Rare Sunflower & The Scientist Posted November 23, 2021 #102 Share Posted November 23, 2021 I'm still having difficulty wrapping my head around the bathrobes. This reminds me why we typically sail on Viking.
mcrcruiser Posted November 23, 2021 #103 Share Posted November 23, 2021 We wear our masks in stores at home to be safe as possible . Our closest cruise is Dec 3,2022 ,then Dec 10,2022 .These 2 are B2B Mexican riviera on the new Discovery Princess, then 18 night Hawaii on Koningsdam ,April 29,2023 Carnival Panorama Mexico & Nov 4 ,2023 Carnival Panorama Mexico . All the above & future cruises are from Calif ports as we no longer fly We are certainly hoping that before we cruise the pandemic is a thing of the past .By the same token we will never force cruising .Seems to me that it best be healthy & safe vs any risk ;as we are in the highest risk category over 80 & underly medical condition Even Thanksgiving at our daughters will require we wear masks because she has 20 0 25 people coming We missed family holidays last year & we have grand & great grand children

Personally I felt pretty safe on the koningsdam nov 7 -nov 21 even though there were some special snowflakes that don’t think they should have to abide by what they agreed to. I did lay pretty low. I didn’t go to shows after dinner nor get around large groups of people but I was like that pre covid.

Sea42 Posted November 23, 2021 #106 Share Posted November 23, 2021 I would say that on our cruise on the NA last week, mask usage was very good but did slip towards the end of the cruise but not a lot. The exceptions to this were on the tender from Half Moon Caye to the ship. Many were not wearing their masks and crew and staff members onboard did not say anything. The ride over to the island everyone was wearing their masks. The other exception was in BB Kings. Virtually no one who was dancing during the last set of the night was wearing a mask. And it was packed on the dance floor. 1

No, they were very clear in the announcements and at the tender platforms that masks were required.

And you are right about some “very special people” who didn’t feel they needed to wear a mask. Five of them were in the front row of the Neil Diamond show. I can understand if you have a drink and are drinking, but once it is done, wear the mask. On another thread, a passenger who had been vaccinated twice and had the booster had a test for antigens and discovered that he didn’t have any. He is immune compromised. So we need to wear masks to protect vulnerable people who otherwise look healthy. Edited November 24, 2021 by Storylady

No one knows that and I’m not willing to test that theory. Vaccines just aren’t 100 percent.

NCTribeFan Posted November 25, 2021 #113 Share Posted November 25, 2021 I'm just off Eurodam yesterday. That first night, I was in the casino at a slot machine, with a drink, and had removed my mask. After all, people removed them as soon as they were seated anywhere to eat/drink. But I was told I had to keep the mask on between sips. So, that's what I did the rest of the cruise. But you can go to afternoon tea and be seated with strangers, elbow to elbow, and sit there for 30 minutes eating, drinking, and conversing without a mask. That's my only issue with the mask wearing. You have to wear it one place but not another. There was one couple who never were masked while dancing at BB Kings, despite the signs to wear them on the dance floor. For the most part, people wore them indoors. Some wore them outdoors, even while walking the promenade deck. The "chin maskers" appeared to mostly be older men. I saw way too many of those. And, yes, I did see a few people in the outdoor dining area wearing bathrobes. I've seen this much more often on HAL than any other line. They are not swimsuit coverups. They're bathrobes.

esimon Posted November 26, 2021 #118 Share Posted November 26, 2021 I will wear a mask because the rules say so - and it will make sooooo many people feel better (not me as breathing in mask sucks) - I got the vaccine - to get on the ship - and I will have a wonderful cruise in spite of all the things that make no sense 3

Live in Bucks County PA just north of Philly. Go to an athletic club every day for swimming and racquetball. It would not be possible to wear a mask in the pool and nobody wears one for racquetball. Have known most of these folks for years and am confident that they are vaccinated. Took my daughter out for dinner yesterday at a very nice restaurant. Not a mask to be seen except for the employees.
projecthandbag Posted November 26, 2021 #120 Share Posted November 26, 2021 Just off a cruise on the Rotterdam which was awesome. For the life of me I can't understand why there is a mask requirement in the casino, yet, they allow smoking! People were maskless, smoking or vaping and exhaling. The casino is small and has low ceilings. Isn't coronavirus an airborne transmitted virus? Ugggghhh. That being said, it wasn't hard to comply and wear a mask although once in a while I had a brain cramp and forgot when getting up from a meal.

That's a good point about all the layered protocols. Thank you.
