Last time I checked the flow rider was not in the casino.

Now that reply is sarcastic. A least it was funny.

zekekelso you misunderstood. We hate the smell of cigarette smoke, and believe it  to be very unhealthy. The last thing we would want is smoking on the flowrider.

I am certain you completely missed the sarcasm or you have no idea what a flowrider is.

I have seen different  levels of  smoking in the casino  on various cruises.  MANY smokers on the Mariner weekend 3N cruises, but way fewer on the mid week 4 night.  The longer the cruise, the fewer smokers.    I can't really say  smokers are  providing revenue , as often they are just sitting  around smoking.  Seems like potential revenue loss is  fairly low if smoking is discontinued.   In fact, as mentioned, perhaps others would play in the casino if there was no smoking. Then, because of fairly poor signage on many ships, smokers  light up in the non smoking areas.

Who remembers when there was no casino smoking on formal nights?  Goes back quite a few years.

We go to land casinos with no smoking and they are PACKED, so I don't believe the lost revenue story.

I wish RCCL would create some indoor smoking space,  just for smoking, and not use the casino. If I smoked, there is no way I would go outside in the windy air ( you know the hair thing) but would  simply sit in the casino.

I don't blame smokers,  I blame RCCL .

IMO, the smoking, non smoking areas in the casino is ridiculous. You can't escape the stench.

I remember no smoking on formal evenings.

Plenty of business don't provide enclosed/protected smoking areas for the workers or costumers. RC provides fantastic outside smoking areas with some overhead coverage, nice seating, bars, food, hot tubs, pools and great views. Nothing wrong with that. And the non smokers that walk past the smokers in that area coughing and waving their arms around look foolish. Walk on the other side of the ship.

I agree. The smokers using the casino for a smoking lounge is RCs fault for not following Celebrity's lead.  If I was still a smoker I would also use the casino as a place to smoke as it is an authorized smoking area. Complain to RC not me (if I was still a smoker). We aren't gamblers and will not walk thru the casino to get to another venue. We go up and around. But because of the poor ventilation system the smoke stench doesn't stay in the casino, especially in the evenings when the casino is busier.

Once again, the post makes no sense at all. We have been riding for years and own two boards.

Funny, but most of the time "Flowboarding" is spent hours waiting in line. There is already smoking on one  whole side of the ship, it wouldn't be so far fetched for one of the cretins at Royal to start allowing smoking in the line.

As in dying off.

Young people are smoking at very high numbers

65 or older 8.2% smoke.

25 - 44  16.7% smoke and 45 - 64 is 17%

But 18 - 24 is only 6%

The good news is, it is OK to appear in public with a mask.

So pick up some N95 or P100 masks and go to the casino and not breath in the smoke. 😄

Did you try them? I can smell perfume, BO, and a lot of other assorted odors through regular masks.

Great point.  According to the CDC, (if you believe anything they say), in 2019 only 14% of adults in the US smoked.  RCCL makes 86% of us smell the stink while catering to 14%.  Something seems out of whack.

There you go. You are NOT in the United States when you are on an international cruise ship.

And catering to casino guests is a HIGH priority. Do you know that on some cruises, over 25% of the adult passengers are guests of the casino? Think about it.... as you walk down the hall, 1 in 4 doors have passengers that are sailing on free or discounted cruises from Casino Royale or land-based casinos. And they "generate" large revenue for the cruise line.

The cruise line casino is catering to international casino players who "generate" a lot more revenue that US passengers. And more than 14% of the population in targeted international countries are smokers (over 50%).

So, US metrics are not quite valid for the purpose of this analysis.

Ok. I'm gonna stick my neck out here for an actual compromise. How about banning anything that requires an open flame to light on a cruise ship. (candles, cigarettes, cigars, etc.) Its safer for the ship as a side bonus.

Next, Royal can allow the use of vape pens / e-cigs. This will give the smoker their hit of nicotine, and spare the non-smokers of the obnoxious smell and harmful second hand smoke.

Would this solve the problem? I'm not a smoker so I don't know if a real cigarette smoker would revolt to such a compromise. Just thinking out of the box.
