Smart phones .The only time we use our phones is to make and receive calls and texts and an occasional Face Time that we initiate.
