I thought the wrist bands were originally to distinguish between vaxed and unvaxed people. BUT NOW that all people 12 yrs and older MUST BE vaxed (and hopefully 5 and older soon), WHAT IS THE POINT? There are exceptions for very specific cases where an unvaccinated adult could qualify to cruise. Furthermore it can be hard to distinguish between an 11 year old and a 12 year old. Some 10 year olds look 13. Some 13 year olds look 11. The original intent was to have more unvaccinated sailing and that day could come again once certain destinations update their requirements. As much as I dislike the wrist bands, it is nice knowing they allow crew to ensure that only vaccinated are accessing vaccinated venues.

Wouldn't it make far more sense to require the unvaxed including those under 12 to wear the intrusive wrist bands? ( since they are in the minority) and even more so once the age changes to under 5.
ChuckRambo Posted November 10, 2021 #28 Share Posted November 10, 2021 A much better solution would be a neck band with a little metal medallion.

As much as I hate to admit it what they are doing is probably the best solution for what they are trying to accomplish. The wrist bands are a very small annoyance but something I'll gladly accept if it means I can cruise. Rubber bands don't work well for people with large wrists or very small wrists. The cloth works for a larger group of people. At some point maybe the rule will go to 5 and up must be vaccinated. Then there will more very small wrists involved. What they are doing works.

From an FAQ: If vaccination is medically contraindicated because of a disability or pre-existing medical condition; if I am not vaccinated for religious reasons; or if I have recently recovered from COVID-19 and am not now eligible to be vaccinated, who should I contact? Please contact our Access Department at (866) 592-7225 or send an email to special_needs@rccl.com so that our team can guide you on what documents will need to be submitted for consideration. You should contact them as soon as possible and ideally no later than 30 days before your cruise departs. You can also have your local travel agent or International Representative contact us. Should you require it, our fax number is (954) 628-9622. Please note that vaccine accommodated guests must adhere to all health protocols and travel requirements for unvaccinated guests as required by the cruise line and at the local, state and national level. Do you think it would work if the retainer on my wristband was accidentally caught in the door and broken, then the wristband was knotted together so it could be removed in the cabin? They accept the wrist band worn on a lanyard, or somewhere other than the wrist. It has to visible so that crew members can see it. I don't know exactly what is acceptable versus unacceptable. It's the dangling end of the cloth band that I dislike. For my wrist it gets dragged across my dinner plate and lands in my soup as it attached originally by the terminal check in people. I am not opposed to wearing a wrist band, I just want one that doesn't impede me or gets wet and feels gross on my arm. My solution is to make it removable so that it doesn't get wet and by managing the loose ends and tucking them in my watch band they don't dangle in my dinner. I don't know that pulling one from a pocket to show the crew would be accepted but I haven't tried that either. I wonder if for the ships where you can punch a hole in your card if they would accept it being attached to your card? That would work for me. ZoeyVictoria Posted November 10, 2021 #35 Share Posted November 10, 2021 I wouldn’t mind an anklet, or tying it into a loose bow and pinning it to my clothing. I shower twice a day and wash my hands very frequently, so the idea of cloth touching public surfaces and being attached to my wrist for a solid week is not at all appealing.
PhillyFan33579 Posted November 11, 2021 #36 Share Posted November 11, 2021 I have saved all my rubber bracelets and now have white, purple and green ones. On our last cruise they were issuing cloth bracelets, but they let me wear my rubber bracelet of the same color instead.

I think I would bring a small safety pin if I was expecting the cloth ones and have it loose enough to easily slide off and just use the safety pin when needed. There we go. Great idea. (Specifically Symphony if anyone has been on recently). I know in the beginning they were the rubber ones, and then they switched to cloth ones that couldn't be easily removed. Are they still cloth or are they back to rubber? If you wish to upgrade to WOW bands, can that double as your vaccine band or do you need to wear both? Thanks! Rare orville99 Posted November 11, 2021 #39 Share Posted November 11, 2021 On both the 10/10 and 10/17 Allure cruises out of PC. On the 10/10 cruise we had white silicone bands. On the 10/17 cruise we had green silicone bands. On both cruises we saw several people who were wearing the cloth bands. A few of them were a bit on the large size, and I imagine the silicone bands wouldn't fit, but it also looked like they ran out of the silicone bands and switched to cloth ones once they ran out. We are bringing all of our different color silicone bands with us for our 11/21 Harmony cruise just in case.
WindinmySails Posted November 11, 2021 #40 Share Posted November 11, 2021 The cloth ones don't seem very sanitary. I'd rather have a rubber one. I hope that is what they give on Adventure.

3kidsncats Posted November 12, 2021 #45 Share Posted November 12, 2021 I just ordered some adjustable cord locks online. Not a fan of stuff on my wrists, hated wearing both the paper, and then the silicone bands during our two weeks on Adventure. Adjustable locks to the rescue. I can follow the rules and sleep/have a shower sans band.

ZoeyVictoria Posted November 17, 2021 #48 Share Posted November 17, 2021 Just back from five nights on the Mariner, with the blue ribbon wristband. They were handed to us at checkin, so we could control the length. My SO tightened his slightly, placed it partially under his watch, and was able to remove it at night. I left mine at the original length and was able to wear it just below my elbow. It did slide down frequently. Neither of them ever got dragged through food, though they were still exposed to surfaces of chairs, tables, etc. On three nights out of five, I wore dresses with narrow or spaghetti straps and was able to loop it around one of the straps, looking almost like a little corsage and staying completely out of the way. Other than having to fish it out of the clothes hamper one morning, it worked perfectly. There was always somebody standing at the entrance to the casino and the theater on the vaccinated deck, and they had no trouble spotting it.
